Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 1

I think the series might be better-suited to a lengthy premium channel miniseries than a series of feature-length films, but we'll see how they approach it.

The Dark Tower reminds me of Half Life (the game) in how the mythology gets further developed by the sequel(s). Not to insult the first installments mind you.

In a podcast, Howard confirms he won't direct but will be a producer. He didn't say a name in regards to who would direct, though, so I wonder if the search is on...

I believe there is already a director in place? A Swedish guy I think?

Anyway, finally got my hands on the 5th book so starting it tonight.

Cary Fukanaga

Idk whether he is right for this series but he's certainly got the skill.

Nikolaj Arcel has been attached as a director for some time now. But maybe that's been changed

So I finally finished reading all of the Dark Tower series last night. One hell of a ride. Ending surprised me, really wasn't what I was expecting - but once I thought about it a while, it kinda made sense.

I can't imagine how a Dark Tower thread might contain spoilers about the Dark Tower! Seriously, there must be a reasonable time limit on spoilers or none of us would be able to openly discuss any entertainment whatsoever. It's your responsibility to avoid threads that might ruin a piece of unconsumed media for you. At least no one mentioned
Roland is revealed to be Batman!

Is it really so hard to put something like that in spoiler tags or blackout though? I have done when books I have read are being adapted. At least your big reveal was put in as spoilers!

Do you spoiler tag every last detail every single time you discuss a film or novel? Of course you don't. It's entirely impractical. Therefore, some will get through and you will get spoiled sometimes. There's no avoiding it, unless you avoid the internet itself.

The Dark Tower Not Set in Stone...Yet

In a recent Reddit AMA Ron Howard was asked about the status of The Dark Tower movie, and while he did say that work is being done, it turns out that there’s no guarantee that the work will ever actually lead to anything.

Idris Elba Frontrunner To Play Roland Deschain In ‘The Dark Tower’

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital may just have found its linchpin gunslinger for The Dark Tower, the Stephen King novel series set in a world woven with magic and revolving around the gunslinger Roland Deschain. I’m told that Idris Elba has emerged as the frontrunner to play Deschains. He would square off against Matthew McConaughey, who’s in talks to play the villainous Man In Black. Nikolaj Arcel is directing.

I like it.

EDIT: I really like it.

I love Elba, but when I see him he does not invoke Clint Eastwood.

I look forward to racists, who have probably never read a Dark Tower book in their life, boycotting this.

How about us racist who have read the books? :o

Well, then it's okay. :o

But seriously, you just know that some site like The Wrap or something awful will put up a headline saying "Idris Elba Cast as White Stephen King Protagonist!" and the alarms will go off for the racist trolls on social media... they won't need experience with the books, they just need something to b**** about.

I like Elba but casting him would completely change the dynamic between Roland and Susannah/Odetta/Detta...so no.
