One of those villains fit in with the Man in Black's original prophecy from the end of The Gunslinger. The beast that guards the Tower.

King on Dark Tower Movie: It's Likely to Happen

In an interview with Rolling Stone King talked about The Dark Tower movie. Here are some of the things he said:

"It looks to me like it's more likely than not it'll happen at this point. Let's put it that way."

"I think that it's more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it. But I can't say with any certainty. I know that they're trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that's the extent of my knowledge."

King also said he want to write about Jericho Hill:

"I'm never done with The Dark Tower. The thing about The Dark Tower is that those books were never edited, so I look at them as first drafts. And by the time I got to the fifth or sixth book, I'm thinking to myself, 'This is really all one novel.' It drives me crazy. The thing is to try to find the time to rewrite them. There's a missing element – a big battle at a place called Jericho Hill. And that whole thing should be written; I've thought about it several times, and I don't know how to get into it."

"I'd have to go back, read all the material before I could get myself in a frame of mind to do that. So, man, I just don't know. I'm a pretty instinctual writer, and I don’t have any game plan. I’m very unprofessional about that part of it; I can strap myself down in a chair and write every day, but the ideas come when they come. Maybe it will come time to write the Jericho Hill thing one day too."

Elba confirmed as Roland, big fan of Elba, I think he is a great actor, but for me I just don't see him as Roland at all.

Just finished downloading the audio book for the first book...hopefully I can finish it in a week

This is major spoilers for the ending of the last book (VII) so don't read this unless you've finished it :gngl:

I LOVE that Roland is Idris Elba, BUT I guess that now means that my Idea for the films can't happen. See as we know at the end of the last book Roland is transported back to the beginning of the story only this time he has the horn of Eld with him. In my idea this would be where the movie began, Roland 2nd time round with the horn of Eld, that way any differences from the book are slightly justified and we can also potentially get a better ending than the one we got. But again. super happy its Elba

As someone who as read the books a couple of times…who the **** is Tirana?

ugggg, this is just going to get worse I fear.

If Susannah is replaced by a white character in the film (or is played by a white actress) there will be outrage.

The producers would defend it by saying "We've cast Idris Elba in the main role" but with so few black actresses in major franchise films, the outrage would be there. There are plenty of black actresses who would kill for a major role in a potential film franchise as this one. We've only had three: Naomie Harris, Lupita Nyong'o and Zoe Saldana and Nyong'o is playing a CGI character, so I don't know if that counts. Susannah would be good for someone like Meagan Good or Sanaa Lathan.

Hopefully they cast Susannah. If they do it'll probably by Gugu Mbatha Raw.

Now I know why it doesn't ring a bell. lol.

Eh, they already ruined the dynamic between the two by casting Elba.

I have so little hope for this…which really saddens me.

With Idris Elba as Roland, I could easily see Detta's insults directed at Roland to be about how he's friends with Eddie Dean. That's if they cast a white actor as Eddie.

Are you recommending these actresses for the same part? Because I see very little connecting them together other than their skin color. I don't know what the producer's intent is in casting that particular role, but if they're targeting a black actress I would certainly hope they give it to an unknown.

For the precise reason you've brought up in how few roles there are for black women, it's equally as off-putting to see the same crop of black women in these parts. Which in its own way is still casting out equal talent.

They haven't even started yet, and they have already started ruining this. I like both Elba and Abby Lee. She was my favorite wife from Fury Road. But both shouldn't be here. The Gunslinger is near perfect. There is not one reason to change it, or any of the first three books. They play out beautifuly. WTH?

Could be an expansion of the taheen that was mentioned in The Gunslinger. Maybe she'll be haunting the ruins around one of the speaking rings.

So it's official that Elba is Roland? I think he's a good pick and he'll do a hell of a job. I'm really hoping to see Aaron Paul as Eddie Dean.

Why would this no longer be valid? It's still a valid idea to me, this is just the depiction of Roland in this version of the story.

I always pictured Roland as a generic white man, but I'm excited about Idris Elba as Roland. Also, I couldn't give two ****s about the dynamics between Detta and Roland. It was never that big of a deal.

I don't really care too much about Elba playing him either. The man is a phenomenal actor but when the character you create is literally based off of the look of Clint Eastwood, I understand some protest. As for Detta and Roland, I'm sure they can easily swing through the remarks she keeps making, especially when Eddie will be there.

I just finished the final book and I should have took King's warning by not reading the Coda. I guess I need some time to process it but my first thoughts is that I'm not a fan of the end of Roland's story.
