Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer

I don't think there is a way to adapt IT without watering it down like the mini series.

I think it is something that could be adapted very well but it depends on the medium.

If it was done as a proper tv mini , say 3-4 2 hour blocks, you could possible get it right. Especially if it was done with HBO or showtime.

As a feature..no you wont get it 100% but I don't think you can miss the mark as much as the original t.v. mini did.

I really adore IT the miniseries, but part of what held it back was that it was a miniseries (It went pretty damn far though, Part 2 is just a disappointment).

IT could very well work as a 2 and half hour horror film, but they need a fantastic writer to do it. Not sure about the guy who penned "The Invasion" which I've heard was pretty horrid.

Yeah the invasion was really bad....the only good thing was Kidmans rack

The only problem with the Original was the second half. Which I am still to this day blown away by. How is that the the Children completely out acted the adults. Every single actor in the second half was horrible!

HAHAHAHA...Pennyworth....haha...I can't believe I typed that. Sorry, Pennywise is what I meant.

On the issue of "IT", what I wouldn't mind seeing is a two part movie. You have the 'kid' story play out the first film, then move into the adult part for the sequal/continuation.

The 'kid' part of the movie and the book always was more interesting than the adult parts. It's like "how did these adults get so boring over the years? Each guy got screwed by the one chick in the group and yet all these guys seem bored as hell as adults? and why didn't the chick become a prostitute?"

You're gonna lose A LOT of the book in a 2 and a half hour movie. The miniseries was decent, but it suffered because of the need to be network friendly. I think the book's adaptation would be best suited for Showtime or HBO, where a miniseries would be uninhibited by the censorship of violence, language and sex.

I don't think, though, that even SHO or HBO would allow the book's climactic sex romp between the children to be shown.

Now this is a remake I can get behind! It is probably King's darkest book, and that's not even including the kiddy gang bang. There's a lot in there to cover so I'm going to be a lil worried how they fit it in... but I'll remain hopeful.

Only two things I don't want to see from the book, and they both involve that little psycho kid, Patrick Hockstetter. I don't want to see him suffocating his little baby brother in his crib, and I don't want to see him torturing animals and leaving them to die in that refrigerator in the dump. Hating reading those scenes.

Stephen King goes a little too far sometimes in the details.

To say the least, lol. A lil girl getting creampied about 5 times is FAR too far

I have lots of other examples - I've read all his stuff - but what's the point in mentioning them when you have kiddy porn as prep time? :hehe:

I read the book, but while the story of the youngsters who had to deal with a devilish clown is interesting, I don't find their adult stories to be equally entertaining. Maybe that is because the clown turns out to be a
giant spider from outer space.
I also saw the miniseries (with the late John Ritter as part of the cast), and it didn't really improve upon the novel much except for Curry's Pennywise the Clown. I do wonder if they will have that scene where that little girl make out with all 5 of her male friends?

Stephen King novels don't translate perfectly to the big screen.

Why not split it up into two movies?
IT Part I: The Younglings
IT Part II: The Oldlings

I'm surprised it took them this long to remake it. Honestly, King is a bit over rated, as is this movie. But alot of that comes down to basic Coulrophobia (Fear of Clowns).

Lol,flying giant turtles in space. Hmm,what other stuff from the book is deemable as silly??? OMG,I just thought of something that could be one of the most disturbing moments in a movie meant for theaters. Sex+It as a clown=WTF?? Of course this scene would be filmable if it was a female well doing the screwing with whatever dude it appears and sounds to be. And just when I thought mutated guys from The Hills Have Eyes movies raping a female and sucking on a breast was disturbing.

The sex scene in the book involves all the male characters having sex with the one female character, as kids, in order to find their way out of the dark sewers. It's ridiculous.

imo the Old side of the book is a let down. The young side is like Stand by Me with crazy **** going on.

Same went for the mini series, the young side was great, the old side was boring and stupid. I don't think I could watch an entire movie of the oldlings.

True about his horror-stories, most of the time. But his non-horror stories usually have been translated well.

As for a remake of It I am a little bit sceptical if you can make a decent movie for the big screen out of a novel this size, unless (as some suggested) you split it up in two. Hey, if Warner can do it with the last Harry Potter-novel, why not It? But I doubt they will.

Personally I wouldn't mind a new version of The Langoliers for the big screen. It's not as long a story, and the mini-series really suffered from some horrible CGI

can't wait for this. the mini-series scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Misery did.

Misery was awesome, but they left alot of stuff out of the book. Most notably how cruel Annie was, cutting off his foot with an axe, and then his thumb with an electric knife and putting it on a birthday cake!!! And killing that Cop with her lawnboy tractor, and then the whole disposing of the body, while she left Paul in her basement overnight with the rats.

They also added in characters in the movie. Paul's literary agent. Buster, the town Sheriff, and his wife, and showing the whol search for Paul Sheldon in the outside world. There was also no dinner scene in the book where Paul tried to drug Annie's wine with all the powder from the pills he'd been hoarding.

The book also had huge excerpts from the new Misery novel Paul was writing for Annie.

What is the logic behind that?
