Steven Spielberg has chosen to next direct War Horse. DreamWorks Pictures acquired the rights to Michael Morpurgo's World War I novel of the same name in December.

Scholastic describes the title as follows:

In 1914, Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey´s courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind. Will he ever see his true master again?

The studio has set an August 10, 2011 release for the film.

Seems like an oldschool type Spielberg project.

Not sure what to think of this one.

Where's the Lincoln biopic? Where's Interstellar?

I'm not getting excited about any film Spielberg is linked to anymore until one of these is made.

i think this will be more in lines of Empire in the Sun. Sans a young Christian Bale.

this looks like a fantastic project for the Beard( he he )

Seriously, what's the story with Lincoln? Hasnt it been in the works for, like, 6+ years?

he'd make a fine horse me thinks... jk jk, anway yeah, am i the only one who gets a strong, cheesy vibe to this? it sounds like the kind of story thats overly sentimental to the point of inducing diabetes.

Which I hope means he's going back to his old school film making...we have enough cynics in the world...we don't need more. :)

Nice pic, and a pretty good article too. I hope there's more pics coming soon.

Love the pics, I'm just thrilled that we'll be getting two films by Spielberg this year.

looks like some new classic Spielberg shots. they guy knows how to make a movie.

The plot doesn't sound that appealing, but it could be good. Or it could go horribly.

But the cast is good. Cumbernatch is in it and looks good as a military man.

So will there be a voice narrator, so we know what the horse is thinking like in Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron?

Are you people fricking kidding me? This sounds amazing. We need more great Homeward Bound style films, and Spielberg helming just makes it ten million times better.

I wasnt very interested at first, but this pics are just lovely.

Oh yeah? With me, I get interested in a film becuase of the story details they release before they let you see any images. That's what they usually do in the marketing, make sure they see that the audience have a definite interest, and then release images later on down the line, cause like many things in life, that is what can seal or break the deal on whether it feels like a mvoie you'd want to go see.
