Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One" - Part 1

Watched this recently and enjoyed it so much. Tons of fun. Really felt like Spielberg back to his form for me  So many Easter eggs and references that will require multiple watches to catch them all. Will be pausing it a lot haha.

This should’ve been a bigger hit. I think many will discover it on bluray and streaming.

I saw it a week or two ago and it was nice. Something I'll get on Blu-Ray when it's discounted.

In all fairness, it's been Spielberg's biggest commercial hit for years. For a film that is a) genre specific and b) a 'target' audience build, financially it's done really well.

Yeah, this has done pretty well for a non-sequel, non-franchise film. It might have done a little better domestically had A Quiet Place not been in the way but it still did alright worldwide.

i loved this so much, regret not seeing it in cinemas tbh

Same man I loved this one and it sucks I never got around to having a theater experience with it. But this is def a favorite of mine from Spielberg that I will watch many many times more.

Had to get it.

This was a good but not great movie. If you’re an 80s or 90s kid I think you’ll enjoy it more because of the references.

The actors were all enjoyable. While I had doubts about Rylance, he gave a surprisingly touching performance. But Ben Mendelssohn isn’t allowed to play a villain again for a long time.

Well that too, but nobody cares about that Robin Hood movie. :o

Mendelsohn is pretty much the '10s equivalent to what Gary Oldman was in the '90s. Even though he's not on Oldman's level, he's the go-to guy for villains these days. He actually seems to be a pretty funny and affable guy in interviews, so I think he'd do fine playing a good guy for a change.

I wish Mendelsohn wasn’t the go to guy for bad guys, because he doesn’t vary it up at all and it gets old fast. His characters in The Dark Knight Rises and Ready Player One are like the exact same person.

King George in Darkest Hour is like the only thing I’ve seen him do that shows any range.

He was excellent in The Place Beyond the Pines. Not exactly a good guy or a bad guy. Just some desperate guy.

And playing the villain in every big movie, he's actually the equivalent of another actor who played a Robin Hood villain, Mark Strong!

Yeah, but I feel like Strong's villainous characters have more range. Like, his villain in Kick-Ass was nothing like his villains in Robin Hood or Sunshine. I like Mendelsohn but I agree that he needs to lay off the villain roles for while. Though I did really like him in Rogue One. He was underwhelming in RPO though.

Someone else suggested this, but Strong, Christoph Waltz, and Mendelssohn need to do a movie where they play 3 retired villains who team up for one last scheme.

I'd rather see one where they're all the good guys, lol.
