I like Ethan Hawke as well. But I like what they did with the scene when Quaid finds out who he really is.
Extended Cut spoilers:
Ethan Hawke is the original Hauser.
Melina is Matthias's daughter
It was all a dream. At the end, Farrell looks at his arm to see that his peace sign tattoo is missing.
I'm sure I'm of the unpopular opinion on this...but I thought the movie was a fantastic sci-fi action flick.
Just got round to seeing this recently. I really enjoyed it, I have to say. Although it pays certain homages to the original (large elements of the storyline, some of the lines, the fat lady at the body scanner and so on), it's still very much it's own film. I like the whole concept of the Fall, the removal of Mars from the storyline, and the general look of the future which the filmmakers created. There's plenty of action and I felt that all the leads did a great job - Farrell in particular was in great form as Quaid/Hauser, and very charismatic - he's one of those actors who is hard to draw your eyes away from when he's on screen.
I had a few small gripes with the film but nothing serious - it's a solid 8/10 at least for me.

The Steelbook from Wal-Mart is fantastic! I'm so glad they used the first poster with Colin posing as the cover!
Overall, the theatrical cut is better than the Director's Cut since all the added stuff was pointless and, but Ethan Hawke's cameo was cool.the story works better that everything was real instead of a dream which was a total buzzkill
And if you buy the movie at Target, you get an exclusive bonus DVD with two 20 minute featurettes:
You liked the theatrical cut more?
The 3 breasted woman seemed out of place in this remake version since it doesn't place on Mars but I'm glad they kept that aspect from the original.
Yeah, which is rare because I usually prefer Director's Cuts. Another problem I had with the twist reveal is thateverything being a dream makes the opening scene pointless!
I just dont know where to begin with this remake. The action was dull and boring. They took scenes from the original and put new actors in them and new locations but same subtext and just added colin running in between those scenes. The overall reveal as to why he memory was changed was beyond stupid and then they have the resistance but what were they resistancing? I mean what was this cohaagan doing that was so terrible, from what I saw doug's living and working conditions werent down right depressing. Also you just have to love that it takes 17 minutes to get through the planet core to the colony and in the beginning of the movie it took 5 seconds but when they need a big action set piece it seems to take 3 days to get there. Also this movie took itself way too serious.
By comparing it to the original, it sounds like you were looking for things to dislike. The action was dull and boring? That was one of the best parts of the film. I've said it before and I will say it again, had the original never been made, people would have loved this film.
I'm surprised. How is it pointless? It was the same idea that they used in the original.
