Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One" - Part 1

The only rewatchable part is the Shining scene.

I thought the action scenes were chaotic and poorly choreographed.

Ready Player One was otherwise very meticulously conceived and rendered but the action scenes leave a lot to be desired. Berg could have done a lot better in this department.

I agree I have the 4K version of the movie and I replayed that scene on my 4K set and just blows me away that and the final fight between IOI and the rest of the good guys

What?

The action scenes were easily the best aspect of the film. Spielberg is blocking those scenes with more energy, creativity and verve than almost anybody else operating at the same level right now.

This film in 60 seconds had a more exciting and fun Mecha/Robot fight than Bay or anybody has been able to film across 5 films

Poorly choreographed is perhaps a strong choice of words since I can't deny the effort that went into making it but it all felt too random to me. I think my issue comes from not seeing an action set piece that I found to be memorable. I still remember bits and pieces from the 3rd mission but I thought they were pedestrian in execution compared to some other other movies.

But of course, I hafta tell you guys that my proclivities with regards to action scenes won't match what y'all prefer. I vastly prefer Bayformers and Pacific Rim: Uprising's action to RPO.

I simply wouldn't have had people running around in the streets with the VR headsets since that likely would mean certain death.

I have to say, I didn't really like Ready Player One. Feels that I should love all of it, because it has so much stuff I'm into, but the movie just seems shallow. It has too much of: "Hey recognize this from your favorite game/movie?! Isn't that awesome?! You have to love this movie!" I know it's part of the story, but it feels cheap to me.

Also, I didn't care for the main character. He was kind of unlikeable to me. Like I thought it was weird when
his aunt was killed
and he barely reacted to it... actually, almost the first thing he did after that happened, was flirting with a girl and being glad that she was cute in real life. I didn't even get the impression he was traumatized or in shock, he was just checking her out...

That was just one scene, but there were a lot more that bothered me

I didn't gush over this movie in the same way many did. Like, I thought it was very fun and enjoyable, but it wasn't a top 10 movie of 2018 from me or anything. This is just pretty much a fun movie. No more, no less.

Yeah, I liked it, it was enjoyable but it wasn't some great movie, nor was it the disaster trash some people made it out to be.

I felt like the movie lacked the heart that the book had. It shoehorned in a pointless YA trope (we are the resistance), replaced the 80's nostalgia for the 90's which would have worked if the filmmakers had spent enough time developing it, and used overly exaggerated video game style to cover up for iffy CGI
It was far from the worst movie I've seen. It wasn't even the worst movie aimed at its target audience. It was just so so.

I was sure Kline said he wasn't doing a sequel. Ah well.

I thought I heard rumors of a sequel around the time the RPO movie came out. I have to admit, as much as I enjoyed the first book there was a lot that the film improved upon, which Cline also co-wrote. Maybe he'll have some big ideas for the sequel.

I’ll be honest, this one was pretty forgettable for me. Not bad, so I’m sure I could be roped into watching a sequel if the trailer does it for me, but... just kinda meh.

It's a book sequel.

I'm reading his other one called Armada and apparently WB is prepping that one for the next adaptation.

The book is good so I'm glad to hear this.

Watched the movie a couple of days ago and I hafta say that it has aged very well. I like it even more nao I did before. The 3rd act fight is just so awesome. Parzivsl & Art3mis in DeLorean vs The Sixers, f**king Chucky lmao was great. The little kids as the TMNT and suits with the HALO avatars was cool to see too. The best was saved for the last with the main event of Iron Giant & Gundam vs Mechagodzilla. That was so epic.

A sequel to the movie is very likely based on the Chinese receipts alone. The sequel will make serious bank over there.
