Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One"

Hey, at least it's relevant with younger generations being sold their parents' nostalgia.

Nostalgia without nuance.
Spectacle without substance.
Spielberg is starting to fall off I'm afraid.

Starting to fall off? lol. Spielberg fell off a long time ago and this is the most old-school Spielbergian movie he's done in ages.

Guess I have been giving him the benefit of the doubt and thinking when he gets done with the period dramas and such, he'll be back to his old self. And that's the concern because he went right into his wheel house for this one. Classic Spielberg stuff and it was dull and drab and sadly routine.

I'm not sure Spielberg ever fell that far for me. He's not making a new Schindler's List every year but Bridge of Spies, Lincoln, War Horse, Tintin, Munich etc. are all solid films.

Spielberg never fell off. He just concentrated his effort into his non-blockbuster films like Munich, Lincoln, Bridge of Spies, The Post, etc.

Agree. D-Box makes every experience better and the D-Box didn't disappoint (like The Force Awakens did).

The race scene alone is worth the price for D-Box. That sh** was wild.

Yea the 3D doesn't add much if anything. It doesn't pop even within the Oasis.

I don't expect him to ever make another Raiders, Ryan or ET. To expect Schindler's List just feels really unfair. But even with him not being "that guy", I find it really odd the idea that he fell off a cliff in some way. His output has been well over average these last two decades imo.

just saw it and it was a damn fun movie only real criticism is wade watts was little bland as a character

He's supposed to be the every nerd.

Dont get me wrong, Spielberg at 75% of his capabilities is still better than 90% of the directors working. But it's still a 75% level. Gotta start lowering my expectations with the guy.

Spielberg reached transcendent level a long time ago to the point where he made so many consecutive classics at this point it's unfair to be relative. The man never fell off. He's just made different films and grown and they're great in their own right. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the old Spielberg here which gives me so much delight the more it sinks in. Turns out despite being older, he can still tap into that wonder we all loved him for, yet he executed them by means of being the more grown filmmaker post Schindler's List which is fascinating.

Did he even shoot the movie in 3D?

That's my issue. Hardly anyone is even shooting in 3D anymore at this point. It's a dead gimmick.

Right there with you.

Well Said.

Finally watched it

Pros: action and visual. Spielberg is the king of action sequences so not a surprise. This movie is visually stunning as well.

Cons: the third act is weak, the story is not well fleshed out, and I don't really care for the characters.

6.5/10

I enjoyed it - was a good, entertaining flick with ample special effects and more than enough cameo scenes; from Jurassic Park's Rex, to Kong, to Ninja Turtles, to Batman, to Chucky, to Jason Voorhees, to Freddy Krueger, to Godzilla... I'm sure there were countless more, but I can't think of them.

I did think the plot was a little thin, and that the characters could have done with a little more fleshing out, but I wont hold that against them. I also ... related(?) to the concept; it's a real-world thing that I can see being very likely within the next decade.

As much as I did enjoy this, I kinda hope there's no sequel. Not really sure where you'd go, and for what reason.

I think the excerpt from this one review explains my sentiment perfectly about this film

"Ready Player One is an enjoyable film, but you may find yourself being distracted more than you're being invested."

enjoyed the movie quite a bit need to see it with the ability to pause cause I'm sure I missed a few characters was surprised at T.J. Miller being in this his character was dope [to use a little 90s slang] lol
