Steven Spielberg's ''Terra Nova''

I had to choose between watching a Walking Dead marathon or this week's episode and I chose The Walking Dead. I will watch next week's episode though as I still like the show.

The oldest daughter, i find really pretty, but what a terrible actress!

The mother is blaaahhhhh, so bland and boring..........

The main guy........... boring and uninteresting, no depth in his acting

The son....... don't even get me started on him..........

The last episode was boring

If this show sucks so much and hate everyone on it, why bother watching it? ;)

I do not find this show too bad. I always give a show 1 season as a lot of shows just suck the first season, it is not often you hit a grand slam (like with Lost). Not that I am a super Star Trek Fan but the first season on TNG was Horrible (imo).

Terra Nova is on break next week

Terra Nova(though not my fav show by any means) shouldn't be compared to a cable serial, such as Walking Dead. I mean come on guys. On the basic level of story momentum TN probably has about 20 eps to go though and most of them have to be bland enough to invite new and random viewership. Whereas a cable drama has probably 13 episodes of continuity heavy adult geared plotting.

Why compare the two? At least compare TN to a good show on basic cable.

besides I happen to find the eldest daughter smoking hot.

I don't think anyone has compared the shows. I just said I had to choose between the two and I went with the Walking Dead as I never had the opportunity before to watch it but I still want to see the episode next week (or the following week) of Terra Nova.

I actually like Terra Nova and will have to find a place to watch it online for Monday's episode.

I still haven't made it past the pilot episode... :p

Everytime I try to watch it streaming on FOX, it craps out on it..I'll have to find other means.

Ugh. I hate it when bagging on something I like becomes 'cool.' Is there a better genre show on network TV at this point?

Sci-fi, fantasy, superhero, anything that's not "real life." LOST, Spartacus, Battlestar Galactica, Walking Dead, Terra Nova, Fast Forward, The Event; all "genre shows" in the current Hollywood talking head coinage.

If you hate the show, don't watch, and don't post in here.

I'm trying to give it a chance, myself. I liked the pilot enough, though I'm still seeing if I like it as an ongoing series. And I'm really hoping they figure out some way around the fact that humanity recolonizing Earth in the distance past creates a pretty incredible paradox.

With those examples, I find The Walking Dead, Battlestar, and even (some of) Lost to be far more entertaining than Terra Nova. That being said, I will continue to watch it as some shows get better after the pilot.

Agree, wholeheartedly. It is possible to make really good genre series.

It seems like the key is finding someone to helm the project that has a respect for the material instead of approaching it as strictly a business venture.

I don't see the article's point. There's tons of good genre TV out there. It really just isn't on networks anymore. Also most good TV isn't on the networks anymore either.

Network television has to appeal to a very broad audience to gather any steam which usually means playing towards the lowest common denominator as it will be the largest statistical market. Cable programs have the luxury of having an audience that chooses their network over others.

Fringe... TN needs a kick in the balls, that's what it needs. It's got all the right pieces there, but whoever puts the show together is failing badly. Things IMO that would help this show:
1)far less focus on the family aspect, keep it, but as background narrative only.
2)a little more realism as far as the military personel are concerned. Taylor and Wash bother me, him for being ragtag, when everyone of the background/extras is clean and shavenheaded. Wash for being the token hot chick in the tough guy role.
2b) a little more realism from the general population. They all look like they are living in a retirement village, with all the amenities of a 5 star resort. For example: the guy with no legs. It's too much utopia, and too little conflict within the colony.
3)get on with the plot. This is important to me. Nothing in the show has really grabbed me and got me interested in seeing where this show will go. And I zone out on the single serving stuff that won't last the 40 minutes of episode.

and to those spewing the old 'don't like-don't watch' nonsense: take a hike. People who complain are those that like what this show could be. They want it to be better than it is. This show could be good, but right now it is far from that. It's among the weaker genre shows I've watched lately, maybe the weakest I've chosen to watch in a long time, and that's only because of the lack of available choice right now. Listing it with shows like BSG, Lost and Spartacus just doesn't fit, because TN barely compares to any of those shows in storytelling quality.

If you don't like the show, you should watch anyway because it could be better? Why not just watch other shows? I am of the mind that if you don't care for a particular form of visual entertainment, remove it from in front of your eyes. Why would anyone do different?

If a show could be better, but isn't. Then it probably couldn't be better, unless it was made by someone else.

because I think the show has potential, but that it's is wasting it's potential right now, and burning up its future, if it doesn't get better fast. That's why. I think anybody has a right to watch a show and complain about it if they don't agree with it's level of quality, without being told to stop watching, hence why I took a potshot in my previous post. "If you don't like the negative feedback this show is getting on SHH, why don't you leave?". That's the same kind of annoying statement. It's a discussion thread, not a 'praise this show' thread, that's what we are all here for. I'd say a majority of the people in this thread have critique of the series that is unfavorable... hardly scientific, but it's clear that the show is not performing to our expectations.

Where are your expectations coming from? I don't know of any other show that has been on in the last few years that even remotely resembles this show.
