Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist thread

Music to my ears bro. :hmr:

So what is up with Street Fighter: World Warrior now?
Ever since we finished Assassin’s Fist, that’s been full time. I moved to Los Angeles for four months and pitched all around town, literally to every major studio in Hollywood and there was huge interest and amazement at what we have achieved on such humble resources. So although I’m not ready to make any formal announcement, yeah, it has been full time to get World Warrior going. I will say that the plan is to do this next series on a whole different scale. The biggest scale possible, premium US TV. So we’re talking hour-long episodes, ten episodes, a minimum of ten to thirteen episodes per season, with potentially a huge studio-sized budget, you know? That’s the plan and hopefully we’ll be able to make an announcement in the next month or two about when people might be able to see that. I’m very excited about that.

Oh hell yeah, I can definitely get behind the idea of 13 1 hour long Street Fighter episodes on a budget akin to Game of Thrones or something

Picked up Assassin's Fist and hopefully I can get to it soon.

Can't wait for World Warrior. Is it officially green lit or is everything speculation?

Ten one hour eps...that would be perfect...

Would Netflix seriously consider becoming a co-producer for this? Ideally that's what I'd like to see.

Look, nothing against Machinima, but if we could really blow up the scale of this and get a Netflix Street Fighter show, that would be outstanding. I don't want to get my hopes up too much though.

I just think Ansah nailed the style on how you can make this storyline work in an episodic format and make it like a cool live-action martial arts series.

Now I mean, was it perfect? No. But I mean, give it a little more money for the visual FX to make them look a little better, and this could be really special.

If World Warrior is a hit just like Season 1 was then I'd like to see Ansah get a shot at a feature length. He did mention a while back that he had discussions with Capcom and Universal about it.

Street Fighter V’ to Get Live-Action Miniseries Tie-In Via Machinima http://bit.ly/1jMytzK

A live-action miniseries adaptation of video game “Street Fighter” is coming from its publisher, Capcom, and Machinima titled “Street Fighter: Resurrection.”

The series, which run five episodes on Verizon’s go90 app beginning in March, will tie into the hotly anticipated next release of the game franchise, “Street Fighter V.”

“Street Fighter: Resurrections” will follow a character who has returned from the dead in the game, Charlie Nash.
The story is set 10 years after the events in previous Machinima series “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.” Alan Mousi will play Charlie and Mike Moh and Christian Howard are reprising their roles as Ryu and Ken respectively. Mousi’s Nash is targeting legendary “Street Fighter” champions for unknown reasons and Ryu and Ken are determined to find out why.
Capcom and Machinma’s partnership has proved fruitful in the past. “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” managed to pull in over 17 million views in aggregate across the 12 episodes of the series’ run. Although shorter, “Street Fighter: Resurrection” stands to do just as well with the returning inclusion of series icons Ken and Ryu, the fan favorite Charlie Nash, and the fact that this series is a tie-in to the popular fighting game rather than just being a standalone using the same characters.
“Street Fighter V” releases Feb. 16 on PS4 and PC and “Street Fighter: Resurrection” follows it in March.

Dear SFAF fans. Street Fighter: Resurrection is a highly ambitious, action packed, live-action mini series which serves as a narrative prologue to the events of SFV. With the new game coming out and interest from both Machinima and Capcom for me to make a tie in, I couldn't pass up such an exciting prospect to leap forward a decade after the events of Assassin's Fist and write and direct a very contemporary part of the SF mythos. Featuring old faithful characters and brand new ones. The same level of detail and authenticity has gone into SFR as it has SFAF. I want to also address the subject of STREET FIGHTER: WORLD WARRIOR. Your passion and demand for seeing the direct narrative follow up to SFAF is understandable and heart warming. I spent most of this year completing detailed story development and structure for World Warrior. To pull together a production of that huge scale takes time. So rest assured SFWW is still coming! and to fill the gap until it is ready, you have SFR to look forward to. Trust me it will Shun Goku Satsu your senses. ~ Joey Ansah

Good to know World Warrior isn't at the back of their minds and we'll be getting it probably by end of next year.

But it will be a bit weird seeing the Ryu and Ken of Assassin's Fist turn into who we know they become in the future without actually seeing events like World Warrior.

Anyone watched the first episode of Street Fighter Ressurrection yet?

Anyone watched the first episode of Street Fighter Ressurrection yet?

I have. I enjoyed it mostly. My biggest gripes are that it was too short (about 8 minutes long) and a little exposition heavy. But I get the latter, seeing as we're picking up from AF like a decade later with new characters and a ton of history to cover. Still a bit grating though.

I don't know if Alain Moussi is actually voicing Charlie, but it sounds a bit unnatural to me. Maybe that's the point and maybe I'll adjust later, but it threw me off a bit.

Christian Howard doesn't seem as settled into this more mature iteration of Ken just yet, but the potential is definitely there.

I'd have to go back and take a look at AF, but Mike Moh looks better as Ryu to me this time around.

Action bits were well done, but they haven't gone full Street Fighter with them yet. Just teases.

All in all, the first episode had a big task on its hands with introducing a lot of new stuff with a deep existing history. Based on that alone, you can forgive some of the flaws which on their own are pretty minor anyway. Hate how short the episode was, but at least it's not a bunch of opening/closing credits like we saw with MK: Legacy. I'm definitely still very invested and excited.

I went to Machinima to watch it and found out it was only available on the go90 app. What a nasty surprise, I'm pretty sure they never mentioned that prior to release.

Yeah I don't recall that in early announcements either. Too bad.

They did, it just wasn't all in your face and somewhat subtle.

By the way, check this out:

Another interview:

our FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS answered below:
1) WHAT IS 'STREET FIGHTER: RESURRECTION'? :
SFR is a 4part mini-series. Officially licensed by Capcom, it is produced by the team behind 'Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist' in association with Machinima.

2) HOW CAN WE VIEW IT?:
Machinima will be debuting the series in America on Verizon's Go90 app March 15. 1 episode will drop per week. You do NOT have to be a Verizon subscriber to download and use the app for free from the Apple App store or Google Play store. Anyone with a tablet or Smart Phone in the United States can acquire the app and view the show.

3) WHAT IF WE LIVE OUTSIDE THE USA??:
We believe Machinima are currently working on an International distribution strategy for the series. As soon as we hear any official news we'll be sure to let you all know ASAP!!! We don't want any of our international fans to miss the show!

4) IS SFR A DIRECT SEQUEL TO SFAF? :
No! SFR is set within the same cinematic universe as SFAF but is set a decade or more after the events of SFAF. It covers narratively some of the events occurring after the SFIV game series and leading into the events of SFV. As with SFAF, the script has been developed to follow the true canon of the SF story first and foremost while creating broader narrative around it, which will tie into the events of SFAF and the upcoming SF:World Warrior. Joey consulted closely with Capcom last year to gain insight into the as of yet unreleased canon story details of SFV. Until Capcom releases the cinematic story mode for SFV in June, this series will give you some expanded knowledge on the canon, story and motives of some of your favourite fighters in SFV.

5) IS THIS HAPPENING INSTEAD OF WORLD WARRIOR!?
No! World Warrior has been in development ever since SFAF was finished. The plan for World Warrior is to be a high budget premium US Cable TV show, with hour long episodes and a budget that this story line truly needs and deserves to be told properly. Understand that the World Warrior story line Joey Ansah has been developing for a multi season arc will cover the remaining relevant events of the SF Alpha series, SF 1, and SF2 game series. What is planned for SFWW is on a bigger & more difficult to pull of scale than you can imagine. Please be patient, every effort and sacrifice has been, and continues to be made by Joey Ansah and Producers Jacqueline Quella and Mark Wooding to make World Warrior happen in the biggest most epic way possible.

6) SO HOW DID RESURRECTION COME ABOUT? DID CAPCOM ASK YOU TO MAKE IT?:
The SFAF team maintained the rights to make an online sequel to SFAF, which Capcom wanted used. There was interest in another webseries being released close to the launch of SFV. As explained above the direct sequel for SFAF will be a TV/CABLE series so there was no way World Warrior was going to be done as an online series. Therefore Joey Ansah had to choose what story he was willing to write, direct, shoot and post produce in a 6month period. All considered it made sense to leap way down the timeline and explore the canonical events leading upto the events of SFV. The return of and the new nature of SFV Charlie Nash in particular is an extremely enigmatic story point, one Joey was seriously interested in Tackling. Machinima were also very interested in working with the SFAF team to do something else in the SF universe after the success of SFAF on their channel. Machinima acted quickly and were able to finance and greelight the series into production without delay.

7) WE LOVED SFAF, IT'S LOOK, FEEL AND FAITHFULNESS TO THE CANON.....THIS LOOKS PRETTY DIFFERENT...ARE FANS OF THE ORIGINAL GONNA DIG THIS??:
SFAF was a period piece set between the 50's and the late 80's. As a result the look and feel of it was designed to tap into that romanticised, nostalgic feel of the good ol' days! SFR looks and feels different because it is contemporary and urban. This may be initially jarring when compared to SFAF upon first glimpse, but we guarantee you'll slip straight into this new timeline with ease when you start watching the series. As with the SFAF trailer we have held back the best for the series. The same amount of love and detail has gone into every aspect of production in SFR as with SFAF. In some areas we believe we have raised the bar from what came before. This series further expands the SF cinematic universe and will bring you closer to characters like Charlie Nash, Decapre and Laura than ever before, while further enhancing your existing relationship with Ryu and Ken.

I've not seen Resurrection yet but I hear some decent things. Now the creators need to get back to doing Season 2 aka World Warrior Tournament.

Just finished watching episode 2 and while not a lot happens, enough happens to move the story forward

The questions this episode raises is

1) Can Charlie Nash be trusted?

2) Did Laura make the right decision following Charlie on his mission?

2) Is this even the real Charlie?

3) Is Shadaloo alive and what do they want?

4) Who is the "doll" at the end?

For 9 minutes it does a good job of advancing things forward at a relatively steady pace and maximizing the time limit that it has along with a pretty solid action scene with Ken, Ryu, and Charlie.

Nonetheless I hope this does fairly well so we can see World Warriors on Television.

Joey Ansah on the status of WW on Facebook:

Hi SFAF fans, Joey here. It has been a long time since the last update on this page and figured it was a good time to update our fanbase on the status of SFWW or any follow up to SFAF:

As you may all remember, SFAF was made on an extremely tight budget of $2.5million and a lot of personal financial investment and deferment from all the key cast and crew. All the money went on the screen and not in our pockets to give the best possible product. Making it this way allowed me to maintain full creative control (which is a rarity in movie making). The streamlined story largely set in the Japanese wilderness of Ryu, Ken, Gouken, Akuma etc allowed us to create a high production value on a tight budget. To expand the story to encompass the World Warrior storyline, locations and large roster of characters would require a hugely increased budget and hour long episodes like most cable series we all love to watch. To guarantee the kind of production value (and budget that a SFWW TV show truly deserves) means partnering with a large Studio backed production company. With many studios interested we partnered with one that we believed best understood the 'vision' and more importantly understood the creative process that made SFAF what it was.

However working with Studios is never straight forward, contract making takes time (years) in that time, creative execs come and go from a studio, so who you end up working with down the line calling the shots on your show's development may well not be the person you originally pitched to and believed in. You are at the mercy of trying to work as best you can with all the players involved when things finally get moving. As the process developed it was clear that despite being an exec Prod. on the show, I wouldn't be the lead writer or director of the show, and without being in creative control, I would not be able to guarantee an authentic continuation of the SF story in live-action that you have grown to love and support. In any case, without going into too much detail, the Studio we had partnered with had a finite number of years to develop and sell the show to a channel or network, before the contract would elapse. Sadly after all was said and done, an effort to sell the developed show by the Studio happened too close to the gate and didn't land in time. So the rights sit back with Capcom. Hard to fathom that 5 years of work, energy and frustration in the studio system for myself, Jacky and Mark have led to nada....back to Square 1.

So in a nut shell do not expect a follow up series anytime in the immediate to near future. Horrible news I know, but all we can do is look forward. I still have a fantastic relationship with Capcom and the fight to do something with them in this space is not over! Over these 5 years I've developed some incredible creative material that in the meantime could see the light of day as a Graphic novel etc. while my team navigate ways to still bring authentic live action SF to the screen. Thanks for your patience, I know this isn't the update you were hoping for, but you deserve to know the truth.

Thanks as always for the love and support for the body of SF work we've done thus far.

Big love from myself and the rest of the team.

~Joey

Not surprised to hear about this, but it’s still a bummer! :csad:

Well it’s nice to have some kinda closure at least. Ansah broke the curse imo.

AF was my introduction to the world of SF. Awesome web series!

At least Ansah and co. want to continue making more Street Fighter!

not surprising about the status of world warrior.
i guess it's too hard to pull off.

but what ansah did with assassin's fist was amazing.
i grew up playing those games.

maybe some of you weren't born yet, but back when the FIRST street fighter game came out. you can only choose ryu and ken.
and some arcade cabinets only had one button instead of the regular six.
but it was one GIANT button that you had to smash with your fist. lol

AF actually felt like live action street fighter and brought back those memories for me.

and i really liked how they did akuma's origin story in it.
