The Hanover Sheriffs Department says that an attack on a Lee-Davis High School student is not linked to gangs or violent cliques within the school.
It was not linked to that sort of rivalry, said Capt. Mike Trice of the Hanover Sheriffs office.
Two 15-year-old students from Lee-Davis confronted one another Friday evening at the Tractor Supply Company near the school on Mechanicsville Turnpike. One of the students faces an aggravated malicious wounding charge after he struck the other student across the side of the head with an ax, Trice said.
Trice said the victim was hospitalized with a severe laceration across the side of his face that required multiple stitches.
There was an increased police presence at the school this morning as a precaution, Trice said, following news reports that may have exaggerated the publics perception of the incident.
The alleged attacker was being held without bond.
Commonwealths Attorney R.E. Trip Chalkley said he would seek to try the accused, whose name has not been released, as an adult.
