Aiken, SC—Josh Day, helped create secret clubhouse: “We had a TV, we had a GameCube, lots of movies, we pieced together a computer.”
Sounds like a student lounge dream…and for Adam Tucker and Josh Day, it was… The problem? It was in some attic space of South Aiken High School and no one knew about it.
Adam Tucker, created secret clubhouse: “The idea…you know how the teachers have a lounge and they kind of have a room to themselves? Well, we walk into school kind of tired and just wanted some rest and stuff and we got hungry and we had no where to just lay down.”
Tucker says the secret clubhouse was inspired by the show ‘Hogan’s Heroes’. It had a rope ladder for students to get up and down, and they even had some fake security cameras to deter unwanted visitors…still no one noticed for 6 months.
Day: “It was kind of a rumor around school that, you know, there’s a clubhouse in the 300 building, and I think 3 or 4 people had seen it and it was the talk of the school.”
But just last week, the clubhouse was discovered. And, while the guys did get in some trouble…it certainly made for a talker with the school staff.
Day: “They thought it was funny. They got a kick out of it, and a couple of the teachers and administrators went up there and took pictures and were showing them to their classes.”
While the secret hangout has now been taken away from them…maybe the greatest story that ever lived at South Aiken High School, will forever remain.
Tucker: “We did it just because we wanted to, not to be remembered. I’m not trying to say that we want to be remembered, or anything. I mean, it kind of got around and after that, people were just like, wow. That actually happened in our school and they did this? And it’s like, yeah, I mean we’re going to get remembered, that name probably forgotten, but that room, people are going to remember that room for time to come.”

I actually attend the very same school and I just heard about it yesterday. A friend and I once climbed up on the school's roof one night, but it's nothing compared to this.

Did they ever find One Eyed Willie's treasure, or did the Fratellis beat them to it?

Nice. There was a room right above the music hall. Me and a bunch of people snuck up on the roof and got in. It was pretty much the brains of the entire school's network. We didn't have the balls to unplug anything. :P

I like the fact that we're in 2010 and they had a Gamecube.

I like the fact that they watched Hogan's Heroes.

Well they would have been discovered a lot sooner if they'd been chucking Wii remotes around up there. Plus whats a Gamecube, $20 now?

"...Well, we walk into school kind of tired and just wanted some rest and stuff and we got hungry and we had no where to just lay down.”

Line of the decade lol.

Damn, and here I thought kids today didn't have the imagination to pull off an adventure like that. =D

I know I wasn't the only one to think of the Never ending story with this story with the words "Say my name Bastion"

This needs to be adapted into a series of books for young readers, "The Schoolhouse Clubhouse"

The room that will change lives forever , lol.

I remember kids used to sneak up to the fourth floor of my old high school to have sex....so I think the not so hidden sex floor trumps the secret club house, but that's just my opinion.

Reminds me of that movie The Neverending Story, where the boy hid in the school's attic to read the book.

Awesome. If they had been homeless this would have been perfect for them. You horde school lunches during the day and bring them back to your "home," access the internet thru the school's wifi, take showers in the boys locker room. What else do you need? :)

They pieced together a computer? I'd like to mock these kids but they created a secret clubhouse in the attic of their school.
