​Drunk Passenger Tries to Break Into Cockpit, Triggers Hijack Alert

A drunken passenger attempted to break into the cockpit of a Virgin Australia flight from Australia to Indonesia on Friday, causing the pilot to issue a hijack alert.

"There was a drunk passenger, intoxicated and aggressively behaved," Heru Sudjatmiko,the airport manager for Virgin Australia, told the BBC. "He was trying to enter the cockpit, banging the door but he did not enter the cockpit."

Eventually, the flight crew detained and handcuffed the passenger—identified as Matt Christopher, a 28-year-old from Australia—but not before the pilot issued a distress signal about a possible hijacking.

By the time the flight landed in Bali, authorities had shutdown the airport for two hours and Indonesian troops were waiting to board the flight.

"There was no hijacking at all," Sudjatmiko said. "It was only a miscommunication."

Christopher—pictured below—was arrested on charges of creating a disturbance. The flight's 139 passengers and six crew members were unharmed.

A Florida Woman Called 911 Last Week to Report a Sun Halo as a UFO

A brilliant halo around the sun filled the skies over central Florida last week as a result of sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high-level cirrus clouds. Thousands of people took pictures of the event, and at least one of them called 911 to report it as a UFO.

Oh, Florida.

Bride Shoots Niece Dead at Bar on Wedding Day

Before anyone asks, no it was not in Florida. It was over who would drive after leaving a bar presumably after a lot of drinking.

A Beaver County woman was arraigned this morning on charges she fatally shot her niece in a New Brighton parking lot Thursday night.

Christina George, 30, of Conway, is charged with homicide and related crimes in the death of Katelyn "Kaytee" Francis, 21, of Fairmont, W.Va., about 90 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Ms. Francis suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian, where she died early this morning, borough police said.

Ms. Francis, Ms. George and her new husband, Jeremy Harvan, were out drinking at a bar, celebrating the couple's wedding earlier that day, when they got into an argument about who was going to drive, police wrote in a criminal complaint.

Officers went to the parking lot next to Jimmy K's bar at 911 Eleventh Avenue about 9:52 p.m. for a report of a gunshot and took Ms. George into custody there. Police believe she shot her niece with a 9 mm Glock pistol owned by Mr. Harvan.

Mr. Harvan told police his wife got the handgun out of the center console of his truck and fired, and Ms. George, too, told police she discharged the gun, they wrote in the complaint.

Deanna Chenoweth, friend and former co-worker, said Ms. Francis worked as a cashier at the Shop 'n Save grocery store in Fairmont until about February. She said Ms. Francis was a single mother whose son, Kody, was her "No. 1 thing in life."

"He was her whole world. She always talked about him," she said.

New Brighton police could not be immediately reached for additional information. Ms. George did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2.

An autopsy will be completed at the Beaver County coroner's office.

Meet "the only licensed firearms dealer in America running for Congress," and by his own account, maybe the only congressional candidate "who will stand up to Obama" with a cannon if necessary, which it won't be, if only you'll vote for him.

John Stone hates big government so much that he's willing to leave his longtime Washington career as a staffer for three different congressmen, in which he's made $68,250 in the past half-year, in order to run for election as a congressman. He also probably pulls down a paycheck as the head of a "nonpartisan nonprofit" called the U.S. Freedom Foundation, which is weird, since neither its home state of Virginia, nor the IRS, nor ProPublica, have any record of a nonprofit by that name.

But Stone's totally an outsider, you see, because none of the big government that pays him has donated any funds to his campaign. In fact, he'd like to vote out the House Republican leadership, too, along with Obama.

Rebelliousness! It's in his blood, understand, as a descendant of Georgia revolutionaries and as a guy with a cannon and probably many more guns and also as a graduate of the public policy program at Pat Robertson's Regents University. Just take a gander at his rebellious campaign ad above.

"My forefathers used a cannon like this one to fight the British in Savannah and win us a Constitution," he says, because that's how constitutions are made: You kill guys with cannons, and before dying they agree you won, and then the Cannon War Master of Ceremonies comes over and hands you your trophy of a gilded cup with an eagle on top, and the cup has a new Constitution jammed inside, along with a Desert Eagle .50-caliber semiautomatic pistol and a pack of survival seeds.

But I digress. History lesson complete, Stone continues:

"As the only licensed firearms dealer in America running for Congress, I'm willing to do the same if we have to. But it's a whole lot easier just to vote in new House Republican leaders who will simply stand up to Obama and defend our Constitution."
Voting in new leaders is easier. Or is it? If it were that easy to fix the country without firing off cannons, you probably wouldn't even mention the possibility of having to fire off cannons. But if you think the cannons are going to be necessary, then maybe it makes sense to mention them.

Eh, let's not overthink this. The point is freedom, and Constitution, oh and cannons. So vote Stone and get the cannons. Or rather, vote Stone or else you get the cannons. Whatever.

Woman Dies in Car Crash While Posting How Happy "Happy" Makes Her

A woman in High Point, N.C. died in a car crash yesterday after her car veered onto the median and into an oncoming truck. Investigators claim that the crash was a result of her posting about Pharrell's "Happy" to her Facebook page.

At 8:33, Courtney Ann Sanford shared on her Facebook:

"The Happy Song makes me so HAPPY."
At 8:34, the High Point Police Department was called with a report of the crash. Further investigation into Sanford's online activity revealed she was also taking frequent selfies as she drove down the highway.

Sanford was letting her friends know how happy she was at that moment, and sadly that moment was one of her last.
The driver in the truck Sanford hit was not injured. But the sentence above will live on forever.

People, using your smartphone (texting, selfies, facebook post, etc) is the stupidest thing you can do. This is a tragic story but everyone can learn a lesson on what not to do while driving

I shouldn't have laughed but I did. I just hope this woman didn't have kids cause it'd make this completely avoidable death even more tragic.
