Looking at this summer so far, with the release of one of its biggest films in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen yesterday, I have to ask is anyone else really disappointed with this summer? So far this summer, I have seen only 1 film multiple times (Star Trek) and only have wanted to see 1 other film multiple times (Up). Lets' compare this to last year when I saw Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight, and Wall-E multiple times (and that's just at the top of my head).

I know many of these were made during the writer's strike, but the quality dip in this summer's films is stark. Does anyone else feel this way?

I'm mostly talking about the big films. Movies like The Hangover and Drag Me to Hell I'm not really talking about in this argument.

out of the blockbuster only Star Trek I really liked
Terminator Salvation...meh
Transformers ROTF...meh
XO: Wolverine...bad

I think that pretty much wraps up huge blockbusters. There are still films I liked this summer, Up, The Hangover and there are alot I am looking forward to but as for blockbusters this summer is pretty much wrapped up for me

May spoiled us, i wish some of the films in may were to be released in june/july
i cant wait for August and September, District 9 and 9 will be great

When is District 9 due out? That looks incredible.

May tossed a lot of films at us, but only Star Trek and Up are really worth it. The other May films I found mediocre to poor in quality.

cosign... I recently just saw Up and it blew me away
and District 9 comes out Aug. 21 same day as Inglourious Basterds

I'm going to remember that day in August then

The District 9 trailer was the best part of the Wolverine viewing experience :o

I will say this though, the last 2 years have been fantastic for comedy

Tropic Thunder
The Hangover
Pineapple Express
Role Models
Step Brothers
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Get Smart
(not all were released in the summer)

Now Funny People, Bruno, 500 Days of Summer and surprisingly The Ugly Truth look good

I've not seen it. I'll have to check this clip out

I dont know what you're talking about Spider-Fan. I think this is a great summer of movies.

I haven't seen it, but Up! is supposed to be phenomenal. Like you already stated, Star Trek was awesome. You can consider it to not be a "big movie" all you want, but The Hangover will likely gross well over $200 million domestic. That's pretty F'n wild for an R-rated movie, much less an R-rated comedy. We're still waiting on stuff like Public Enemies, which looks outstanding, and Bruno, which will most likely exceed Borat in how funny it is.

Star Trek, The Hangover and Drag Me To Hell were all great movies. And, yeah, those two movies count, man! And I'm glad they still make movies such as these instead of throwing just Transformers & Co. at us in summer, y'know?

Terminator Salvation was a decent flick. Didn't care about the other movies. Looking forward to Public Enemies, Up (being released in fall here) and Public Enemies.

Good: Star Trek, Up, Drag Me to Hell

OK: Terminator:Salvation

Disappointing: Wolverine, Land of the Lost, Transformers ROTF

I'm hoping that the Harry Potter flick will be another good one, since I'm not expecting greatness from G.I. Joe.

I liked Terminator and Drag Me To Hell quite a bit, Angels and Demons was good, Star Trek was cool, I'm really looking forward to Harry Potter and Final Destination should be fun in 3D; I also have high hopes for District 9, and Public Enemies looks good.

Transformers 2 is one of the worst big budget blockbusters ever behind probably only the first Transformers abomination...pretty much everything else this summer ranges from so so to varying degrees of bad.

A huge disappointment in comparison to last summer.

would it be surprising that GI Joe was praised by the critics and everyone else loves it too

my hope mainly lies with these after-blockbuster movies.. like harry potter, inglourious basterds, district 9 etc

oh crap..:wow: not sure which ill watch first..

hopefully only one of those has a midnight show that way im not forced to choose. lol

Oh yeah, almost forgot about Inglorious Bastards...looks like there are a decent amount of good movies this summer, most of them just aren't huge "summer blockbusters."

1998 was just like that. After the mega-hyped movies like Godzilla and Armageddon turned out to be garbage the summer was salvaged with smaller movies like The Negotiator, Blade, Mask of Zorro, etc. I hesitate to mention Lethal Weapon 4 because the only reason to see that movie was Jet Li.

Aside from Star Trek 2009 has been forgetful.

2009 will be known as a forgettable year for big blockbusters, BUT it's a plus for smaller movies like District 9.
