None of the later Pokemon generations have been as good as the 1st. That initial 151 was perfect.

Still, if each franchise is going to get updated, recent core characters, why not Pokémon? FE got the recent Lord, Ike, Earthbound got the recent protagonist Lucas, every veteran got an updated look to reflect their appearances in recent games (best examples are Captain Falcon and the StarFox trio), some got movesets to reflect their recent changes (Link having a Twilight Princess based moveset, even if the change was merely cosmetic) and some characters having what I call hypothetical updates to their looks (like Pit and Sheik, ya know, if the Kid Icarus franchise had a recent game out, this would be Pit's recent look, and if Sheik was in TP). Its just marketing, really. Bad business NOT to have a D/P Pokèmon playable during the D/P era.

IMO, D/P is equal to the 1st gen Pokémon as far as design and in-game playability.

umm last i checked lucario was in the game as the "update" and there were plenty of diamond and pearl pokemon in the pokeballs

meh... u just like them better because they were the first...

Silver and Gold imo have been the best pokemon games ever... in story, and the fact that after you beat the game u got to go over to Kanto and see how things have changed.

But there's several pokemon i have loved to death from post RBY generations.

You're just being nostalgic since those were the ones you grew up playing with in RBY. The first 151 had just as many lameass pokemon as later generations. Lickitung, Farfetch'd, Ditto, Porygon. Heck, these 4 are among the WORST pokemon of all generations combined.

I'm glad that both of you just tried to explain to me why I don't understand what I like.

The subsequent generations have just been sillier versions of the first.

Give me Sandshrew, Ditto, Psyduck, Hypno, Diglett, any of the 150 over those silly things any day of the week. And Venusaur is still the best of them all.

the original 151 pokemon will always be the best IMO.. but yeah, since D/P needed a rep, mewtwo had to go. i imagine in future SSB games, the pokemon trainer will use different starters (or others?) and pikachu will be there (of course). i was kind of hoping jigglypuff was going to get the boot in brawl and make room for another well-known 1st/2nd gen pokemon (like meowth).

I rank them as 1st, then 2nd and 4th (D/P reminded me a lot of G/S), then 3rd.

I agree with this. 3rd had the best starter pokemon since RBY but there weren't many pokemon which were as cool as some from the 1st and 2nd.

I think the Pkmn Trainer idea is a better way to do them in SSB instead of individual character slots. Put a Team Rocket trainer in there and get 3 more pokemon to the roster, etc..

um i like farfetch'd and lickitung quite alot thank you very much. i could careless about how good they are in battle.

what was so lackluster about ruby/sapphire? it seems to be at the bottom of everyone's list.

I liked the 3rd Gen Pokémon, but the overall experience was lackluster.

Ironoically, I hate the 2nd Gen Pokémon, but the overall experience was sensational.

They're terrible pokemon to use in the games. The only thing Farfetch'd had going for him was he was the only pokemon that could learn Fly and Cut in RB. After Y though, it was more common for pokemon to learn that combination.

Lickitung was a VERY poor man's Snorlax.

Rarity wise, they were both the ONLY Lickitung and Farfetch'd of the 1st Gen. Remember, you could only get one in Red & Blue, and you had to trade for it.
I don't remember them in Yellow.

Since when did this turn into a Pokémon topic?

^^i know. does pokemon even have its own forum on here?

There's probably an old Pokemon discussion thread somewhere.
