News that Sonic and Mario could finally face off in hand-to-hand combat wasn't the only Super Smash Bros. Brawl-related news to arrive today. Although the Wii brawler had been scheduled to ship on December 3 ever since the E3 Media & Business Summit in July, the game's official Web site now has its release date as "TBD." Web caches of the page show that the change occurred within the last 24 hours.

Though not yet 100 percent officially delayed in North America--Nintendo had not responded to GameSpot's request for official confirmation as of press time--the date change could be a signal that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is slipping from its initially announced 2007 release window. In doing so, it would join a throng of high-profile games pushed into the now sardine-can-tight early 2008 shipping schedule. However, at a Tokyo press conference this morning, Nintendo announced that the Wii game won't arrive in Japan until January 24, 2008.

Such a postponement would send the game's rabid fan base into varying degrees of despair and apoplexy. For over a year, Nintendo has steadily whipped up enthusiasm for the game by revealing additions to its iconic cast. These include new characters such as Zero Suit Samus, Solid Snake, and now Sonic the Hedgehog.

What would a great Nintendo game be without a delay?

from what I've read, the japanese release date was going to be december 31st before the delay. So with the Japanese delay being less than a month, we still could get brawl here in the states before the year ends.

Its also possible that only the Japanese version is getting delayed, as Wii Fit is also coming out in December in Japan. So Brawl might have been delayed so as not to interfere with the sales of Wii Fit.

This is all just speculation though. There's supposed to be a playable demo at the E for All convention next week in Los Angelas, so we'll probably find out what's happening with the US version then.

Considering they only released Sonic to the public just now, I'm guessing there's a few more Sonic related characters to appear.

But seriously, no more than the usual three. Sonic, Knuckles and Tails. If I see Shadow there, I'll throw my controller at the Wii.

Sonic should be the only character from his universe in this game. This game is a matchup of Nintendo characters and its great to have cameos from other companies, but they should just be cameos and not be several characters from their series. Sonic is the best representation and really he's all thats needed

That's my thoughts also. Like was mentioned by Ncrawler, it will be playable at E for All, and I don't think they'll miss that major shopping holiday. If one game will put the Wii on top during the holiday season it will be SSBB with Sonic and Snake.

I already know people who have cursed the Wii since it was released that have now gone back on it and said they are getting one just because of Sonic being in SSBB.

Nintendo isn't stupid.

Also, just a side note. I don't mind delays too much. If it makes the game better, then so be it. I would say the delay to Metroid Prime 3 was way worth it.
