I was thinking about this a few days ago actually - when will we get a superhero movie without a villain? I don't mean that in the sense of, "oh, turns out the bad guy was actually sympathetic", I mean straight up no bad guy period. The hero is racing the clock, or fighting against the elements, or battling some inner-struggle, etc.

I’m sure it can be done but would it really be that compelling? I mean we could have a movie about Superman saving the world from a meteor but wouldn’t it be more compelling if there was some evil force trying to stop him? I would argue that for a 2 hour film, we need that villain.

Actually, upon further review, I 100% would love to do Death of Captain Marvel as Captain Marvel's final film, and have no real villain in the movie. Just like Jim Starlin, my villain is cancer!
