Well, if you're basing what you like off how 'new' it is that doesn't bring a lot of options to the tables. I mean I see your vote went towards ACII, which is a sequel, and by usually, by definition, sequels are usually not really 'new', either

Good gosh...:whatever:

Well, that was last gen

A game that's not even a decade old is the last generation?

Sure, it's not on for 360, but still...look at what the entire Halo gaming experience has done to the Xbox, old and new. I'm a fan of Mass Effect, but one has to say that Mass Effect took a lot of what Halo did and is still doing.

It doesn't matter how old it is. A "generation" of games is defined by the hardware. And Halo: Combat Evolved is most certainly from the last generation.

Yep, the XBOX is last-gen. Current-gen is Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.

I'm leaning towards Uncharted 2, so far. Still playing through Assassin's Creed 2...and it's certainly a contender. Easily.

Batman Arkham Asylum is second, or third maybe, on the list. I think it might be the best new IP, even though it's based on Batman.

Uncharted 2 will probably get the nod from me. I just don't think there's been anything that matches up this year.

I will be shocked if Modern Warfare 2 wins it, here. Slightly so if somewhere else.

Good gosh...:whatever:

Good gosh, what? Is what I'm saying somehow inaccurate?

A game that's not even a decade old is the last generation?

Yes, as posts above have stated generations are based on hardware. This generation is PS3/X360/Wii and last was PS2/Xbox/GCN. So, the first Halo would be last gen.

Yeah, I don't really see what you mean here

I didn't see any of Halo in Mass Effect.

That one would need some explaining for me to get.

Meh, to each his own I guess. I haven't played the entire game, and only a demo of it, but still, I wasn't a fan. Sure, it's great, but it doesn't seem original to me, it's like a Gen. X of Indiana Jones, or male version of Tomb Raider. Nothing new.

And the best gaming experience of this generation has to be the first Halo. But, again, that's still my opinion, lol.

But, then again, maybe you've only really had the PlayStation game consoles(1,2,3), and I have only had Xbox and 360, so what we're discussing is most likely apples to oranges, haha.

Actually I think Pat leans more towards the 360 (he owns both). He just really enjoyed Uncharted 2 is all.

Uncharted 2 isn't everyones cup of tea. I wouldn't write it off based purely on brief demo play tho. I assume you tried it at a friend's house (assuming that since you said you only buy Xbox consoles), it gets much better. As good as the multiplayer is, single player is where it's at, and the demo is MP only.

Tho to be fair I wasn't a fan Halo 1 or 2 in the least, and it's one of the biggest gaming franchises ever, so it's just differing opinions. (Bought Halo 2 for PC and regretted it, my Halo 1 experience came from borrowing a friends Xbox for a little bit while he borrowed my PS2 in return)

Edit - As a side note, I wouldn't use the argument of Uncharted being unoriginal while praising Halo. Plenty of FPS's came out before Halo. It's just that Halo did things right for console FPS's making the genre more viable for consoles. Just as Uncharted took older gameplay mechanics and near perfected them making it a stand out title. In that Halo and Uncharted are similar.

Well, my vote went to uncharted 2, I played several great games this year but I believe uncharted topped them all and quite easily in my opinion, others I would've considered assassins creed 2, arkham asylum and I guess modern warfare 2 but I think uncharted topped them all, looking at the votes, it seems to be between arkham asylum and u2 so far

Arkham Asylum and Re5..the replayability in RE5 was amazing imo. I don't know many people who didn't go and try to do everything possible.

However, Batman has been the best game imo of this year

I've only played I think 3 games on this list. Most I will get for Christmas.

The 3 I've played are Assassin's Creed II, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Scribblenauts.

Scribblenauts is fun but the controls can be a pain and the novelty wears off a little. It's not a game you play for several hours straight.

Arkham Asylum was fun but it's too short. And once you beat it, there's absolutely nothing to do. I already got most of the Riddler trophies so I spent maybe 30 min getting the ones I missed. It also has the worst final boss I have ever seen in a game. Just absolutely stupid and 75% of the fight you're fighting goons while he's not even on the field. In fact, all the bosses sucked in that game. 90% were clones of Bane. Beating Ivy was slow and tedious.

Assassin's Creed II is my game of the year so far. HUGE improvement over ACI. No going in and out of the animus to control the Assassin character. The story is much better, all of the characters are appropriately fleshed out (them main ones more so, obviously), it even makes Altair, who was a *****e in the first one, more likable. Not to mention, the graphics are gorgeous. I know Uncharted 2 is supposed to be the best but that's not set in the Italian Renaissance which gives ACII a significant bonus.

I'm not going to vote yet. Still want to play more of the nominees.

I think Uncharted 2 is any action fan's cup of tea. If you can't get into U2, then you just might not be into action games.

Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum are the top 3 of this year for me.

Just got, and started playing, Resident Evil 5...and it's pretty damn fun.

I'm gonna have to go with MW2 loved the gameplay, graphics, and voice acting. The in-game experience was fantastic and byfar the best FPS (imo).

Assassin's Creed is a close 2nd followed by Batman.

I'd like to play uncharted but my cousin hasn't finished MGS4 yet so i can't play his ps3

After playing, and finishing Assassins Creed II, I think I'll have to revise my list:

1. Street Fighter IV
2. Dragon Age Origins
3. Uncharted 2
4. Assassins Creed II
5. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

ACII caught me off guard. I enjoyed the first one well enough, but never really all that much into it, but ACII took everything wrong with it and improved it. Significantly better story, much more detail to character and much less repetition. Couple of rough spots here and there, and I'm not so sure on the direction of the overall story, but very impressed with it

I'm gonna have to go with AC2... I loved Uncharted immensely, but i've always been a free roam kinda guy. I find them so much more immersive. Batman AA was a close third as well.

Outside of Arkham Asylum, the only game on the list I've played is MW2, and the lack of replayability with Arkham Asylum is one reason I got rid of it.

MW2 got my vote for pretty obvious reasons.

This.AA no replay at all.

It's annoying with AA, because all they needed to do was flood the asylum with neverending goons, and you have instant re-playability! Wasted oppurtunity, but I hope they can work it into a sequel.

I don't want to start a flame war, so please don't take it as such.

But...why would would MW2 get a nod?

Is it the multiplayer?

Lol well it sure as hell ain't the single player... GOTY will def go to either Among Thieves or AC 2.

Yeah, those two are the top dogs for it I think.

I'm thinking Arkham Asylum gets the best New IP award, if you want to give that one out. Would Batman even count as a new IP?

Yeah, not sure about Batman being an IP, but it definitely deserves an honorable mention.

Well, I just wonder because new IP's are always an interesting bunch to look at.

inFamous, Brütal Legend, Scribblenauts, Demon's Souls, and I'd count Batman in there as new IP's that will probably get sequels.

btw, does anyone know when the poll closes? I'd hate to miss out on voting just in trying to finish games.
