As of yesterday, Superman has made $597.3 million dollars
$598.5M now.
Yesterday's domestic numbers = 650k, -33% from last week.

I LOVE THIS IDEA!Praying for an IMAX re-release for one final boost.
At least domestically, September is so barren and labour day is soon.

It seems like it will just about scrape over $600m mark. With it heading to digital on the 26th internationally it seems likely that will be one of the final nails in it's box office run. Seems like it will be fortunate if it manages to get to $610m even if they leave it in theatres for another week or two.
And that's okay. The movie's a success, but could've benefited from a better International performance (especially right out of the gate, since it then managed to maintain a good hold in several territories).
A (broader) Superman sequel is already being written and on the fast track. And isn't that all that matters?
The film will land in exactly the sort of range you'd expect even before release, between $600m-$700m which is enough for it to be considered a success IMO.
WB/DC should be happy overall, not so much just with it's box office performance as for me $600m for a character as iconic & well known as Superman should be the sort of minimum expectation, but the most important thing was that it didn't crash & burn like some of the latter DCEU projects & indeed some of the MCU's offerings in recent years. However it's BO performance + the fact it was mostly well received across the board should give them enough cause for hope that if future films that are Superman centric can be as equally well received the character will sooner or later start knocking on those $700m+ sort of doors at the box office.
Probably the most concerning thing was it's mediocre international showing which is usually the market that drives films across or within touching distance of that billion dollar mark, particularly ones that do as well as this did domestically.
I'll wait to see what this sequel is before celebrating that it's being written & fast-tracked because Gunn's made it quite clear, it's not Superman 2.
This is how I see it, under normal circumstances a well made, widely well received superman doing alittle over 600 is.....well to be kind underwhelming, however these are NOT normal circumstances. As I said in a previous post, the most recent Superman films (MOS, BvS) were not well received (even though they made money). How do I know this? well because when JL followed those 2 aforementioned films it did so badly that it's overall WW B.O. (around 650) was less than the first Dr Strange (670-ish)! Just imagine, Dr Strange made more than JL! Now we can get into the whole discussion about the Snyder/Whedon drama or the fact that the movie was poorly received but it was clear from JL's almost abysmal opening (95 mill-ish) that the audience are checking out.
All of this is just the Superman side of the story, now we get to the state of DC overall and it's even worse:
6 (that's right SIX) back to back flops starting with Black Adam and through the embarrassment that was the Flash and then culminating in Aquaman 2 and Folie a deux. Some Snyder cultists or DCEU apologists will say that it was the announcement of James Gunn's DCU and the overall reboot of the franchise that doomed films like Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2 and Shazam 2 but they forget to mention that Black Adam came out before the James Gunn announcement and the film clearly failed critically and financially despite of what the Rock says, basically killing any hope of DCEU continuation.
The cases of Aquaman 2 and Folie a deux are particularly poignant because both those films failed domestically and -more importantly - in the international markets where both their predecessors made their billion dollars. Hence the message was clear, the audience have abandoned the DC brand (whether be it DCEU or the separate but still DC proper Joker sequel) and that was the obstacle that Superman had to overcome and the task was herculean!
If I use a medical analogy, patient DC was flat-lining, not comatose but FLAT-LINING and Dr Superman came in, grabbed the defibs and jolted patient DC back to life! So kudos but the patient is still comatose and it's going to take Supergirl, the Batman 2 and the Superfamily films (and to a lesser extent the combination of the lanterns series, peacemaker and Clayface) to get the patient back to full health were he can start thinking about racing and breaking records.
Good luck James Gunn / WB and thank you for a lovely Superman movie that breathed life back to DC.
Remember I said under normal circumstances a 600 mill haul for a widely praised Superman movie would be underwhelming but these aren't normal circumstances because thanks to the previous managements at WB the DC brand was run into the ground and it fell up Superman to rehab DC's shattered image, hence a 600 mill total and wide acclaim can (and should) be considered a victory for Warners, I sure as heck think it is and WB clearly does also seeing how they're fast tracking a sequel for 2027, which is IMO the ultimate show of satisfaction.I disagree with that completely, I don't think $600m+ (lets for arguments sake say $625m by the end of it's run) would be underwhelming at all. That will put it as the second (or third if you want to count BvS) highest grossing Superman film to date.
If it made something in the low $500m, that I'd say would be underwhelming, what Superman (2025) has made during it's run is perfectly fine & acceptable.
I'm not going to deep dive into the failings of all the DCEU films for obvious reasons but the majority of them failed simply because they were bad or, if you want to be kinder, mediocre films. Sure a few other things here & there that impacted them, but whatever the excuse you want to make, ultimately they weren't good films is what it boils down to.
