I think when Superman's abilities were developing he could only jump far at first, then it morphed into the ability to fly. I guess he rolls his cape up underneath his shirt

Anything higher than 2 feet is flying no matter how you put it especially if they are in the air for more than 10 seconds in the air is flying. Hands down. And For someone who doesnt have a sense of HUMOR you sure spend alot of time on this thread.

If superman has great strength, his legs have to be powerful enough to propel him high up into the air, so he can probably leap far distances

Ok If a man is can jump to the top of the empire state building. How do you know he jumped and not flu???? I know i said 2 feet for 10 seconds and they are people in the world ( skaters, Basket ball players) the can do just that. but when ever they show superman JUMP if you want to call it that it to an incrediable hieght so how do we know hes' not flying. and i use the roof top part in the movie as an example he could have jump down from the banister he was standing on but instead he floated down.

Thats not acceptable. I think he cant because he is an alien and the earth's gravitational pull prevents him from doing so. its either walk or fly no jumping for the man of Steel.

At the end of the day, It really doesnt matter. I dont think he cant jump either. Even so, what would be the point? Even if he could jump, itll be so high, noone would think he was jumping. Ok leap over the empire state building supes. Its basically flying right over it. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!

I've been reading this thread for awhile. I don't think I've posted yet, but I say yes he can jump. He is able to leap, because that is part of the super abilities he has. He can jump without the use of the flying, however it feels or energy he has to use for him to fly. Just, because he can fly doesn't mean he can't jump. When you're flying your flying, when you're leaping you can't change direction until you land and you won't stay in the air. What would be the point of leaping if you can fly? He doesn't have to jump high your right, but when he was younger he didn't know how to fly he could just run fast and jump for to be in great distances, but he will just fly since he can.

The reason Superman can change his hair and all that stuff is because he does it all at virtually the speed of light. I don't think he needs a comb to make his hair different...he probably just liek freezes it or something.

Well since you want to use that scene, Young clarks powers were still developeing that is why when he crashed through the top of the roof of the barn he had a SURPRISED look on his face. he didnt know he can fly. This topic was NEVER about Right and wrong it was about Interpretation. Why would a kid run and jump throught corn fields.......Because he is amazed at the powers he is DISCOVERING he has.
