I wonder how fans would react if they somehow got Tom King, lol.

I personally love his writing and his current Superman arc is absolutely delightful, and of course he's won back-to-back Eisners so he's kinda on top of the comics world, but I know so many fans HATE him for his Batman, so the reaction from the fan community there would be fascinating. :funny:

It ain't happening of course, but I just like imagining it for a sec.

As long as this show doesn’t try to shove some social message down our throats then I’m good. But with this being the CW...I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

I wouldn't hold out much help for a show that's not chock full of social messaging.

Not only is the CW about that, but that's also partially what Superman has been a bout for a long, long time.

Social messaging could be good but it's just the way it is done. They don't have to shove it down our throats. It can be organic to the plot. It doesn't have to be too on the nose or preachy either.

This is the only CW series I’ll be watching. It’ll almost certainly be trash, but I love Superman.
:funny:

Bendis was better at Marvel. You could make the argument that Geoff Johns was better on other characters than Superman, but I think this show would be terrible without him.

Well, part of why Bendis left was because he wanted some more input into the non-comics side. I don't remember if he was on the dark council before Feige shut it down or not. So, Bendis being involved in the show is definitely a possibility. On the plus side, his leaving left Marvel no choice but to give Hickman carte blanche with the X-men...

Eh, I'd take Helbing as showrunner over David Goyer any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Only reason I have any hope for that Sandman series whatsoever is because of Gaiman and Heinberg's involvement, and even Heinberg's TV record is kind of a red flag, tbh, and I didn't care for Gaiman's own work on the TV version of Good Omens, either. My expectations will be on the ground for that show until further notice. But hey, I'm sure it will look nice. Yeah, I wish Supes could get a budget like that, but to me, there are more important things in a TV show than production values. Some of my favorite shows of all-time have been cheap as dirt, and looked it too. As long as they get the characters right, I'm good, and Helbing's the one person in the Arrowverse I have full confidence in doing just that.
I thought Goyer's involvement was only there because of contractual stuff? Since he's been a producer on it since it was meant to be a movie?

Well, he can't chicken out of actually marrying Batman and Catwoman here it might work.:cwink:

I don't think he chickened out in the first place. He's just been playing the long game so as to take a deeper analysis of Batman's psyche, i.e., what it means to truly put another person above his sacred vow. The story is far from over.

Well this is.....I don't know.

Maybe, but when they announced it, Netflix released a statement talking about working with the three of them together that made it sound like an equal-part collaboration, at least. Heinberg's the main showrunner, though. That much they made clear. And his TV record is not much better than Goyer's, sadly.

I mean, yeah, but it's 2019, and this is network TV. Subtlety ain't what it used to be.

My one little request to Tyler: hit the gym. You had the excuse of being a mere guest star with no prep time before, but that excuse is out the window now. Part of being the lead in a Superman property is being in Superman shape! Not asking for anything too crazy, just get back to your Teen Wolf build and you’re golden.

Or a bit bigger like he was in Bigger. ;)

Superman is the most high-profiled superhero to have his own TV show. I don't expect any for Batman or Wonder Woman as they're likely locked for the movies, though only Bruce Wayne could be used on TV.

They could do a twist where Superman and Clark Kent co-exist and that the faux Clark is revealed to be Mxyzptlk like in the comics.

We must have the Superman family of Superman, Supergirl, Superboy, Steel, Strange Visitor, New Superman of China, and Krypto. Maybe have Lana Lang as Superwoman and Sharon Vance as Strange Visitor.

Emil Hamilton should be in this to provide scientific stuff to Superman, though I'd like to see a younger one so he can be active in keeping up with Superman and the Super-Family.

They could shoot the Superman TV series either in LA or Vancouver.

That's actually where he lost the weight in the first place. He was more ripped in that film, but trimmed down a lot for it. He was noticeably bulkier before he took on that role, weirdly enough.

Sorry. If its any consolation, I suspect that Bendis has his eyes more on movies and prestige television, rather than a Berlanti production.

It's not, because it sounds bogus!!! Comics writers don't typically get to leap to "prestige" stuff right away when trying to make the jump to movies/TV, lol. King getting on New Gods was a surprise but also obviously due to the universal acclaim of Mister Miracle. So you can't fool me with your placating words! :oldrazz:

I mean, fairly certain Bendis was a heavy influence on Marvel's creative committee, till Disney freed Feige from it. Not really a surprise that GOTG took from Bendis' take.

Marvel's Civil War: Why Kevin Feige Demanded Emancipation From CEO Ike Perlmutter

And I do think Bendis sees more potential of moving up, with what has happened with Johns.

Johns took a long time to get there, though, on the TV/movie side. If that Vulture piece on the BTS side of the DCEU is to be believed, he had very little power/influence in that department less than a decade ago, and the ONLY place he had any real clout outside of the comics was on the CW shows. This unfortunately seems like the most likely place Bendis would start his climb to me, now that you've mentioned it. :argh:

Superman will almost definitely take one of the Vancouver spots vacated by Arrow, Supernatural, and The 100.

There's no way they'd strand another show out in Atlanta like they did to Black Lightning.

If the rumors of a Martian Manhunter spinoff are true, Black Lightning has 1 or 2 more seasons tops. And I doubt any future Arrowverse shows will be shot outside Vancouver if they can help it.

My one thought I had about this (and granted I realize it’s part of the Arrowverse), but WB has that DC Universe streaming service, why not develop this show as an exclusive for the service to keep interest in it?

They're just a vocal minority in my opinion. See, King's Batman is incredibly human and likewise the antithesis of "Bat-God." And, much in the same way that some Superman fans complain when that character isn't shown to be all-powerful or consistently victorious in battle, this particular subset of the Batman fandom can't stomach a Bruce Wayne who's flawed (arguably more so than usual), vulnerable, and beholden to the love of a good woman. The latter apparently makes him a "beta male." lol That said, while some of King's Batman arcs are amazing (Cold Days, in particular, is a must-read!), he unfortunately has a tendency to draw things out to a fault.

Interesting. I've told you before that I plan on reading that, and I will! I'm genuinely looking forward to it because as you know, I don't have a particularly positive view of the way Batman is portrayed in comics most of the time (hence why he's one of my least favorite DC heroes to read), and it honestly sounds like King and I might be on similar pages in regards to his characterization.

I've now read his Omega Men, Mister Miracle, Vision, his short Supes story from Action Comics 1000 and his work so far on "Up in the Sky," and I honestly severely doubt the guy who wrote all that brilliant stuff (truly some of the best comics I've ever read) could possibly write anything as ~terrible~ as these Batfans are making his run out to be, so I figure it's more likely to be more down to them not agreeing with his views on the character than in the quality of the writing itself. So I look forward to diving in and judging for myself once he finishes the story.

Honestly? Because I think DCU is already a Dead App Walking. I'm expecting the announcement of its content being folded into HBO Max any day now. *prayer circle for the comics*

Because why make a series on a streaming service with an already established Lois and Clark on a different network altogether when you can just put it there? The shows between Daredevil and Iron Fist weren't put on ABC just because they were also part of the same larger Marvel world as SHIELD and Agent Carter (except not really). Lois and Clark within the Arrowverse are already established, so makes sense to put their show on the CW.

You didn't see Batwoman put on DC Universe even though that could just as easily have been developed for that. Plus, you've got Superboy and Krypto on Titans anyway.
