do we know if their kid will be a boy or a girl? I haven't really been following the CW shows for the past few years.

it would be interesting if they bucked the trend of giving Clark and Lois a son named Jon, and gave them a daughter instead (named Lara?).

Named Martha.

I pray that they dont give Clark an the obligatory "Tech guy" and usual form of some kind of police force. I know Berlanti has found his superhero formula but it is time to break from it and try something new.

And dont give us any established Alien characters that look like Aliens but end up being normal looking humans.
Well, Beast Boy over at Titans Tower isn't really doing much, other than glorified tech guy.

so, Superman can just hire him. :o

People say Superman does better on TV, but IMO, most Live Action Superman TV Shows are pretty "meh" overall, which is a reason why, IMO, the franchise has yet to fully escape the shadow of Donner and Reeve.

Not really a debatable: in his first appearance on Supergirl (“The Adventures of Supergirl,” “The Last Children of Krypton”), Hoechlin made a great first impression. Indeed, viewers and critics alike were tripping over themselves praising his traditional, old-school, Reeve-esque portrayal of both Superman and CK. But in my view, this positive reception was largely based on a unique and rather “idealized” set of circumstances. Essentially, Superman was a famous “guest star” doing a “medley of his greatest hits.”

However, the rubber hits the road when producers have to churn out a 22-episode TV season. IOW, we probably shouldn’t expect a sudden uptick in quality or entertainment value from Team Berlanti just because it’s Superman (or just because it’s Hoechlin as Superman).

Indeed, one only has to look to Superman’s second appearance on Supergirl (“Resist” and “Nevertheless, She Persisted”) to appreciate that an actor’s portrayal (excellent though it may be) only goes so far. Ultimately, it comes down to the writing - which has never been the Arrowverse’s strong suit. :csad:

Great news of an actual Superman show. I do wish it were just called Superman though instead of having the "Lois" bit tagged on to the end.

My one little request to Tyler: hit the gym. You had the excuse of being a mere guest star with no prep time before, but that excuse is out the window now. Part of being the lead in a Superman property is being in Superman shape! Not asking for anything too crazy, just get back to your Teen Wolf build and you’re golden.

Definitely needs to bulk up. Next to Routh and Welling in Crisis photos, he looks like he's much smaller and in a different scale.

Best news as a Superman fan. I can see the cast being Clark, Lois, Jon, Jimmy, and Lex.

Recycle the Kingdom Come suit for Tyler.

If Superman and Supergirl crossover it would likely be all things Kryptonian.

Bring Brainiac and Lobo now that Krypton is cancelled.

I don't know about having Jimmy, because Mechad Brooks also makes Hoechlin look tiny. They cast someone far too big for Jimmy.

The other thing about this being Post-Crisis, assuming worlds have merged and reality has been forever changed, is that any of his established canon from Earth-38 could be easily retconned. So yes, in his current reality, he's already defeated Zod, and Zod is in fact dead. But they could bring in another Zod and say it's one from another Earth that survived Crisis, or whatever. So even villains Earth-38 Supes has already defeated (Zod, Toyman, Reactron, Lobo, Metallo, etc), aren't necessarily off-limits post-Crisis.

That said, I'm sick of Zod as a villain and have no desire to see him anytime soon. They've got plenty of others to play with for a while before they should need to go back to that well.

Not only Zod, but maybe another version of Jimmy and possibly Lex? Would Jon Cryer want to commit to a series? Or would he be content to guest star?

Zod has been overused. So that means that the next big screen reboot of Superman needs as their main villain... wait for it... Zod!! :o

I see no need for Jimmy in this incarnation, at least not Mehcad Brooks' version. He grew up and moved on from the Daily Planet long ago. He can guest star as Clark's buddy visiting from out of town, but that's all I'd want to see of him. They can include a young Jimmy-esque character who's an intern at the current Planet if they want that "kid who idolizes Supes" dynamic back. It will be interesting to see who populates the Planet now, with Jimmy and Cat Grant gone. Obviously, Perry White's still there. Hopefully we can get Steve Lombard and Ron Troupe in there. I'm sure there will have to be some new faces, too.

What are the chances that Jimmy could be erased in the Crisis and we could get a more traditional version? I don't care if he's black, as long as he's not someone who looks like he should be playing Steele. He needs to be smaller and shorter.

I’d love to see Bizarro in this

Maybe played by someone else other than Hoechlin though. Bizarro in the comics never looks just like an identical copy of Superman. He is much bigger and bulkier. How about getting Routh to play Bizarro instead, or even Welling? I doubt Welling would want to suit up for that though.

If Hoechlin is playing Superman full time on his own show, does that mean there's more potential for him popping up in Supergirl from time to time, just like other Arrowverse actors do on other shows? Before he was relegated to only 1 or 2 appearances per season. Now he could show up whenever the story warrants it, just like you could get Diggle on Flash or Cisco on Arrow etc.

It’s baby jon we saw his name on a whiteboard I believe when Amell took a BTS pic

Named Martha.

:funny:

While I don’t want it to be the team dynamic that the DC CW shows have done to death. I do think though this is the perfect opportunity to bring in Emil Hamilton. I’d hope he’d be someone Superman would go to now and then like in STAS.

Time from time is fine, just not full time like everyone else.

Who should they get as Perry White?

And are they going to have a photographer at all?

I think Hamilton is a given. He’ll be useful for giving exposition on the Kents’ mutant baby. :o

Is Metropolis going to be located in the mid west near Kansas? Or more on the east coast like in Superman the movie where it was New York?

This will be Post Crisis. Perhaps some of Superman’s history will be altered, especially concerning Superman’s villains that Supergirl has faced on her show.

What do you guys think of Blake Neely’s theme for him? Should it be updated for his solo show?

I think it’s one of the better Arrowverse themes already so they should probably stick with it. I’ve noticed it’s a very flexible theme that he’s already done several variations on, too.

The Superman theme that featured in season 2 of Supergirl was rousing and inspirational, so I think they should keep it. They can add to it as well.

I quite like this theme!

It's very uplifting, inspirational, and heroic - feels very "Supermanish." It also evokes the feeling of watching the sun rise or flying across the open plains (of Kansas), which of course fit Superman.

I hope they keep this and update it for his solo show. I could easily imagine this theme playing every week over the opening credits/logo sequence.
