As long as this show doesn’t try to shove some social message down our throats then I’m good. But with this being the CW...I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

I remember how excited I got when I heard when Smallville was gonna devote a whole season to a Darkseid plot (that's what got me to catch up on that show in the first place, as I had dropped it after the first few seasons), and how disappointed I was with what they came up with. This show is an excellent opportunity to give us a proper Darkseid season of TV. Yes, I know he'll be in New Gods, but there are so many elements to a proper Darkseid invasion that are perfectly suited to long-form storytelling. I want to see him working his influence on the human villains of the season, like Morgan Edge, Intergang, etc. I want to see Superman face Granny Goodness, the Furies, Kalibak, Parademons, Grayven, Glorious Godfrey, etc. in various episodes. If they can get Melissa to guest-star for a mult-episode arc, they could even include a loose adaptation of the arc where Granny tried to make Kara a Fury, and Supes had to go to Apokalips to bring her home. If they can include Big Barda, Orion, Mister Miracle, etc., that'd be amazing, but I suspect they'll be off-limits for a while, and I'd be cool with a version without them.

I see no need for Jimmy in this incarnation, at least not Mehcad Brooks' version. He grew up and moved on from the Daily Planet long ago. He can guest star as Clark's buddy visiting from out of town, but that's all I'd want to see of him. They can include a young Jimmy-esque character who's an intern at the current Planet if they want that "kid who idolizes Supes" dynamic back. It will be interesting to see who populates the Planet now, with Jimmy and Cat Grant gone. Obviously, Perry White's still there. Hopefully we can get Steve Lombard and Ron Troupe in there. I'm sure there will have to be some new faces, too.

The kid angle in live-action without the benefit of comic/22-page handwaving will definitely bring the opportunity to create or expand characters in Superman and Lois' supporting cast outside of the normal dynamic.

Can we talk about how the storyline for SUPERMAN & LOIS is basically a spiritual continuation of the storyline that was hinted at during the last episode of LOIS & CLARK?

You can't do New Gods stuff without Jimmy!

Same brother. I really hope we just get some great Superman arcs in the show. I'm cautiously optimistic for it!

I see Darkseid more as an endgame type of villian. I don't know how long the Arrowverse will go but maybe as the villain of the final crossover?

Calling it now, we’re going to get a World’s Finest crossover with Batwoman’s version of Batman. You just wait. And it’ll blow BVS: DOJ out of the water.

i hope so!

Presumably, as well as all the villains, they'll want to cast Perry. And I guessa few Superman characters already featured in Supergirl will cross over?

I wonder if there are any more Super veterans who could take new roles? Obviously Dean Cain, Teri Hatcher, Helen Slater and more have already done the Arrowverse. Marc McClure was in a Justice League cameo.

I wonder if in a few years' time Henry Cavill will be affordable to cameo as Jor-El...?

I wouldn't hold out much help for a show that's not chock full of social messaging.

Not only is the CW about that, but that's also partially what Superman has been a bout for a long, long time.

Omg. You’re right. This is their chance to do Darkseid properly now. Well....”properly” as much as the CW can do. Lol

I’m all in for this show so long as they 1) fix and update that sad looking costume and 2) dont give Superman a team of the snarky tech support people telling him what to do every episode.

They're doing a $100m+ Sandman show at Netflix, I feel like that'd be a better venue for TV New Gods than something like the CW

So does this mean that if Kara ends up appearing as a guest on this show that she will be obligated to tell Clark on how he's so much stronger than her and...

**Senses Flickchick rolling her eyes**

I'm just kidding.

But I would not be surprised if she does appear as a guest for the pilot.

Nevertheless, I did not see this coming. I know some of us always talked about how we wish it would happen someday but I don't think any of us really thought that it was possible.

I am definitely going to remain cautiously optimistic regarding this. It's too bad that they couldn't have done this sooner but better late than never.

I really hope that we will get to see some mini crossovers with Flash and Tyler's Superman in the future before Grant hangs up his cowl.

So the only question that I have is are they going to do a time jump where Jon Kent is a few years old already or are we going to start with him as a infant/toddler?

I’ve got a theory that they’ll age up Jon in a COIE with him playing a role similar to what Alexander Luthor did in the comics arc.

Eh, I'd take Helbing as showrunner over David Goyer any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Only reason I have any hope for that Sandman series whatsoever is because of Gaiman and Heinberg's involvement, and even Heinberg's TV record is kind of a red flag, tbh, and I didn't care for Gaiman's own work on the TV version of Good Omens, either. My expectations will be on the ground for that show until further notice. But hey, I'm sure it will look nice. Yeah, I wish Supes could get a budget like that, but to me, there are more important things in a TV show than production values. Some of my favorite shows of all-time have been cheap as dirt, and looked it too. As long as they get the characters right, I'm good, and Helbing's the one person in the Arrowverse I have full confidence in doing just that.

I'm sure Supergirl will guest star, and you'll finally get to see Superman be the one to get the biggest feats. ;)

Please site your source on this. Standard industry lead contracts are seven years. Honestly the show I'd be worried about first is Flash with Grant's contract likely ending next season, like Stephen he may chose to walk away.

Frankly, I think you have less to worry about with Grant, because Melissa is clearly pursuing other projects in her off time.

They've shown a trend of bringing on comics writers to their writing staffs over the last couple years, both with Sterling Gates on Supergirl and Flash, and now Jay Faerber on SG. Crossing my fingers they can continue that trend for this. My dream choices and favorite Supes writers of all-time would be Peter Tomasi and Kurt Busiek, who've both excelled at writing Supes as a family man, but of course they're quite busy and probably far too big to hope for. Still, some more comics blood on the staff would be lovely.

I would take a few minutes and think long and hard about this. Because you know who they would bring in...

I'm not sure how I feel about this, I like Tyler's Clark and Bitz's Lois but I'm not sure about a whole show with them. I get how with Supergirl and Flash on the downside of the leads contracts CW needs new shows to keep the DCTV gravytrain going.

Well after last night's Supergirl Jimmy's out, Mehcad's moved on. John Cryer's very expensive, I doubt he'd move to Vancouver for a CW salary.
The one i'd wonder about is whether they would recast Jimmy. Lex would not have to be in every episode. Cryer could just guest star here instead of Supergirl I do hope we get one Superman/ Flash race though.

We talking Geoff Johns or Bendis?
Bendis was who came to mind for me.

I'm no fan of Johns, but I kind of assume his involvement at some level given his position, and I don't HATE his work like I do with Bendis. Johns' involvement with the other shows has been pretty inoffensive thus far.

People say Superman does better on TV, but IMO, most Live Action Superman TV Shows are pretty "meh" overall, which is a reason why, IMO, the franchise has yet to fully escape the shadow of Donner and Reeve.

This would've been interesting news if this were a cable or streaming show. I'd love to see a high quality superhero TV show that isn't "gritty" or a deconstruction of superheroes. Superman could've fit that bill, but I don't think Superman media will achieve greatness as long as WB runs the show.

Bendis was better at Marvel. You could make the argument that Geoff Johns was better on other characters than Superman, but I think this show would be terrible without him.

Gotcha. I haven’t read a substantial amount of his work, but I know he’s polarizing.
