There has been much debate on which version of Superman will be the basis for the new movie. I mean, even though it's rumored to be basd n Birthrigh, should the Kents die, like in the Silver Age? Should he have the brutality of the Golden Age? What about being completely the way Siegel and Shuster made him, as an alien defender? List your opinions below.:supes:

How about both? Why does it always have to be "this OR that"? Why not "this AND that"? :o

Human nature...:o

And I agree, both. Both Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis have good ideas to use.

Oh boy! Another crisis debate! We don't have nearly enough of those.

I thought humans are usually greedy and want everything... guess I was wrong. My bad...:o

I can't wait for the argumentum ad populum arguments

Combine the best elements from each era into a coherent structure. :awesome:

You can certainly mix up things like what is the fortress, Daily Planet co-workers, which Lex Luthor and all, but you can simply not combine "Clark Kent is the disguise" and "Clark Kent is the real thing".

That's the big problem of Superman since 25 years.

All of it. At this point, its a given that post crisis elements will be in this movie. However, it'd be stupid to ignore everything else.

Make a compromise: Kill one Kent, make their be some villains with violence, and make him an alien defender of Earth by keeping away invaders.

As far as I'm concerned, Superman/Clark Kent should be an updated version of pre crisis Supes.

Lex can start out as a genius businessman, then over the course of the trilogy become the "mad scientist". Frankly, people say we havent seen businessman lex (despite the fact that he's been in STAS, L & C, and Smallville), but we've yet to see the scientist criminal lex in any form.

Jimmy should be a modern day teenager.

The kents could live or die, as long as Superman's not constantly going back to them for guidance once he reaches manhood. I prefer them dead, really, but I see the value in keeping them alive.

Any villain they use should be based on the modern day versions.

Yes you can. You can make him layered and have different personalities and identities and none are completely real or fake. Such as:

a) Superman is real because this is who Clark is and was raised to be. Do good with his powers.

b)Superman is a creation, a symbol and another identity because he still lies about his secret-identity and upbringing to protect the people he loves. Therefore, when he is around people he wont say the Kents are his parents, for example, or that he was raised in Smallville or that he is married to Lois Lane. Just to maintain that Superman is still a symbol. Someone to look up to.

c) Daily Planet Clark is real because whenever he writes an article or a story he knows he is fighting for truth and justice too by exposing the truth.

d)Daily Planet Clark is a creation because he doesnt want people to find out he is Superman. etc etc

You get the point now, i believe.

Well, it's all really a matter of whether or not they want it to succeed. If they want the movie to do well, they look at what worked in the comics, what the character and his world was when he was popular and relevant. Or if they want it to fail, they can go with crap like Clark is the real person and Superman is the disguise, and the saccharine scenes where Superman runs home to mommy for pie and advice because he's too much of a ***** to deal with his own issues like a man.

Corporate Lex (as long as he made his fortune from science) is the only modern element worth a damn and even it isn't all that since all he is is a "skinny Kingpin" to quote Neil Gaiman. I do like the current Brainiac, although he's just an update of the classic.

Who would be wild to see would be Ultra-Humanite. Mad scientist transplants his brain first into a hot actress and then into a giant, super-strong albino gorilla? I'm down for that. Might be too weird for mainstream audiences, though-maybe they should skip Delores Winters and go straight to the gorilla body.

Jonathan can stay alive without Superman flying back to Kansas when things get tough. Don't blame wimpy Clark on the life on his Earth father, blame it on bad writing.

Since it's current in comics and what the general public knows the most, they'll probably stick with Superman/Kal-El/Real Clark Kent as the real person and mild-mannered Clark Kent as the disguise. Since the movie seems to be mirroring Birthright to an extent, and Goyer said he was inspired by Superman: Secret Origin, it would make sense to go with that approach since that's what both stories used.

Or they can do the three person approach: Real Clark/Kal-El, Mild-mannered Clark Kent, and Superman.
