Not sure what you mean by tv intro?

I don't normally include opening credits in any of my feature length scripts, but Metropolisman made a good point, "This is Superman!". I also didn't want to be unoriginal and show planets and comets over the opening credits.

That being said, that is the old intro from the script I drafted a couple years ago, so it will be different when I post the entire script. :cwink:

Just my random and perhaps long winded thoughts about what I might do with it.

Rule no.1: No Kryptonite. Rule no.2: He's not Jesus (even though I love the Donner movies to death) Rule no.3: This is supposed to be fun.

To establish a reboot without having to spend 30 minutes or more on origin story I would simply have the opening credit scrawl and music set to footage of the moment Krypton explodes as the rocket has broken away from orbit and is going into hyperdrive. We would simply follow the rocket through space as the opening them e/credits played until it landed on Earth and was found by a couple in Kansas. Then cut to Metropolis 29 years later.

Clark has just arrived in the city. He keeps in touch with his folks via email (we wouldn’t see them in the film besides a picture but they could be used in the sequel). He’s got a little George Reeve’s/STAS Clark to him. Any real clutzyness or awkwardness would come from being around Lois. He would sort of gets *himself* in the love triangle by accident simply because he finds it much easier to relax around her when he’s Superman than he does when he’s Clark. Sort of a backfire of having to be so careful around others to hide his powers. She doesn’t hate either guy really but for obvious reasons Superman piques her interest.

As Superman he is a natural born leader who embodies strength and compassion. He’s a nice enough guy, has a sense of humor ..you might even feel like you could have a beer with him if he drank, but when innocent lives are being threatened he’s all business. I always loved how Reeve could so effortlessly go from “A friend” to “You diseased maniac, I’ll mold this box into your prison bars.” Or like in STAS as well. That’s the vibe I would want here.

Superman wouldn’t know a lot about what happened to Krypton but like Birthright he has a small device that has images in a language he can’t understand though he studies languages and the stars a lot to try and figure it out. The images of Kryptons historical figures and the symbol inspired his costume. There is a desire for connection with this home he’ll never see as anybobdy might have for their own heritage.

Now I like the love triangle but I would want to ease off it and not overdo it for now. Maybe have a scene at the end where Superman visits Lois at her place or something but just keep it light and fun then build on it in a sequel.

Lex would be Mayor of Metropolis but he would NOT be the main antagonist. He is a force of corruption with a benevolent face and his more the advesary of Lois and Clark than Superman himself. Nixon to their Woodward and Bernstein. They are mutual thorns in each others sides.

The main threat I would have for the movie would be Brainiac and I would want to borrow from STAS for his backstory. He's the Kryptonian computer who lies to the council about Jor-El's research and leaves the planet to die. I guess my take would be kind of Borgish. Where he can take over peoples minds with his tech. I'm reminded of one of the comics where the people of the city were undeer his thrall and had that 3 circle symbol glowing on their foreheads. It would be sort of like combining the collector concept with an assimilation thing. He would have two forms in the movie, one being the blue skinned humanoid and the other inspired by his chrome skull look from the 80's. Not unlike the STAS episode Brainaic would offer Superman access to his past and that of Kryptons. The combination of the device Superman has and that of Brainiac would lead into him building the Fortress at the end of the movie.

There would be no shortage of action with Superman battling Brainiacs robots as well as alien creatures he has collected and unleash. For Supermans powers I would keep it simply this. You can knock him down but he refuses to give up and he always gives as good as he gets. Sometimes you're not sure if it's so much because he's a man of steel or more that he's a man with a will of steel.

I'm currently pushing with all might for Superman to appear in a beard for at least one scene in the script. Thoughts?

How would I make a superman movie? I'll have to think about this, but for one thing no way near the crap that is SR.

for a sequel, I'd have battle-suit Lex Luthor lead the Superman revenge squad: Metallo, Parasite, Bizarro, with Brainiac as a manipulator behind the scenes.. the next film would introduce Supergirl, and involve Brainiac and Darkseid as villains..

I would do a Superman movie along the lines of Gattaca. Really getting into the head of Superman, and substituting smart storytelling for explosions.

I notice a lot of people dislike the idea of using Kryptonite in another Superman movie.

I for one think it is essential. Especially in an origin movie. Kryptonite is too big of a part of the Superman mythos (and American pop culture for that matter) to simply ignore.

I think the key is, you have to find a unique way to use it. I.E. Not Lex placing it infront of Superman and watching him depower. Metallo would be an interesting, new way to use it. Have his body contain the kryptonite but his body also made primarily out of lead, so it only effects Superman when he opens his chest compartment and exposes the kryptonite. Think of a fight of Superman vs. Metallo with Superman trying desperately to defeat him, but also keep him at bay so he doesn't get close enough to expose him to the kryptonite or have the opportunity to open his chest plate.

Its all a matter of how you use it.

Also, I'm thinking about writing a quick outline for a sequel to my original plot outline, but only if there is interest. Anyone game?

I would agree with this. However, it's not that Kryptonite is bad. Far from it. It's just..pardon the pun, suffering from over exposure. I would like to at least get one good movie in with a non-Kryptonite, non-Luthor main villan and then after that I'd be happy to have a Metallo brawl as I think that would be the best way to bring in Kryptonite without just having Luthor standing over him with it yet again.

Im up for the challenge...what was your original?

Most people, anyway.

Instead of a sequel, or even a reboot, the next Superman films could be prequels taking place years before Superman Returns, and Superman Returns will just be considered the tail end of the series.

The cast from SR could return, but because it would take place years prior to SR, there would be no Superkid to deal with, and they could even have Lex as a businessman, and simply explain that between the prequels and Superman Returns, he ended up losing the company and turning into a petty thief.

I think that's a pretty good compromise, but what's everyone else's opinion on something like this?

I don't want a restart. It could get out of hand in Hollywood. I rather see a straight sequel, since I want to see if they can improve it. And don't tell me it can't be improve, because it can. Just tell a good story with some more kickass action & it will work.

So you want the sequels to be prequels set before SR. So exactly what you are saying is you want movies set in the 5 years he was not on earth or movies set during the Donner/Reeve years. To me it seems all the stories have been told except for the 5 years.

Yeah... that's a pretty terrible idea. Why would they interrupt an unfinished story to jump back 5 years to a new story which had no obvious impact on the original story?

I want a restart... anything to get away from what Singer has done to it

I think the best is to make a Superman movie with no new origin but also with no connection to the other movies. Ala Batman 89, except not ****ty.

No, I mean a Superman stories set in the time BEFORE he left. It wasn't like he just left right after he moved for Smallville. It's obvious he was doing Superman stuff before then. That's when it would take place.

Prequels will be dumb considering that Superman the Movie and Superman II are pretty much the "prequels" for Superman Returns.

I'd like to see a reboot someday, but I also want to see Singer's story finished first.
