Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

I would like it to gradually grow to that. First film would be Superman versus an earthbound threat (Luthor, Metallo, Parasite, etc), then Superman versus an alien invader (Braniac), and then maybe Superman in War World or something of that nature.

That's a good idea. It's always difficult for directors to top their previous movie in a trilogy but it looks like you found a way.

As potentially bad-ass as an "intergalactic Superman" could be, that would also be insanely expensive to produce.

And WB isn't going to "go nuts" with Superman on the next film in terms of budget.

9 out 0f 10 we probably won't even see something like that unless they planned on doing a Legion movie. The closest we may see is if Darkseid shows up.

They'll test it with Lantern and further it with a Justice League flick down the road.

YES! I want to see Superman be Superman! I want to see him freed from the Shroud of Reeves Superman. Those (first two) films were great but they were made a long time ago... And they arent

a) As faithful as folk like to make them to be.

b) Very representative of todays Superman!

Stop trying to cast a Reeves look-a-like and go for someone burlier, someone who'll look good soaring through the clouds AND in a pair of dungarees fixin' Pa's tractor...
Have him fight Aliens in space, go to other worlds... wheel out the classic bad guys... Metallo, Brainiac, Darkseid... At this stage i would settle for mister Mind... Anyone but just more Lex Luthor! And not even a Krypto-armour Luthor, either...

That's why WB should go with DHII's idea: start slow with an earthbound threat and then build up to a mega space threat at the end of the trilogy. If the series were popular enough WB might spend the money to do it.

The problem with that theory is you can't think like that any longer, in terms of trilogies. Sure they pitch sequels and sometimes trilogies when proposing the original flick, but look what can happen. You might never make it to the 3rd one.

I just wanna see him punch something dammit.

like showtime said. no mroe building up. so after all teh years after SR we still shouldnt get a massice badass villain? its over now. they need to lose the breaks and go all for it.

This is true. You have to hit the homerun, and you get only one chance to do it. So you put all your eggs in one basket. ... Cheesy lockeroom cliche's aside, there are some parameters that the next film must(should)establish

- Clearly establish that this is a reboot. reimagining of Superman. Break away from Donner (It's been mentioned thousands of times)
- Cycle into action mode quickly (1st 15 mins of the movie)(Also been mentioned countless times)

Aside from those, I'd also consider it nearly mandatory that

- A physically agressive intrepretation of Superman. He's not afraid to throw punches (Mentioned thousands of times)
- less emphasis on romance. Lois (Mentioned hundreds of times)
- No Super offspring (I think we are safe here) (Universally hoped and prayed for)
- Super Villain.(s) - Brainiac is clearly the concensus favorite, although not my first choice. I could digest a movie with him as the villain though.

Aside from that Id just consider it a bonus if we have
- Brighter color pallette for the film (Mentioned thousands of times)
- Correction of suit's geometry and alignment Necklines, Capelines, Boots, Cape Shield, Belt (Buckle optional?) (Mentioned thousands of times)
- A Better Hair Cut as Superman....parting of the hair. Shorter Hair. Proper Curl. (Mentioned hundreds of times)
- Space Travel (Without the Kryptorocket/ Kryptopod)

This entire list seems to be completely redundant. I'm sure WB has to have these basic ideas/guideliness jotted down somewhere on their executive notepads eh?

it would be pretty dam cool to see superman flying around more in space and maybe have a space battle would be sweet to see that happen.

2) I also want to see an intergalactic Superman, but they have decided that is what Lantern is for.

And rightfully should. GL done a lots of adventure in space beside Earth. Why else many refer to Hal & other GLs as "intergalatic police"?

I still think they can go the BB route, i.e., a solid story with somewhat low-key villains. Have Metallo, Parasite, and Luthor as three villains for Supes to fight then end with a Brainiac (or some other alien) teaser. That should keep the audience entertained. Keep the budget and expectations for the first film low and up the ante in the sequel.

You guys mean like going to Krypton? :oldrazz:

It would have been nice if we got to see that footage, though... :o

The problem here is that so far DC/WB is afraid to cross over into the fantastic when it comes to their comic book films, and each film exists in it's own confining universe. I can't imagine Nolan's Batman existing in a film with cosmic familiaralities.
They must first recognize that these characters exist in a realm where anything is possible, a "reality" that is shared by all the heroes. Then we can revel in intergalactic adventures.
Marvel gets this(they are introducing a thunder god!); so far, at least, DC does not.
Perhaps a successful GL film will be a springboard toward this.

hopefully afan, it would be nice to see a dc universe take shape like marvel has going with im/hulk/thor/cap(and other future character under the full marvel studios banner).

*Shudders* NOOO!

I agree. I'm sure it would have been an overly long and tedious scene but visually it would have been stunning.

I don't see a JLA ever happening (at least with Bale) so I get tired of Batman's universe being considered the basis for other superheroes' universes. WB should just recognize that these are different characters with different tones and realities and sculpt the perfect movie for each individual.

I don't think it would be expensive to do a Superman film seet in deep space/distant galaxies. With CGI anything is possible. To do Green Lantern movies and Superman movies both set in the far reaches of the galaxy. I think DC is ready now with CGI. The time couldn't be better.

Superman needs to stay right here on earth. We don't need him flyin around the Milky way galaxy. Nice to see there are still no good ideas after 3 years for a new movie.

I always liked the graphic novel Superman: Peace on Earth and, now, I think it would be possible to adapt it into a movie (just a 90 minutes pic or less, though) and making every income from theaters, home media and merchandising with a percentage going to humanitarian aid in general.
Also, the possibility of a worldwide promotion from known pro-social active stars like Bono, Pitt & Jolie etc., a project like this could be more succesful and iconographical than a simple tentative reboot.

it doesn't have enough story to hold an audience for and hour and a half. And to throw in a more coherent plot, would detract from the message of the story... simply put: although the novel is fantastic, it is inappropriate for a superman movie, and it does not meet the demands of the audience.

However I could definitely see it as a Special Christmas TV broadcast; replicating in CG animation the art style of Ross.
