Superman Returns vs. Spider-Man 3

These were two highly-anticipated films that were considered to be disappointments upon release. Of these two movies, which do you consider to be better and why?

Although it is the more boring film, I do consider Superman Returns to be the better film of the two.

While some parts are enjoyable, SM3 was a mess overall.

Spider-Man 3 for the simple reason that it has many scenes which I found entertaining. Whereas Superman Returns is a great cure for insomnia.

Spider-Man 3, because at least the hero threw a ****ing punch in it.

For me, Superman Returns is the better 'made' film as such in terms of production value & aesthetic but both have serious flaws for differing reasons and the goals they had in mind upon release.

Basically this. I do think SM3 is a messier film, but at the end of the day it is simply more entertaining and I cared more about the central characters. SR might be more "competent" but it was also dull and sterile.

Yeah same here. Superman Returns is pretty boring while Spider-Man 3 is hilariously entertaining, so I gonna go with Spider-Man 3.

It's like picking Troll 2 over After Earth. Both movies are pretty bad, but one of them is gonna give you a good time.

Everything about Superman Returns to me was great except for the characterization of the man in blue himself.

Tonally, it was a nice mix of the Donner films and a modern tone I wish we had in the films today. Metropolis had that modern day art deco feel which was great. Daily Planet scenes were great too.

Superman Returns. Were it not for the fact that SM3 was a sequel starring actors we already knew and loved in these roles, I think it would have gotten even worse reviews.

Spider-Man 3 for sheer entertainment value. Particularly in the fight scenes - no one can design them as well Sam Raimi could. The emo dance scene doesn't really bother me, as much as the inclusion of Eddie Brock, Venom and the entire Symbiote storyline in general.

Ottman's score for SR though - that was truly something. I give it a spin every now and then (particularly when the DCEU bums me out) and gives me a little hope.

Funny, because it's true - Superman Returns is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring. It's a film about my favorite superhero that manages to make me not care about him at all. Superman IV, for all it's terrible production values is actually a lot more entertaining, hell Superman III is better than Superman Returns.

Spider Man 3 had some good moments, and was reasonably action packed - sure there were some so-so performances, but all in all I'd watch it again. Superman Returns, never again !

And of course, SM 3 has the "Evil Disco Peter Parker strut" which is hilarious.
I liked the resolution of the love triangle at the end - Franco did Harry Osborne a solid turn.

I agree with everyone who's said that despite being a bit of a mess SM 3 was much more entertaining.

Spider-Man 3 is an entertaining film with a great scene, the birth of the Sandman. Superman Returns is a boring film with a great scene, the plane scene. Spider-Man 3 wins for entertainment value.

The airplane crash in SR is epic....one of the best comic book movie scenes in comic book movie history.

I like them both more than most. I don't think either are bad films at all. I prefer SM3, but Returns is cool too, better than anything in the DCEU so far.
