Both shows are great but I have to give the edge to Superman because it had an actual animation budget.

It's not just that, a lot of the '90s DC shows budgeted for an orchestral score for each episode -- which gives them a timeless quality along with the animation. They stopped it with "Justice League" though.

As much as I love the X-Men and Spider-Man '90s shows, they have the obnoxious electronic scores that badly date the episodes.

Biggest Spider-Man fan. But they flexed years of Superman's comic book history through incredibly smooth 25 minute plots.

SM: TAS didn't even let him punch people. Superman and Batman TAs alike paved the way for modern action cartoons. So much so that they still return to that art style for animated films nearly a decade later.

We sadly can't say the same for the masterpiece that is SM: TAS. The art style was very well done for it's time and I'd love to see it revamped with modern technology.

For me. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends will always be, for me, the definitive Spider-Man animated series. Being an 80's child.

"Superman: The Animated Series" is getting a Blu-ray release in two months, replete with a new digital restoration and new bonus features.

Disney won't even do a complete DVD release of Spider-Man: The Animated Series... cheapskates. I wish they'd license out their content to specialty companies like Shout! who would do it right.

Be fair, Superman TAS is also a much, much *better* cartoon than Spider-man. :p
