Superman vs. The Elite (DC Universe movie)

these dtv are strange to me, would have been so much cooler if they found a way to integrate them into the series. ala the 90's xmen series.
 
What are you talking about? Unless I missed something the 90's X-Men series is not integrated with any other series or movies.
 
I'm really looking forward to this.

I'm a long-time mega Superman fan that has found--maybe you can all relate to this--that there are very few Superman stories I like a whole lot, or at least, that I think of as really great. There always seems to be something missing, like a really good fight (Superman For All Seasons, Superman: Kryptonite) a sense of the character's humanity and normalcy of his surroundings (All Star Superman, Superman: The Movie), a non-goofy Clark Kent persona (Geoff John's run) having Lois (Kingdom Come) or just plain good writing (Superman: For Tomorrow).

So this Superman story seems really promising too me. It's an action story. It's about Superman's values. It's a down-to-earth, human story. It has a central role for Lois. It really could end up being the best Superman story I've ever seen.

Of course, there is the chin.

i'm pretty sure he meant, how the 90's show had storylines from the comics in an ongoing animated series as opposed to having one story compressed into a 70min movie
 
I'm of mixed thought about this. I'm glad George Newburn is getting the starring role of Superman for one of these, at least "one of these" that is longer than a half hour short. Andrea Romano always casts solid actors for the roles while fulfilling WB Video's desire for some "stunt casting" of known people from TV shows and/or film. The character models are a bit iffy for me. While I am glad it isn't the same dude who seems to have designed half the character models for their output lately (JL:CO2E/YOUNG JUSTICE/JL: DOOM), this seems to be more fitting for a Hellboy DTV than Superman. Perhaps that's the point.

While the issue that this is paying homage to was a great done in one story, there is a part of me that wonders if this is scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of Superman stories. What, Alan Moore won't allow WB to animate "WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MAN OF TOMORROW?" Doing a KINGDOM COME animated DTV is too obvious? It does seem a bit random, to be honest.

On the upside, it will be good to see some newer Superman villains to be adapted into another medium. I've seen enough of Lex Luthor, Metallo, and Parasite to last me a lifetime.
 
I'd like to see some original stories for Superman and other heroes actually. I remember Adam Green (Hatchet, Spiral, Frozen) wrote an original script for an Aquaman DTV movie, but it never saw the light of day.

Considering that Geoff Johns, now a bigwig at DC Comics with at least some influence in their mass media department, has relaunched AQUAMAN into a Top 25 seller which outsells no end of Marvel books, it will be interesting if Warner Home Video will eventually cave on that.

On the other hand, WHV could simply and seriously plan to have a DTV schedule that consists of focusing on Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and Justice League material forever. The only variation in that pattern was "WONDER WOMAN" in early 2009, which the bigwigs weren't impressed by the initial sales of. Not OVERALL sales; in overall sales, it's made more cash than "GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT"; just INITIAL sales.

When the DTV's were initially announced, one was set for the TEEN TITANS: JUDAS CONTRACT story. Then WHV balked and said it had been too long since the TV show ended. Now with Titans shorts about to hit DC Nation, they could change their mind on that, too.

After next year DC can't issue any new Superman stuff. But they can continue to re-print the old stuff.

I am not sure of the details but I hope that means they can cross mediums and "re-issue" a pre-2013 book like "Whatever Happened to The Man of Tomorrow" in DVD format. There are a number of old Superman titles which could nicely be done as animated DVD re-issues.

Funny enough, the books you mentionned are actually what I consider the best Superman stories. And I think it is indeed very good, that an author accentuate on an aspect of the character. For example, I think All star Superman shows the "character's humanity" more than anything I have ever seen. But well, he is positive, and I have noticed that, often, people sees "humanity" only when the character is sad or dark or gritty, or unhappy negative things... it depends what you are looking for with Superman. And I think Superman does not have to do a "really good fight" to be in a good story, it just indicates me that it is a "must" for you.
And for Kingdom Come, Isee Lois everywhere. Because she is not hereanymore, he lost his balance. I find this very beautiful and human, and in the end, omnipresent. :dry:
 
Is SUPERMAN VS THE ELITE really the best title they could come up with? Even SUPERMAN: THE ELITE or something along those lines would be better.

Agree 100%. A JLA series could even have solo adventures for the heroes as X-Men and the JLU shows often did. Continuity and ongoing character development is so much better than these jarring oddly paced adaptations that we are getting. DTV's have been around years now and range from very poor to average at best.

WORLD PREMIERE THIS FRIDAY AT WONDERCON




Superman vs. The Elite, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies, will receive its World Premiere as WonderCon’s featured evening event for Friday, March 16 in Anaheim.

Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Home Video, the all-new, PG-13 rated film will screen at 6:30 p.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center Ballroom. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion amongst filmmakers and voice cast members. Award-winning comics writer Joe Kelly and versatile voice actor Robin Atkin Downes (Justice League: Doom) are among the confirmed panelists for Friday. Additional panelists will be announced as they are confirmed.

Kelly has adapted the story from his original 2001 DC Comics release, “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way?” into the taut, thrilling screenplay for Superman vs. The Elite. The single-issue comic, Action Comics #775, was lauded by Wizard Magazine as the “Greatest Superman Story of All Time,” and ranked the epic tale at No. 21 on its list of the “Top 100 Comics of the last 30 years.”

Sigh, if it wasn't for the ASM, Looper, and Abe Vampire Hunter panels, I would go to WonderCon on Friday rather than Saturday.

I'm really excited for Superman vs. The Elite, and I would've wanted to go to the panel afterwards. DCAU panels are friggin amazing.
