Superman initially 'losing' in his fights can also be shown that he will always be on the conservative side of using his powers, especially with new enemies.

He doesn't want to kill or even maim them, and he doesn't know what they can take, yet.

As the fight wears on, he learns more what is needed to stop the villain.

I'd like to see him and an equally powerful villain fight in the desert or a mountainous area, DBZ style.
getting punched through mountains, shattering them, or making half mile wide craters in the ground from the force of a body hitting it, etc.

I always liked the idea that Superman’s special abilities are innate. And this sets him apart from many other characters who rely upon gadgets or equipment. Consequently, imagery of Supes in a spacesuit or oxygen mask are personal pet peeves. Now, if a writer wants to limit Superman’s powers… fair enough. But then, own those limits and don’t set any action in space. OTOH, if the stories are served by including outer space locales, then just give Supes his Silver Age level of invulnerability. It’s one or the other as far as I’m concerned.

If I’m recalling Woman of Tomorrow correctly, Supergirl is able to survive in space for arbitrarily long periods of time (sans any life support gear). So it’d be weird of she had this capability but her cousin didn’t.

If sunlight is what gives him his powers, then he prolly doesn't need any sort of suit or help in breathing while in space.

I don't think that Kara should be able to either. She also has a ship in WoT so that already works in taking away that ability. It isn't going to be a 1:1 adaption anyway.

I mean I love some of the animated versions of Superman, but in most of them he literally couldn't give a f, about collateral damage at all. In this clip alone, he actually uppercuts Darkseid flying through 2 or 3 buildings sending him hurtling presumably out of the city & Superman actively seeks him out to drill him back into the middle of a main street in Metropolis. The level of destruction he was regularly involved in would make it incredibly easy to understand if Lex opposed Superman publically, why he'd have some level of support, it makes some of the destruction in MoS look like child's play.

That being said, part of the reason some of the big epic battles Superman has in comics, animated & live-action are so good is because they are centred in the middle of Metropolis with blows shattering windows, cracks in the ground, brickwork shaking in buildings, It helps raise the stakes if it's somewhere populated, I don't want to see every battle constantly end up in a desert or somewhere desolate.

I wouldn't mind this and we need a comic accurate Supes who is God like in strength

I don't think range is the issue, but time. Isn't it usually a case of how long the solar power he's absorbed into his cells can last when not replenishing constantly from the Sun?

In any event, there's other stars out there similar to our Sun ..... I'm assuming he can get similar power from them.

As I have said in an earlier post. Supes just need to get to the greatest speed he can around the sun using his own strength and the gravity of of the sun and let space take him the rest of the way.

The quick shot we saw of the godzilla sized kaiju getting punched and reeling backwards says superman is incredibly strong in this film.

Not to get too nerdy here, but it would take a kaiju of at least equal size to be able to knock it up and back like that.

I'm just guessing here, but the kaiju looks to be about 300' to 350' tall. Probably 80k to 100k tons in weight.
It Could even be more if it's more dense like Godzilla is , or less, if it's more like the PR kaiju.

So yeah, I'm gonna say supes strength level is at least at a 100,000 tons to be able to do that, Maybe even more.

Based on what we've seen from the trailers he looks no weaker than the previous iteration. Which I'm mostly fine with as I thought the character's power levels were fine in the previous incarnation.

JL season 2 onwards, Lois & Clark, Smallville (season 8 onwards) or MOS level powers would be just fine.
Fleicher cartoons, STAS and my adventures with Superman -as much as I love all of 'em- are way too weak. JL season 1 Superman and CW Superman (the one on Supergirl, haven't watched the S&L version) were both a joke.
The donnerverse Superman (Chris Reeve and Routh) is a tad too much.

Ultimately if you can find a way to challenge Superman legitimately (JL season 2) WITHOUT intentionally nerfing him (STAS, My adventures or JL season1) then you've got yourself a winner.

As I've already stated, having a superman that is literally planet moving strong means you have to have a villain who is just as strong for him to fight ( not taking into account kryptonite or magic, just pure brute strength )

I definitely don't want him nerfed like in stas, but he shouldn't be able to move planets either.

100,000 to 200,000 tons should be his limit.
That said, if he needs more power, let him get a quick supercharge by sun dipping that would put him in the 500,000 ton range, but it would only last for a few mins, then he would go back to the 100k to 200k ton range

And the reason why he doesn't constantly get a supercharge in the sun? well, they could say too much of it would be bad even for superman

I noticed in last trailer the shot of Superman catching a falling skyscraper/building and holding it while he floats mid-air. It’s a very obviously example where the pressure point (the wall he’s pushing against) should really cave in given the immense weight of the structure, so I wonder if this means Gunn is going with the comic lore of him having an aura that extends around anything he touches which essentially keeps it structurally intact. Including his clothes, which do seem to get dirty in the trailer but unless I’m mistaken, not damaged or ripped.
