Surfer stand-alone movie? From the LA Times June 13th ...

I don't think Surfer needs a stand alone. We got the gist in the FF sequel. General audiences don't need additional back story and origins. Surfer is pure spectacle and should be used as such. Keep Lawrence Fishburne if possible.
He needs to be used in an ensemble. In fact, GotG without a major player like that will come off as pretty lack luster to the public once the trailer hits. Silver Surfer gives instant credibility. Plus Thanos probably won't be the featured villain either, so Marvel isn't packing a huge punch in either the hero or villain department.

While I loved Fishburne as the voice of SS, I would rather they kept away from that POS FF movie totally. The whole "his board is his power" nonsense was pathetic and totally unneeded.

Give him his proper powers, and I also disagree about the Surfer being pure spectacle, guy has a lot of depth and story behind him.

Fishburne only "voicing" the character was a stupid choice.

^True he should have played him, although he would had to lose a lot of weight.

Well, I would hold off on the spinoff until only after he is featured in some more ensembles because he is not that popular as of yet and general audiences need a refresher since it has been so long since RotSS. You build up the character with a few ensemble films, then branch him out in a solo piece.

Similar to what WB may do with JL and ensuing spinoffs for Flash/WW. I don't think you work from the ground up every time because it is way too risky. If say Namor can be launched from a platform like FF/Avengers, similarly with Dr. Strange, those characters would not need solo movies for some time. That is the more practical approach rather than trying to do everything like Phase I every time.

Or they simply could've let Doug Jones do the voice. Fishburne doing the voice didn't get more people to see the movie.

Surely it would make sense for Silver Surfer to appear in Avengers 2 if Thanos is the main threat.

There was no significant difference between the voice Jones did during the shoot and the one Fishburne did in post...just some pointless "stunt casting"...
