Swedish Artist Faces Death Threats

My "Fundamentals" don't call for beheadings or human rights violations.

These are the Christian Fundamentals:

Teaching about Adultery

27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Now is this scary stuff or what??? :woot:

Well, considering the kind of terrifying recommendations "kind" ol' Jesus is giving here, you're damn right it is. And 99.9% of all Christian men of today, well if Jesus had his way, should be one-eyed amputees.:up:

31 “You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.[32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.

...wtf man? You HONESTLY believe this ******ed baloney to be TRUE Christian fundamentals? MARRY a divorced women...and be accused of committing adultery?

Teaching about Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’[r] and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies![s] Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. 46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends,[t] how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Well you sure as s**t ain't loving and praying for your enemies like Jesus told you to, chump (which if I might add, is something your lot REALLY knows how to scream out your lungs, but never ever act upon it, so either Jesus' advice is total trash or you are a two-faced fraud). But then again, of course you didn't. No one in their right minds would want to be a hippie one-eyed-amputated-adulterer just because his LORD told him to. :ninja:

 thoughts?

what makes this particular woman the "average every day Muslim woman"?
why do you continue to compare your religion with Islam?
are you unsure about loving God?
are unsure of his existence?

I'm sure somewhere in the Bible it says, "Thou shalt see that thy Lord is the lesser of two evils." It's the only way to explain how he overlooks the shameful truths of Christianity by finding something even worse.

Now is this scary stuff or what??? :woot:

didn't Falwell blame 9-11 on homosexuals and liberals?
I mean, blaming the death of thousands upon homosexuals? I mean, which is it? is it Islam or Gays?

Plus, I found it odd that you had passages about how bad revenge and how you must love your enemies.

don't you advocate war? don't you make threads about extremists and then talk as if ALL Muslims were the same?

you kind of contradict your doctrines don't you?

My "Fundamentals" don't call for beheadings or human rights violations.

These are the Christian Fundamentals:

The Sermon on the Mount

1 One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them.
The Beatitudes

3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,[a]
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,[b]
for they will be satisfied.
7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you[c] and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. Teaching about Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Teaching about the Law

17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven! Teaching about Anger

21 “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny.

Teaching about Divorce

31 “You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.[32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.
Teaching about Vows

33 “You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the Lord.’[o] 34 But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. 35 And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool. And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. 36 Do not even say, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. 37 Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.
Teaching about Revenge

38 “You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’[p] 39 But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. 40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile,[q] carry it two miles. 42 Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.

Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Irrelevant, religious fundamentalism is the great threat to freedom in the 21st century, like at how Bush has increased the power of the government in recent times. I cannot play favourites with fundamentalists

If I told you it was raining cats and dogs, what would you do? Get an umbrella or call th animal shelter?

Since you're a bible scholar, you'd already know that Rabbis like Jesus often taught spiritual truths in hyberbole to make strong points. He in no way promoted amputation and self mutilation. Sexual sin is very addictive and destructive. Jesus was saying that to get out of such practice would be akin to a radical amputation.....the things or persons that have you caught up must be "cut off" from your life.....and it may be painful as cutting off a part of your body.

Other hyperbolic statements are:
Faith of a Mustard seed.
Speak to the mountain and have fall into the sea.
Camel going thru the eye of the needle.
Straining at a gnat to swallow a camel.

All of these are figures of speech he used in teaching.

HOGANAS, Sweden (CNN) -- Swedish artist Lars Vilks says all he's doing is taking a stand in the name of artistic expression. But because of that stand, on this afternoon he's lying low -- on the ground, in fact -- looking for bombs under his car.
art.artist.cnn.jpg

Lars Vilks says if people don't like his artwork, then "don't look at it."

Al Qaeda has put a $100,000 price on his head and offered an extra $50,000 for anyone who murders him by slitting his throat after the eccentric artist and sculptor drew a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed as a dog.
"I don't think it should not be a problem to insult a religion, because it should be possible to insult all religions in a democratic way, " says Vilks from his home in rural Sweden.
"If you insult one, then you should insult the other ones."
His crude, sketched caricature shows the head of Prophet Mohammed on the body of a dog. Dogs are considered unclean by conservative Muslims, and any depiction of the prophet is strictly forbidden.
Vilks, who has been a controversial artist for more than three decades in Sweden, says his drawing was a calculated move, and he wanted it to elicit a reaction.
"That's a way of expressing things. If you don't like it, don't look at it. And if you look at it, don't take it too seriously. No harm done, really," he says.
When it's suggested that might prove an arrogant -- if not insulting -- way to engage Muslims, he is unrelenting, even defiant.
"No one actually loves the truth, but someone has to say it," he says.
Vilks, a self-described atheist, points out he's an equal opportunity offender who in the past sketched a depiction of Jesus as a pedophile.
Still one could argue Vilks should have known better because of what happened in Denmark in 2005, when a cartoonist's depictions of the prophet sparked violent protests in the Muslim world and prompted death threats against that cartoonist's life.
Vilks' cartoon, which was published in August by the Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda, hasn't reached that level of global protests, although it has stoked plenty of outrage.
Muslims in Swedendemanded an apology from the newspaper, which has stood by Vilks on his freedom of expression stand. Pakistan and Iran also lodged formal protests with Sweden.
One Swedish Muslim woman who lives just an hour-and-a-half drive from Vilks said she hopes to make good on the al Qaeda threat and slaughter Vilks like a lamb.

_______________________________________________________________

A Swedish muslim woman wants him "slaughtered" like a lamb??? A woman??? Your average everyday muslim woman thinks this way??

Look....I don't think he should be doing this stuff. It's just wrong. But he's got the right to do it. And he should still have the right to live without harm. He dogged out Jesus and no one attacked him.

Thoughts??

He's scumbag for doing this. But he should not be killed.

So wait you think the bible is the literal word of God, but you also think it is full of hyberbole? How can something full of hyberbole be taken literally?

  • Hypocrisy is the act of condemning or calling for the condemnation of another person when the critic is guilty of the act for which he demands that the accused be condemned
  • Delusion is commonly defined as a fixed false belief and is used in everyday language to describe a belief that is either false, fanciful or derived from deception

The only difference is that phrases like "faith of a mustard seed" "camel going through the eye of the needle" and whatnot are known figures of speech and are interpreted as such because they are a factual impossibility and when taken literally, just don't make any sense linguistically speaking. Same goes for "raining cats and dogs". It just doesn't happen. But Jesus when says that eyes must be gouged out, limbs must be chopped off, he could very well have meant that literally, because, well, it's very doable and looking at the fact that Jesus' manner of speech in that entire sermon is preaching an extreme version of existing "divine" laws concerning murder, adultery, anger and whatnot.

And let's just say for argument's sake that it IS hyperbole, on what basis are you taking OTHER parts of his sermon literally, where he says "Love thy enemies" "pray for those who persecute you" "go and be reconciled to that person" and blah blah blah, you know, the kind of things that sound all warm and kind that you people love to parade in everyone's faces? What is your proof that Jesus was NOT speaking in hyperbole THEN like he was before? Because if gouging out your eye and marrying divorced women makes one an adulterer are all hyperbole, on the same grounds I can also make the argument that Jesus didn't ACTUALLY mean for you to literally lo\ve and pray for your enemies, turn the other cheek and yadda yadda which completely throws your marketing slogans down the drain. And you know what's funny? It actually makes more sense since your kind of radical Christians never do that anyway either. You just LOVE to scream this "peaceful and loving" propaganda about Christianity, but as a seemingly devout Christian yourself, have actually done absolutely NOTHING to show for it. This kind of two-faced deception really sickens me, but I digress. :hyper:

Anyways, it seems like an all too convenient an excuse to simply dismiss anything that Jesus said that DOESN'T confirm to your banner of "love and peace" as figure of speech and hyperbole. Quite an exercise in selective reasoning if I must say so, old chap. It's the reason why people have stopped taking Christianity and the Bible seriously. It's like a buffet - every person just take what appeals to him/her and then throws away the rest. Go figure.:up:

This guy is an ass. He doesn't have the talent to make it as an artist legitimately so he gets his publicity insulting others purposely so he can say "Oooooh, I'm so controversal. Look at meeeeeee."

That could be said about nearly every single famous artist of the last 200 years. If an artist doesn't get people to look at him, how does he make business? And what does "mak[ing] it as an artist legitimately" really mean? Does all art have to be happy and nice and look realistic? If the only art that should be sold and shown be inoffensive art, you'd have to remove about a good half of all modern art (modern art, since its debut, has always been considered shocking and appalling by common society). There's even decent amount of classic art that would probably be thrown in the trash, too.

Celldog should consider reading Leviticus before he criticizes the Koran. The Bible's one of the most violent, sex riddled and disgusting books in human history. *waits to be slaughtered like lamb*

You mean to say that the Bible is the most awesome book ever written?! And you can get it for free?! I've been missing out!

Isn't it ironic? The very Christian god who threatens hell for fornication, adultery and indecency has absolutely NO PROBLEMS at all having lewd and vulgar material telling the stories of ****es and incest and that too in EXPLICIT detail in his HOLY book that is supposed to be called "the WORD of God". :ninja:

You make the bible sound way more interesting and cool than it is.
