Obviously.
The Christian doctrine goes further than that. Biblical God commands that no one should make a likeness of anything in the sky, on the Earth or in the Sea.
There's also a doctrine that forbids using the Lord's name in vain.
If Christians trampled little children in the streets and boycotted everyone who'd ever done those things, the Earth would be a cloud of dust floating in space.
Big distinction though. God acknowledges that the Earth is full of "Heathens". He expects his PEOPLE, his FOLLOWERS to obey his laws, and then it's left to him to judge those who disobey, at the Judgement.
The huge, terrifying problem with these easily-offended Muslims is that they, personally expect the "Heathen, disobedient infidels" to obey their God's law.
Christians are confronted with blasphemy everyday, everywhere.
You can buy Jesus *****s.
No death threats.
Well people who run Abortion clinics, for example, get scads of death threats primarily from Christian groups. A lot of the race based groups we talked about at least invoke church and God to fortify their arguments against whom they consider "heathens". I cannot speak for ***** manufacturers.
However this country, unlike others, doesn't reward extremism. By and large, and for better and or worse, majority rules in this country. It's just that our majority tends not to be extreme since our Government does a reasonably good job of providing services and competent leadership (not always...but mostly).
For example, compare Bush with Russia's string of leadership and Bush looks like a breathe of fresh air. Putin, Yeltsin (who wasn't
as bad) were both extremely corrupt and in Russia "they don't make distinctions between cops and criminals".
Also this country, while not the best at this, does reward discourse and discussion as a means of resolving conflicts.
Remember how they said what we did in Iraq would produce more terrorists. It's because we blew their infrostructure and stability to smitherines, not because of their religion. Same with a lot of those countries in the Middle East, who deal with the horrors of war every single day.
Perhaps your right that people selectively read or don't read the Bible, but you also have to consider the reason for that. Perhaps it's because they view the Bible through the eyes of a "free and fair" society. One that claims to value human rights and puts them as our highest philosophical virtue.
So really Christianity, which has easily been as bad as those you described, has nothing to do with it.
