SYFY ANNOUNCES CASTING OF NEW ACQUIRED SCRIPTED SERIES DARK MATTER

MELISSA O’NEIL (LES MISERABLES), MARC BENDAVID (BITTEN), ANTHONY LEMKE (THE GOOD WITCH), ALEX MALLARI JR. (ROBOCOP) AND JODELLE FERLAND (TWILIGHT) WITH ROGER CROSS (THE STRAIN) AND ZOIE PALMER (LOST GIRL)

DARK MATTER BEGINS PRODUCTION IN TORONTO JANUARY 7

NEW YORK – December 18, 2014 – Syfy today announced casting of the new acquired scripted series Dark Matter, which will feature Melissa O’Neil (Broadway production of Les Miserables), Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), Alex Mallari Jr. (Robocop) and Jodelle Ferland (Twilight) with Roger Cross (The Strain) and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl).

The series begins production in Toronto on January 7.

Created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie (executive producers and writers of the Stargate franchise), and developed with Prodigy Pictures (Lost Girl, XIII), the 13 one-hour episodes are based on the graphic novel Dark Matter by Mallozzi and Mullie, published by Dark Horse Comics.

Dark Matter will premiere on Syfy in Summer 2015, joining Syfy’s stable of acquired international and domestic co-productions ranging from the hit series Z Nation to popular programs such as Lost Girl, Bitten and Continuum, and the upcoming series Olympus.

Executive producers are Jay Firestone, Joseph Mallozzi, Paul Mullie and Vanessa Piazza. The series will be distributed internationally by Endemol Worldwide Distribution.

In Dark Matter, the crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.

Founded in 2006 by Jay Firestone and later joined by executive producer Vanessa Piazza, Prodigy Pictures leads the way in the production of quality television, film, and cross-platform media. Prodigy is responsible for the critically-acclaimed television series Lost Girl, which has electrified viewers around the world and amassed a cult-like following. Lost Girl just wrapped production on its final season. Prodigy’s other credits include indie horror The Dark Stranger and the original television miniseries XIII as well as XIII: The Series.

I've been seeing ads for this and Killjoys recently. Of the 2, I was favoring Killjoys because of Aaron Ashmore, but I didn't realize Travis from Continuum was in this, so I'll definitely check this out too. Just watching the 3rd season of Continuum now, but I guess his appearance here doesn't bode well for Travis' survival huh? lol

Actually Roger Cross (Travis) will be in the final season Continuum.

Thank GOD Syfy is coming back with so many new sci-fi shows!!!

I know I can't wait for The Expanse and Killjoys plus the return of Defiance.

they'd really make MY day if they filmed a two-hour Alphas movie and give myself and all the other fans some closure...

I enjoyed the premiere. Cool twist at the end. The promo for this season looks very promising.

that twist at the end did not see coming looking forward seeing more along with premiere of Killjoy

So far, enough to keep me watching for a few more episodes.

My thoughts while watching the first episode:

Nice design on the ship.

Oh god the line readings are terrible

Why am I not watching red dwarf instead?

Everyone is unlikeable

Why do they need weapons on an empty ship?

I so want to turn this off

Android is kinda pretty

Im guessing the big season twist is they are murderous criminals

Why does the women have skimpy clothes?

The mysteriousness is so boring. Again - why isnt this red dwarf?

There is no soul anywhere in this show

The angry dick needs to die. He is utterly ridiculous.

'We're heading into orbit. You're about to go down and look for answers' I hope someone got fired for that line.

Oh no. Its a f**** every-planet-looks-like-an-industrial-complex show!

Yeah sure dont bother to introduce anyone properly. Just rush through everything.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THEM??

Rothgar... Is this in the Elder Scrolls Cinematic Universe?

HA! I knew it lol

This was terrible overall.

Stargate sg1 (lots of sci fi tv for that matter) started out pretty rough and it turned into one of my favorite tv shows so ill stick with this.

The show has potential and since there really aren't all that many alternatives for space based sci-fi I´m definitely going to continue watching.

I really enjoyed the premiere for this, the twist reminded me of the original Total Recall. So i'm curious to how they develop it through the season but I'm totally in for now.

Premiere was alright, nothing amazing and I hope that most of the story will take place in space.
One point for the Captain's belly shirt I guess.

Roger Cross has to be one the busiest actors in Canada.

In recent years he has had semi recurring roles in Continuum, The Strain, Motive and Arrow

I said the same thing to myself lol He was in the final season of Eureka too.

I still remember him as Curtis on 24. Still hate the way he out in that series. Damn you Jack! :cmad:

I can go back further on this Roger Cross topic because i first came to appreciate him in First Wave as Joshua.

So far i'm really enjoying it. Good story, characters are growing on me. I'm not a huge fan of the android but maybe she'll improve.

Liking it so far. If I were to sell this show to friends who like Firefly, Stargate etc. How should I pitch It?

Nice twist at the end of this week's episode. I like how it's progressing as the mystery continues to unfold. I don't know who to trust. lol

Another good episode. Like the twist at the end. Clones or Face/off times 6?

I've got no clue right now about the twist. And I like it.
