Tangled Web: 'Spider-Man 3' Re-Shoots Planned, James Franco Reveals

Sony is probably worried about what happened with Superman Returns, so they call the director up and say, "We need more action."

Sam looks at his edit and says, "Yeah, I can use more Franco here."

You know you wonder if there's someone on these boards that reports back to the studios or directors just so they can get some good ideas.

BTW, I totally agree with everyone on Franco's mask. Who knows he might get a new one.

Looks like Franco will be a Goblin with a Goblin mask afterall.Looks like Raimi/Franco/and Sony realized how stupid the paintball mask was.

Or what if Raimi has decided to hold off of Venom fighting in this movie, and having the Goblin get the action scenes that Venom would of had.Like the final battle could be spidey vs the Goblin/Sandman,then somewhere in the battle Harry decides to help Peter and dies.

but if it isnt him, then who is it??? mebbe he's being a bit misleading- i.e its a cgi shot so it isn't him....
as for "more action" reshoots...I dunno- isnt that a warning sign that he movie isnt on par with the others? its a thought at least.....

Maybe theyll put more venom in there, and definately more franco. The disfigurement to harrys face would make him wearinga goblin mask moredigestable...

It's good to know that there will still be some surprises....

Sounds like great news!

You can never go wrong with "more action"!

Honestly, it woudl be incredibly stupid for someoen working with the movie to NOT check boards and stuff to see what the fans want. Of course they cannot incorporate everything, but get a good idea what would make it more likeable to the fans, thus making their movie beigger and make more money and whatnot. i know if i ever direct a movie based on a superhero in soem distant future i will be trolling these boards so i can give the fans what they want.

I don't understand why you people think that Franco being back on set for re-shoots means a cooler goblin mask.

By the same logic we can assume they will be going with a much cooler Gwen mask. Which is good, the one that looked like Opie's daughter was far too lifelike.

Oh wait, maybe the sandman will be getting a cooler full face mask.

You guys seem to think "re-shoot" means "re-write". Re-shoot could be anything from " This scene needs to happen on a rainy day, it just doesn't seem sad enough on a sunny day, we need to re-shoot it 'cause it's not lit for rain, and we can't manip it to look rainy with the way it was originally lit " to " The camera bounces too much on the footage we shot for the webslinging scenes so we had to CGI it, but now there is this really sweet camera mount that will let us shoot it for real so we're gonna."

Re-shoot is generally a technical issue. Added scenes are not "re-shot".

And that will be the death of film making. Why hire a director at all if you are going to simply make the film based on popular opinion?

The director is there to "share their vision" to show us what they see. It is their interpretaion of the script that makes the movie what it is. One person's vision manifest 40 feet high.

I'm gonna guess you're a young-un so you've probably never had to deal with things decided by a board or group of people. I'm gonna let you in on a secret, the more people directly involved in decision making, the dumber the decisions get.

The old saying that "Too many cooks spoil the broth" is the absolute truth. I REALLY hope Sam Raimi is totally ignoring these/all boards until he's done.
Sony is a diff story all together, you KNOW they have legions of folks trying to figure out the best way to sell this movie, unfortunately WE aren't the folks they are figuring out how to sell it to. They KNOW we are coming no matter what.

I like you already

Good thread - cool find. More action is better.

he said a new trailer should be on the way soon, awesome

More action? But I think there is enough action in the movie.

I hope Raimi isn't going to make 3 hours movie  :(

I do

Something's not clear to me in the interview. Will cast members other than just Franco be involved in these re-shoots?

I'd like them to really change this terrible suit.

But I don't want Harry to have more action in the final battle. He should just come and save Pete in time. As for Venom, he should better take the whole final battle at the end

I assume yes, but im not positive

I really doubt that they'll change the suit. You people are way too optimistic about this small piece of news, the reshoots are just for "more action".

well said, very good point:up:

Tangled Web: 'Spider-Man 3' Re-Shoots Planned, James Franco Reveals

Director Sam Raimi has put out call for 'more action,' actor says.

LOS ANGELES — There are certain things that every good geek knows to be true, like the fact that Spider-Man's secret identity is Peter Parker, or or that the "Spider-Man" movies have pulled in more dough than an army of overworked pizza makers, or that "Spider-Man 3" recently completed theaters next summer.

Uh ... strike that last one.

"The next thing I'm shooting?" series star James Franco said over the weekend. "Re-shoots on 'Spider-Man.' "

Revealing that director Sam Raimi has put out the call for "more action," Franco said he's being called back to the set of the blockbuster. "Probably next month," he added.

Members of the flick's cast, including Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, along with franchise newcomers Thomas Haden Church (as beach-bashing baddie the Sandman), Topher Grace (as alien threat Venom) and Bryce Dallas Howard (as Parker paramour Gwen Stacy), recently arrived triumphant at San Diego's Comic-Con to screen footage for fans (see " 'Spider-Man 3' Cast Confirms Love Triangle, Death, Soul-Sucking Costume"). Franco said he regretted being unable to make the trip along with his co-stars, and seemed shocked by much of what was revealed there.

Despite the widely downloaded teaser trailer that shows a black-and-green-suited Franco riding a glider (see it for yourself right here), and Raimi's own admission that Franco's Harry Osbourn will be "somewhere between" the comic book characters of Green Goblin and Hobgoblin, the tight-lipped actor refused to admit that Harry's long-simmering angst turns him into a villain. "You saw me in a suit?" Franco asked, feigning incredulity. "I don't think that was me."

Franco also seemed surprised by Raimi's assertions that Harry's story line will conclude with the third film (the actor's contract expires after "Spider-Man 3"). "It's really news to me. It's actually breaking my heart to hear that my character is being rounded up in this movie," the 28-year-old Franco said, half-kidding. "God, I think I'm going to cry."

Insisting that Church and Grace "bring amazing acting and great talent" to the third installment of the franchise, Franco insisted that he's eager to see the finished product. "The journey is much different than the final product. So when we actually see the movies, it's so much different than how it felt making it. I'm sure I'll be very happy."

Revealing that he expects a new trailer to be on the way soon, Franco said the new flick will offer fans plenty of action, as well as an opportunity to see the young thespians stretch out their acting muscles. "It's not that there's less acting in [a 'Spider-Man'] movie. I mean, it has the same number of acting scenes as any other movie," Franco said. "It's just that the action takes so much longer, so it feels like it's all action. Really, in a way, it's two months worth of regular scenes, which is what a typical movie has, and then we had to do four months of action."

Now, like a superhero's tights after an all-you-can-eat buffet, it seems that Sam Raimi is going to stretch those four months into just a little more.

See everything we've got on "Spider-Man 3."

Cool. Good call by Raimi. Obviously it shows (not that it doesn't already with the first two films) that Raimi cares about story rather than substance. Maybe Raimi all the hullabaloo on the net about Goblin's costume sucking and he is going to change the costume and maybe with the reshoots the battle between the two ex-friends will be even more heated that we'll get a "Revenge of the Sith"-climatic battle.

The final fight is Venom vs Spidey, not GG2 vs Spidey.

And I'm more then okay with that.

no disrespect, but i dont think we could get a ROTS climatic battle because the obiwan vs anakin/vader fight had 5 movies to hype it. i do think SM3 will definitely have its climactic battle, not better or worse than ROTS, just different.

anyway, i dont know why i just said all that because i agree with you and hope its awesome!

when franco says soon I think he means like 2 months.

I thought the "'battle royale" consisted of spidey vs venom and sandman then harry joins spideys side

It does. But after that its Venom vs Spidey.
