The Dark Knight TDK Casting Sides

Ok I think I was wrong earlier when I said that I thought Randolph might've been Gordon. The Mayor says this:

ENGEL - And how's Randolph doing? We're hearing a lot of different stuff -

MAYOR - Mike, please don't fuel people's paranoia. Randolph's alive, and looking forward to getting back on the job.

ENGEL - Wish him a speedy recovery. God knows we need him (...)

Someone probably pointed that out earlier, but now I get to re-read all of the scenes with "Randolph" and picture Dent instead! Oh how the plot thickens.

AWESOME!

What I wanna figure out is who Rossi is? Is he just a no-name henchman for Maroni? It seems like he isn't because he says he is the brains of the outfit. So does that mean Rossi is an equal partner to Maroni? Who could he be then? Perhaps Roman Sionis?

I'm confused as to how people are able to be "disappointed" with the dialogue. How? What does it lack?

I'm kinda disappointed. In my opinion the dialogue for the most part seems like garbage. Meh.

Dude, how can you dislike ANYTHING about this? If that's what you consider bad dialogue, what do you consider *good* dialogue, pray tell? Frankly I have zero problem with anything I read in these sides. In fact I loved them.

What the hell?

I completely agree about the dialogue. It's too dry and 'to the point'. I want more of the 'Stephen's' side dialogue. The dialogue in that is brilliant! The Joker randomly coming out with 'How many of youre friends have i killed'. The line about knowing 'the freaks like you who would enjoy it' and then the painful 'you killed six of them'. The dialogue flows more smoothly in that scene.

This... is.... the.... greatest... thread... ever.
I was away for the weekend, just got back couple of hours ago, thought I'd check if there was anything going on.
OMG.
I may be a bit late for this but
*goes down on one knee*
Miranda, will you marry me?

I understand some people's unhappiness with the dialogue but they have to remember that the are reading it off the page instead of hearing someone deliver those lines.

Take this scene from Batman Begins (p. 87), for example:

INT. ABANDONED REFECTORY, ARKHAM ASYLUM -- CONTINUOUS

The Thugs DRAG Rachel into the room. The inmates stare
blankly, clearly drugged. Crane turns Rachel's reluctant
face to look up at his mask. She GULPS PANIC BREATHS-

CRANE
Who knows you're here?

Rachel SHAKES her head.

CRANE (CONT'D)
WHO KNOWS?!!

Rachel PULLS away, BURYING her head in her arms.

THE LIGHTS GO OUT.

The Thugs look around, unnerved. Crane PULLS OFF his mask.

CRANE (CONT'D)
(fascinated)
He's here.

FIRST THUG
Who?

CRANE
The batman.

The Thugs exchange nervous glances.

FIRST THUG
What do we do?

CRANE
What anyone does when a prowler comes
around.
(off look)
Call the police.

The First Thug looks at crane.

SECOND TECHNICIAN
You want the cops here?

CRANE
At this point, they're irrelevant.
But the batman... he has a talent
for disruption. Let the cops wrangle
him.

CRANE (CONT'D)
Force him outside, the police will
take him down.
(indicates inmates)
Get them out of here.

This is one of the best scenes in the movie but it sounds kinda hokey-ish if read off the page. Add the score, the actors' expression, the delivery (The bat...man), the set, and it changes everything.

Exactly. A ****ing Shakespeare speech can sound corny on the page, but like aural gold when delivered by Laurence Olivier.

Sorry that my opinion is different then yours .

Besides whos to say there wont be anymore lines like the 'Stepens' excerpt? We're only getting small parts of the script.

Man, i'm sorry, but that's always been one of my biggest pet peeves. Someone offers there opinion, someone else questions that opinion, and then the only response is basically "it's my opinion deal with it". We all get it's your opinion, and we get you have a right to disagree, but it doesn't mean we cant discuss it on a messageboard for crying out loud.

All he did was ask why you didn't like it, followed by voicing his confusion for your viewpoint. All he did was ask for clarification. I'm with him, I really dont see what's to dislike about what little of a script we were given. Sure I noticed a few typos ("2 or 3 or three casualties")?!?, but obviously the actors aren't gonna read that in the final film. And this stuff always sounds bad on the page. Once you get the actors in there reading it, they'll see if it sounds bad, and make a few changes on the set. Happens all the time.

"He said he would make the voices go away. He said he would replace them with bright lights. Like Christmas."

Alot of this stuff sounds hokey to me. Nothing I've read makes me think "This is going to be awesome." The only reaction I have it "Eh.." I really don't have anything else to explain.

Damn...if they pull back the camera during the action scenes, this might be the best comic experience of all time.

I just hope miranda dosent get in any trouble for posting this stuff. She gets mad props for delivering when LR and BOF couldnt...

That was one of my favorite lines :(

Agreed. Just like something I'd expect one of the vicitms to say.
The best thing about what I've read is how it really sounds like stuff off the page. Even minor characters have cracking lines. It is dark, and multi-layered, and may just turn out to be the greatest comic-book movie ever. If the rest of the screenplay is in this vein. THEY'VE NAILED IT.
Now, if they have a quick reference to Big Bad Harv....:woot:

I dont see how Miranda could get in trouble really. You can post information you, or your buddy, has paid for.

I may be forming my own Big Bad Norm with all this violence I am having to repress over that last comment.

Did I mention I hope to practice Law? :ninja:

Dont worry, Norm, those few pages seem to indicate a very TLH-ish Dent. Look at the scene for "Evans".

"As soon as they hear you got pinched, they're going to kill you."

He pretty much does this exact same thing in TLH, with those Irish brothers. No real threat or anything, just kinda hinting at a desire to turn them loose and let the mob deal with him/them. It's not an outright split personality from the get-go, which is just dumb.

Also, if he is indeed Gannon, then he's a supporter of Batman.

You're like Pavlov's dog. Ring the Big Bad Harv bell, Norm starts growling.
I'll stop, I'll stop.
Love the Miranda appreciation thread. 'Bout time.
Just don't practice in the city - could get to you and cause you to turn to the dark side.

THAT'S what that scene reminded me of! Great stuff, just what we wanted.
So far, it's all good.
I just like taking the piss out of Norm about TAS Two-Face, I know hoe much he hates the character. All good fun.

what a thread. nice work miranda, as always! THis truly is one epic story! and DARK too! makes begins look PG by comparison.

my only concern is that the joker seems TOO mysterious and in the background; i realize we only have a few pages but i hope his flamboyance shows at some point.

I wouldn't have any worries. Like you say, it's only a few pages. We won't know the dialogue between Joker and Bats unless there's a full-blown script leak. So far, so very, very good.
