Hey, I just realized, no where on the card does it say Movie Masters, just The Dark Knight.

So, where does this term to describe this line of action figures exactly come from?

Or is it just made up, like the story of the so-called "rare" and "recalled" Joker figure from this awesome line of figures?

Can anybody here give a logical explination for this name?

And why the Joker was so ****ing hard to find, even before the movie came out?

And now the Joker figure is everywhere?

simmer down, Francis. why is it so important that there be an explanation to the name "Movie Masters"? does it really matter where the name came from? the name is probably unofficial and used to differentiate these figures from the basic figures.

and why was the Joker figure so hard to find? because a) figures were packed 4 to a box, with 2 Batman figures, 1 Joker, and 1 Joker Thug in each box and most stores only get a few boxes in their weekly shipment, b) because The Joker is Batman's most popular villain and c) because Heath Ledger's death made these figures very desirable to some of the more morbid souls out there. so because of all those factors, fans who knew when the figures were being released (on May 1st, btw) went to their local stores first thing in the morning to buy them. also, opportunistic scalpers have been showing up first thing in the morning to buy them up too, then they go to eBay and sell them for huge profit. and you also get people who are called "headhunters" who pay off stockboys to hold onto certain toys for them. so even if the store received a shipment of Joker figures, some never even made it to the shelf because some stockboys were paid by these headhunters to hold onto the figure for them.

and at some point, there was supposedly an "unofficial recall" made by Mattel that stores had the option of being involved in. some stores sent their shipments back and gave refunds to customers, some didn't. production of the figures was apparently briefly halted and shipments were sent back because Mattel had "quality concerns" they felt needed to be addressed. since then, these concerns were rectified and more figures were sent out along with the second wave of figures, explaining why the figure is easier to find now. at first, some believed that Mattel had issues with The Joker figure's "scary" facepaint and the harder plastic used to make the figure's knife accessory and they wanted to "soften" the paint to make the figure look less threatening and use a softer plastic for the knife. but apparently, the facepaint is completely the same as the first wave of figures and the only real difference is that the newer wave has holes in the side of the package, where the first wave of the figure doesn't.

did you get all that?

oh, and you insult us in a very condescending way by claiming that we aren't fans because we don't know what Mattel was doing or why, and yet you appear to insinuate you're more of a fan than us even though you don't know either? where have you been for the past four months since the figure was released, or the months before its release when these Movie Masters figures were generating buzz? and YOU think YOU'RE more of a fan than us? come down off that high horse, sir.

The "quality control" issue was related to the general recall at the time of a number of plastic toy products manufactured abroad because of fears of toxic material. Mattel issued a statement saying they were confident in the manufacture of these items but gave stores the option of a recall if there was too much consumer concern.

gee, thanks, and by the way my name isn't Francis

I was'nt claiming we were'nt all fans,
I just wanted a simple answer.
Not 4 paragraphs.
Oh, and BTW, I do happen to work in retail, (Target)
and the Joker was never recalled from my store.

Summer School?

might be. it's just one of the many vague references i managed to pull out of the recesses of my mind that made me chuckle.

well some things required more than a simple answer. everybody was pretty confused with what Mattel and the retailers were doing. and to my knowledge, Target didn't even have the Movie Masters until about a month or so ago. i don't even think they got the first wave that was released on May 1st and only got the second wave. Walmart and Toys R Us had Wave 1 and Target was inexplicably left out. Target didn't even start getting Movie Masters until Wave 2 was released. but on the bright side, a Target-exclusive Movie Masters Bat-Pod is being released in the fall.

Movie Masters was the name used for the figs before they were released.

It says Movie Masters on the description on the back of the box

yeah,it was a voluntary recall...what happened was this:for WHATEVER reason (and believe me,when I die and -hopefully :wow: - meet God,i'm asking Him why) Toys R Us had a problem with the figures....actually,they had a problem with quite a few of Mattel's figures...and did their own recall of the figures and sent them back to Mattel due to "quality control issues" ...now,when other stores like Wal-Mart got ahold of this info, they assumed the worst (lead-paint,someone choked on something, etc.) and also recalled their entire stock as well...and some chains, like Target and K-B,just kept their stock in the warehouses til the mess blew over...this happened toward the end of May,and there are many stories of people finding a Batman figure here or there that got left behind, and the register would not ring it up,came back as a recalled item...then towards the end of June shipments started coming back out again from Mattel to stores, though at the time it was the Wave 2 cases (BB,Scarecrow,Joker),since they were never part of the recall they just came out right on time...a couple of weeks later the Wave 1 cases started to hit again as well,as the reshipments started arriving..and to this day,the only real difference between the initial shipments and the re-shipped ones are that instead of a little pinhole on the back of the card, they now have 7 little holes running down the sides of the plastic bubble....my question is this:

Wave 2 came with the holes in the bubble already there...now,did they do a super-fast lightning fix in the factory to put the holes in there...or were they suppossed to have the holes all along, and the initial Wave 1 shipments without them were a mistake that Mattel was forced to fix?

Thanks for clearing this up.
But if the figures were "voluntarily" recalled, how did 100's show up on e-bay at the same time?
Now they're out there (in somewhat random supply) and the same scalping **** is happening on e-bay, comparing wave 1 to wave 2.
IMHO, just re-packaged wave 1's...BB, Joker and Scarecrow. Wave 2 I think does not include the Joker...am I right, or did I miss something?
Thanks gain :)

The Joker doesn't show up on the back of the cards of Wave 2. However, he could be part of the revision wave. All this terrible business is about to be repeated all over again....just wait until the Two Face figure is released. You'll see, I'll show ya. :joker: lol

Joker was in Wave 2....he's not on the back of the package but he was there (now with airholes!:yay:) case breakdown was 2X "Begins" Batman,1 X Joker,1 X Scarecrow.....

they showed up because a lot of people (myself included) bought them before the recall began...they came out May 1st,but the recall wasn't til the end of May,so there was time for lots to be sold, not to mention the standard backroom practices involving stockpeople...

the case breakdown's so far are:

Wave 1:

2 X TDK Batman
1 X Joker
1 X Gotham City Thug

Wave 2:

2 X "Begins" Batman
1 X Scarecrow
1 X Joker

Wave 3: (these just started showing up now)

2 X TDK Batman
2 X Joker

Revision Wave:

1 X TDK Batman
1 X Joker
1 X Scarecrow
1 X "Begins" Batman

...PLUS Wave 1 cases are shipping again as well (now with more airholes!:woot:)....so it can get quite confusing, but as far as i know all the case breakdown's are floating around out there now except for the Revision Wave with 1 of each figure...

Thanks for clearing this up.

it's going to happen on these guys for awhile, now with the "rarer" no-holes bubbles VS. the newer shipments with the bubbles...it's all just nonsense to me,but i know a lot of completists out there who want both kinds...wait until the "new poses" figures start hitting and you have THREE variations of the same 2 figures:

without Airholes
With Airholes
with New Pose

....these will be a fixture on E-bay for at least another month or 2...

The *******s on ebay are going to have a field day with all this. If small things like this cause an uproar, just imagine when big things start happening in the line again. It's gonna be May all over again. Oh boy.
Already, I think i'm going to have to sleep outside of a store to get the 5 inch Two Face that's going to be coming out soon. Well, soon I hope. :csad:

yeah,it won't be good...with Two-Face,Firefly,and Deathstroke coming for the 5" line,and a Two-Face,Ra's,and Batpod for the MM line....

yeah, not good at all...i'm hoping Target puts the Batpod for sale online,at least that way i can actually get one!

Kinda sucks that it's a Target exclusive, I've gotta go for a two hour drive to get to one of those. But I don't care...either way I will have one. lol

More revisions = ebay $calper$.

****ing ******* *****uckers.

Sorry, I have alot of anger issues, esp. w/ ebay.

Great, more figures/revisions we can't find.
And I work at Target, and we're out of stock on the MM figures.
But the 5 inch kiddie figures are peg warmers.

It's going to suck...and there's very little we can do about it, besides not to buy from the scalping *******s. On the bright side there Hulk, if you are into the 5 inch line, you could be one of the first out of all of us to own a Two Face.

The 5 inch line?
You're joking, right?
Have you seen them?
Looks like ****....IMHO.

E-bay just pisses me off to no ****ing end.
How dare they charge $100 for a so-called rare or hard-to-find figure...and some *******er wanted $1000 for a Joker figure, who the **** does he think he is? $1000!!!!
I hope they choke on them and die horrible, miserable deaths. *****ucking *******ers.

End of rant :whatever: **** **** **** **** **** ****

Two-Face will be hot,at least at first,for the 5" line...Joker for that was red-hot at first,too...

it's going to get better...it is...it'll just take time...at first scalpers were buying these up because of the noteriety of Heath's death...then when Wave 2 hit it was right before the movie,so they were scalped massively due to anticipation for that....now,they're being scalped because they're coming out again and they know collector's want to try to get them again...by October these will be pegwarming...E-Bay prices are already going down as the f*****s are realizing that they can't get top dollar for these anymore as more and more people are finding them in stores....Mattel already said they will continue to ship cases of these to all who oerder them for the rest of the year and early next year....add in more of teh TRU-exclusive 2-packs coming out,and everyone will have their chance...only one that will remain hard to find for awhile yet is the Goon,as he's still only shippin in Wave 1 cases, while the rest are spread out through multiple case revisions and the 2-packs...but i've hear rumors that TRU will be getting an exclusive with the Goon that might take care of that!
