Hello all,

With the Dark Knight being one week away from its Australian release date, I thought it would be a fitting time to make this thread. I wasnt sure which area to place it in, but decided to go with the Spoilers forum purely because a lot of what happened happened in this forum, even though the Viral forum had more than its fair share of activity too.

As my signature once stated, I am not a massive movie buff, but The Dark Knight is a film I have anticipated Day in, Day out. Of all places, this board has been a haven for me and no doubt many other TDK fans to come to for information on the latest developments; a second home. And many have helped here to make this a better place.

So- to all the die-hard fans out there- thank you. To all the people working hard posting pics, videos- thank you. To all the people keeping the virals going with fantastic efforts- thank you. To all the mods keeping things tidy- thank you. You have made this board a better place in the lead up in what is to be an unbelievable movie.

With that said, what is the point of this thread?

No doubt, there has been a lot of commotion and hysteria and hype all accumulating up to the film's release. I thought it would be a good idea to pause, take a deep breath, sit back, look behind us, and reminisce by posting your highlights on the ups and downs on all of the memories generated by the wonderful people here on the SHH forums- for what has been a wild roller-coaster ride for us all- and we haven't even seen the film yet.

So, I present to you:

THE SHH TDK REFLECTION THREAD- Aka "Remember When"?

  • Remember when everyone was jumping up and down with the tiniest morsel of info from the Chicago set reports?
  • Remember the days of Rory the pumpkin?
  • Remember the days when a forum member (who's name escapes me), said he will wear a skirt if the first trailer description was legit, and it actually was
  • Getting rick rolled on trailer links?
  • The first time you saw the first trailer bootleg and were taken aback by the first proper footage from the film
  • Looking for the most obscure, drilled down, out of place, random thing in any viral website in the hope that we have missed something that might lead to another trailer :oldrazz:
  • Remember the frustration of trying to get on this forum when a major event happened?
What are YOUR most favorite memories from this forum in the lead up to TDK?

Great idea for a thread..

I remembered getting banned a bunch over the last year..

I don't remember finding the bootleg trailer because I was one of the people who went to see I AM LEGEND at midnight, but I do remember the lights dimmed for the trailer and as it started everyone clapped like 80-90% knew what was about to come..

I think the most overlooked thing to have happened in the last year will be the Joker-ized reels of the second theatrical trailer that were given out.. People tend never to mention that.

I remember when Noirman made everyone soil their pants with excitement.

I remember the uproar when this image was released:

I remember ALMOST getting that damn cake.. i was so close! I was in the taxi haha.

i remember the first time the "why so serious" voice clip was released and a lot of people thought it was batman or harvey haha. I loved it... And i remeber defacing all my one dollar bilsl for that reason.. but of course wuld lead to nowhere, mindless fun.

I remember some of the very first viral games and juts being blown away THEN... it was over a year ago and i couldnt even comprehend how big this was... i mean, seeing a parade of people with joker face paint, more than a year away from release.. it set in how HUGE this was going to be... and it is..

constantly over 300 people in this board... and i remember.. going over to iron mans board... what, 5 or 6 peopel max? hahaha and this was a year ago too... that alone gave me chills.

I remember I was in a Joker mood after watching the first trailer filled with Mr J .................I went out to shop and wanted to yell WHY SO SERIOUUUUUUUUS ????? to the people around me !!:hehe::hehe:

I'll never forget rory the pumpkin, thats when I really got into the virals :D

I remember the uproar when this image was released:

joker.jpg

To be fair, I still don't like that picture.

But we can go even further back! Remember the venomous casting debates? Remember Bettany, Dammit! Or Glover, Dammit! Or Hulme, Dam-hang on, who is this guy again? Remember Ledgolas?

ahhhh.:yay:

I'll never forget watching crappy bootleg/chicago set clips trying to get a glimpse of what the Joker looked like.

i remember when people were saying the joker doesn't wear make up at all, instead he only wears masks, and somehow one of his clown/joker-look-a-like masks melts on his face!! in which the image of joker is then permanently stuck to his face, with a permanent rubber joker smile..that was pretty funny! :woot:

I also remember the night where we expected the WW footage..........one year later he's here !:woot::woot:

I remember when people were so up in arms and pissed off about Heath Leger being cast as the Joker. How things have changed. I remember when people were saying Johnny Depp, Crispin Glover, Lachy Hulme, Paul Bettany, etc. Who knew Leger would surprise us so much. It is bittersweet, indeed.

HA! that was Stotch, doubting that I saw the trailer.

About the time I signed up here, there was that big batch of leaked pics

I remember people thought jake Gyllenhaal was going to be Harvey Dent and i remember reading jokes saying it was going to be a brokeback mountain 2.

Also that fake Joker picture that was a combination of Heath and Orlando Bloom, that was done in photoshop, everyone thought it was real, and people thought it was to much like the crow because of the thin scars over his eyes and mouth.

Edit this was it :woot:

I remember the day Heath Ledger passed away.......:csad::csad::csad:

heath_ledger_hommage.jpg

i actually thought Ledger deaths was just a joke, and i think a lot of people thought that too, like a viral marketing thing that just went way to far..

i remember the first thread pertaining to his death was locked because no one believed it.

i remember the day i left the bat forums and went on to community forums, and started hating you all.

i remember once it got really low, it stayed in the same position.. and then it just kept on getting lower, everyone was complaining.. "when is it going to burn out already!?!?!" :cmad:

Well here we are...hard to believe the ride it's been.

Despite "Batman Begins" succeeding in resurrecting the franchise and character, one thing was certain...for all fans, eyes were pointed to the future. To the imminent sequel.

First there were the rumors that flew.

It would be called "Batman Continues"
Penguin and Black Mask will be featured...
Who could possibly play the Joker?

The names came soon after.

Adrien Brody, Crispin Glover, Paul Bettany...until finally.

HEATH LEDGER.

At first, most were skeptical. Could the guy from "A Knights Tale" and "10 Things I Hate About You" make any sort of impact on the level of Nicholson?

Only time would tell...and tell it did.

The odyssey of production was a long one. A journey where anything could happen, and it most often is the case with films inas much anticipation as this particular one.

First there was the Viral Marketing:

WHY SO SERIOUS?

We collectively held our breaths during the Scavenger Hunt at Comic Con 07 as Jokers all painted up roamed the streets while we found clues online and through phone numbers and AIM (Yep, I started that giant IM experiment...great fun lol).

And we were rewarded with the most teasing Teaser trailer EVER:

We watched in pain staking agony as a little Pumpkin baptized as 'Rory' decomposed more and more as each day passed.

We longed for the Joker to appear so we could "See Him In December."

Then "I Am Legend" hit...and no one could care less about the exploits of Will Smith:

Through it all, the discussions increased in quantity, if not all together quality...

The New Batsuit

"It's so cool!"
"It's too busy!"
"It looks like Robocop!"
"Wait until it's lit in the film!"

batcycle.jpg

The Bat-Pod

"What the heck?"
"Totally Bad Ass!"
"No way that thing could work in the real world!"
"I WANT ONE!"

i_believe_in_harvey_dent.jpg

Aaron Eckhart

"What a great choice!"
"I Loved 'Thank You For Smoking!"
"Harvey Dent isn't Blonde!"
"What's his Two-Face going to look like!"

and of course...

...

"THANK GOD!!!"

------

Throughout the months, we waited and we watched. Through it all we were given incredible posters, tantalizing clips, one amazing TV Spot after another...and a plethora of dialogue...making it one of the most quotable Batman films...and it wasn't even released yet:

"This town deserves a better class of criminal...and I'm gonna give it to them!"

"A little fight in ya...I like THAT."
"Then you're gonna love me!"

"WHY SO SERIOUS!"

"Any psychotic ex boyfriends I should be aware of?"
"Oh you have no idea..."

"I Believe in Harvey Dent."

"I'm a man of my word!"

tdk-apr25-new-dark-knight-poster201949id1a.jpg

"Never start with the head, the victim get's all fuzzy!"

"When the chips are down...these civilized people will eat each other!"

"I've seen now what I have to become to stop men like him."

"I was meant to inspire good...NOT madness..."

"Don't make me your only hope for a normal life."

"To them...you're just a freak. LIKE ME!"

---------------

We also endured tragedy...loss had been present on the set of the film, but the loss of Heath was a significant one. To this day, and with the release of the film, it's hard to remember that he's ultimately gone despite the anticipation to see him on the screen in a role that has unanimously been praised for its bold viceralness and imaginative portrayal. But he will forever live on through the legacy of Nolan's Batman universe and in our hearts as a milestone in the elaborate history of the Joker character for years to come.

-----------

All in all we've been through a lot on this particular production.

From cluttered Batsuits to obnoxiously slow pumpkins...From the "Perma-White" arguement to more digital timers and global coordinates than you can shake the Bank Managers shotgun at...

From a 'Calling Card' in the final scene of "Begins" to July 18th ... the ride has certainly been one to remember.

And as a proud member of the Super Hero Hype I will say only this.

It has been an privelege...and an honor to follow the creation of this dazzling comic book spectacle with the finest Batman fans I've ever known on and off the internet. You all are a truly unique breed of fan, and I cherish every day I can follow this crazy world of comic book movies with each and every one of you.

----

TDK...FTW

Let's hope the ride for "BB3" is just as enjoyable...if not more so!

I remember the days of "Batman Strikes" and "Batman Attacks"

I remember Miranda finding the Sides and trying to figure out the code names of the characters.

I remember the Comic Con hunt.

But I must say, My favorite thing was Rory and hanging with JF members and the SHH people in the Jow Forums chat room. Those were some good times.

people where saying Katie Holmes wasn't aloud to be in The dark knight because Tom cruise was against it, and forced her to say no.

things that stick out.

the casting sides
Miranda's scoops
Heath skateboarding and cutting up between takes
the debates running from "permawhite" to "I hate the pants"
