The Dark Knight Teaser with Pirates?!

Also, Harry Potter is much, MUCH more than a children's film. It captures the preteen/teen audience perfectly, and thusly, gets tons of parents and little brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles to tag along. You pretty much get the exact same audience for Potter as you do for Pirates.

You really think so? Maybe I can't talk I've only seen one HP movie but to me it seems Pirates has a broader appeal amongst adult audiences. You'll see more groups of guys in their 20's-30's going to see Pirates, couples on dates, larger groups of teens. Sure HP gets alot of that but not much as much as Pirates I thought.

Marketing-wise, a teaser with Pirates is a very smart move. That movie will be huge.

However, given the time that shooting started, I doubt we'll get one this soon.

Hm. I actually tend the opposite impression from what you got. I mean, I don't know a single person my age (18) who hasn't read Harry Potter. But the Pirates movies don't seem to be quite as popular.

Although I am talking about HP books, and not movies. Which are two very different things.

The last Pirates film made $1+ billion worldwide and $420+ million in North America. No Potter film has reached those numbers. That indicates a broader appeal for Pirates.

they're both popular in their own respects. why compare? (I know it's a 'discussion' but still)

That probably says more about the people you know than 18 yrs old in general. If I had to guess I'd say less than a third of all movie-going 18+ have ever read a HP book. Most people don't even read books. Many people see movies.

Maybe it's just my own perspective. As I see it more people of my age and interest would rather see POTC than HP, a movie about a boy wizard and his friends. Then again no one I know is interested in comics and most of my friends barely tolerate scifi and fantasy so that kind of skews it a bit.

it's funny with all this talk with a dark knight teaser. I don't know because I still think that Iron Man has a better chance of getting a teaser with Pirates than DK, since they started earlier.

Then again, it seems like Iron Man started earlier. DK never really had a solid starting date with the principle photography..hmmm..

i rather wait until potter so that they have something to put in the teaser.
i also wouldnt have a problem if the teaser comes out in december.

i dont think that TDK needs promotion wiht POTC. nolan made a great batman movie. and it has now a big fanbase because a lot of peopel were positive suprised after watching the dvd.

but thna again the teaser for BB was also while they were filming and it was a great teaser. the impact was big.

I don't know. Something tells me that we'll get a teaser in June. Just a feeling I have. It'd be about a year away at that point, and get non-fans REALLY excited for it.

From IGN:

Teaser trailer and villain rumors!

US, May 15, 2007 - The big Bat-rumor of the day is that the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight will be running in front of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when it opens July 13th. But is it true?

According to a scooper for Ain't It Cool News, the teaser trailer will show a series of playing cards falling in slow-motion against a black background. Over this we supposedly hear The Joker's voice. The last card to fall is a joker card "with also a picture of the bat signal on fire."

Alas, fanboys, sources close to Warner Bros., the studio releasing both films, have denied the report.

In related news, Batman-on-Film.com reports that recent rumors about The Dark Knight featuring an origin story for The Joker are slightly inaccurate. "The Joker is 'The Joker' throughout the film," claims BoF's source. "There could be some classic Nolan 'flashbacks' that vaguely hint at his origin, but there is no big 'Joker origin story.'"

The other juicy villain rumor is that Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow will be back, this coming after the actor himself recently told the press he hadn't gotten the call and assumed he was not in the movie. No word yet how large of a role Scarecrow may have this time.

I've never seen a teaser 14 months before the film's release.

One of the first films to have the Batman Begins trailer/teaser ( dont remember which) was Oceans 12. That is why I think Oceans 13 could be a possibility.

As far as Harry Potter being mostly a childrens film - hell no. I believe the last one was PG 13 and the books/movies are still incredibly popular with college/high school age students.

You kidding? Of course its a children's movie! All children's movies teach us that we should kill people in order to tear our soul into little tiny pieces in our quest for immortality. :oldrazz:

It just dawned on me how close we are to this movie, though a teaser this early seems a bit premature.

When did the first teaser for BB come out? And with what movie, if anyone remembers.

It came out in July but I can't remember when. Anyway, it'd be a huge surprise if we'll get a teaser with Pirates 3. But, they've been filming before the Chicago shoot, so, you never know...

Whatever film it comes out with, let's not forget it'll be online at the same time no doubt.

Meh. It's pretty early for a teaser...

Certainly wouldn't mind it, though.

Id rather we had one later on in the year..but i would like some pictures..proper pictures,

but i do think they should market the **** out of this, like spidey 3 was.

they might as well have a logo-only teaser in front of Pirates. just because everyone in the US is going to be seeing it. save the "with footage" trailer HP5.

To simply dismiss the Harry Potter movies like that would be incredibly arrogant.

I would argue that more than a third of all 24-18 movie goers have read a Harry Potter book. Most of my friends are in that age range - more are friends of Harry Potter than Pirates.

What it comes down to though is that WB would love to hit the audiences of both Pirates 3 and Harry Potter 5 - however time probably makes Pirates undoable.
