Teen Murderer Says Jail Is Too Hard

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- One of the teenagers responsible for beating a Holly Hill homeless man to death asked a judge to reduce his 22-year prison sentence Monday. Warren Messner and three other teens pled guilty to killing the man because they were bored, but Messner said prison is too hard.

Messner is a big boy. He was 15 at the time he was brought into the woods to see the homeless man his friends had been beating. Even at that young age, he outweighed the victim, Michael Roberts, by 200 pounds when he jumped on his chest, crushing his ribcage. Roberts died.

"Did you feel bad when you are doing it?" Messner was asked during questioning.

"Not really, no," he replied.

He didn't feel bad then, but he does now. He has been in juvenile detention for eight months, locked in a small cell and occasionally allowed to go to class.

Messner and his attorney said he has already learned his lesson and is ready to go home to help others.

"I want to be an inspirational speaker for troubled teens," he said Monday.

Messner got the lightest sentence of the four boys. Teens Jeffrey Spurgeon, Justin Stearns and Christopher Scamahorn got 27 to 35 years. They all cut plea deals to avoid life in prison.

The state attorney said that's as much leniency as they should get and the judge agreed.

"I can't think of some reason to change the sentence. I'm going to deny the motion," said the Hon. Joseph Will.

Messner's parents broke down at the denial. His mother said it's unfair, that her son fell in with a bad crowd and prison is killing him.

"He's not getting the mental health, the schooling. He's not getting anything, anything but locked in a cell all day long," Lori Messner said.

The judge and the state both argued that being deprived services and being locked away is precisely the point of prison. Warren Messner will spend the next 22 years in prison without the chance for parole.

Boohoo punk, pity the judge can't give him the death penatly for being a cry baby

Man this is kid no different then the little **** heads that live in my parents neighborhood. But he's still fifteen and I can only imgaine the things he's had to do in there. I wouldnt wish being a sex slave in prison on anyone.

What do you think about that twelve year old kid who shoved a shotgun barrel into his grandpa and grandma's mouth, and blew their head off?

His lawyers and parents are now blaming Zoloft, the anti-depressent drugs. Haha! That kid deserves to die.

Which is why I think more emphasise should be put into trying to reform criminals instead of always locking them up, only for them to come out worse than when they came in.

Prisons are full to bursting. We can't just keep building new ones all the time.

Most inmates are in because of drug charges, I don't think meth or crack should ever be legal. But the least we can do is stop putting people in the slammer for selling a few grams of Mary Jane.

But, usually, people who seel a few grams of Mary Jane also sell a few kilos of crack cocaine.

The majority of people who do drugs, don't just do weed. They will always climb the ladder, unfortuantely.

That's not true, a new study reports that weed does not encourage people to use "harder" drugs.

Bull****. Plenty of people smoke weed but don't "climb the ladder".

Most of them are too lazy to get off their couch to try crack.
Nobody wakes up after smoking some weed last night and turns into a meth ****e.

Sure, buddy.

I'm just waiting for the day you boys climb the ladder. *rubs hand* hehehe

And oh you will. don't say that i didn't tell u so. :oldrazz:

This is hilarious! If someone sells a few grams of pot, that means they're also selling a fews kilos of crack?!?! Kilos!?!? Do you realize how much a kilo of crack is?

Also smoking pot usually does not lead to other drugs, more often it leads to junk food. I bet you also think people go mad if they smoke pot too.

A kilo is 2.2 pounds, you could get thousands of people high on that much.

I hate stupid kids that think their actions have no consequences. I also hate the fact that a lot of jails do become more like a free vaction, that is a pitty. All prisoners should have to work hard labor for at least 10 hours a day. They don't need gyms and weight equipment make them dig ditches with plastic spoons and when the ditches are done, make them fill em in and start over.

they'd have to kill me because there's no way in hell anyone could make me do that.

Actually, it has been proven that it costs more for a state to execute someone than it does to keep them in prison for life.

we should do what china does. put one in their head, charge the fmily for the bullet, and call it a day.

Yeah, because China totally sets an example of humanitarianism and civil rights that all people should pridly follow. :o

Seriously, as it has been said before, the reason it's more expensive is because of the near endless system of apeals that the inmate has to go through to get to the executioner. And those are entirely necessairy, as wuthout them, the number of innocent people put to death would increase dramatically.

Personally, I'm against the death penalty as a rule. It just represents a level of barbarism and sadism that I believe we, as a speicese, should overcome.

why the owned face? all i said was it would be cheaper. never claimed it was humane or an example of civil rights.

You also said we should do it.

He has no pity from me, and I am glad that he's getting none from the judge either. Murder is murder is murder is murder, and it doesn't matter how bad prison makes you feel. You do the crime, you do the time. So man up, fatty. Serve your sentence and THEN be an inspirational speaker.
