Animation Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Considering where Byrne is from, maybe they’re going full-on Crocodile Dundee with the character and making her Aussie instead of Cajun.

I wouldn't mind a full on Bogan Croc Baddie.

Leatherhead was always my favorite

One of Jim Cummings lesser appreciated roles.

He brought that voice back for Catfish Booray on Randy Cunningham.

I think it looks OK. The art style is nice, different and the humor isn't bad.

But I can't help but feel feel like we've swung hard back into kiddie/cuteness after the Bay films. It's more or less exactly the tone you'd expect from an animated Seth Rogen film. And kids will love it, which is totally fine, they're clearly the target demo but man...

Each subsequent TMNT movie just further reminds me that the original film is a perfect gem and I don't think anything will ever come close to it, this included. That original movie had teeth and stakes, and it didn't sacrifice any of the humor and charm. It's just so clear that it was an indie film that "got through" whereas every attempt afterwards (even its own sequels) felt more tainted by Hollywood and chasing certain trends.

I came in with low expectations, because I don't like Seth's style of comedy, and I'm glad I did... this isn't for me. Not digging the animation. Not digging the character designs (especially Splinter). Donnie, my favorite turtle, sounds like a 5 year old.

I'm probably never gonna see it in my lifetime, but all I want is an R rated, bloody and brutal movie based on the original comic.

I'll still give this a chance at some point since I am such big fan of this franchise, but this is definitely aimed at a young/family friendly audience which is fine for them but its not really for me.

Granted, I'm someone who grew up with both the 90's movies and the 2003 cartoon which pretty much handled the TMNT characters the best IMO and I wish we got that kind of tonal balance in the later stuff.

It at least looks better than those crappy Michael Bay produced movies though which isn't saying much but its something I guess although I'm not crazy about the Spider-Verse animation either.

I know the turtles are teenagers, but it's jarring to hear actual teens voicing them. Maybe it'll take some getting used to...also not liking certain character designs, like Splinter seeming to have an afro. Hope that's a flashback scene.

Some things I am digging, like Mikey having braces. The colors in this movie are really vibrant, and I like the art direction for the most part. I think the movie will ultimately end up reviewing well, with audiences eating it up.

Yeah I'm not hating it
But I agree, it's weird to hear them actually sound like teenagers (and Donny does sound verrrry young, sorry for your bad luck Drizzle lol)
And its also weird that we've all become so accustomed to the TEENAGE Mutant Ninja Turtles sounding like 40 year olds

Hearing actual kids be the Ninja Turtles is pretty nice and refreshing. This looks like it'll be really cute, and I'll see it for the gorgeous art direction. The Spider-Verse influence on animated projects as of late has been awesome.

I dont hate it, but I don't love it either. Very definition of meh

Okay so I’m officially not feeling it.

I get where they’re going with it, the turtles being portrayed as actual teenagers is cool, but count me as another who is waiting for that darker, Mirage Comics-esque story that will probably never happen.

Interesting that they wait until April is black to make her a big girl. Hmm.

Yeah, that is weird how we've gotten accustomed to the older voices. I wish they had done it this way from the beginning instead of having the older guys voicing. Maybe it wouldn't be so jarring then. But I also wonder if the fan base would be as big if they were voiced by children from the start. Something like Spider-Man works for the more youthful portrayal compared to other live-action versions being older, but I wonder why it doesn't work for me regarding the turtles.

It's skewing a little young for my preference but still looks fun enough to enjoy. Doesn't look like it will compare to the original Turtles material.

I just can't help but feel like both the Bay films and this are both trying hard to reinvent the wheel when it's not necessary. I feel like they both miss the sweet spot of what made me fall in love with the Turtles as a kid.

Tbh I'm getting the feeling that the 2007 movie came the closest to the type of modern Turtles movie I'd want to see. If you could marry this quirky animation style with the tone of the 2007 film/quasi continuation of the original films (but with a better story), I'd be on board with something like that. The 2007 movie had kind of a meh plot with the monsters BUT the Leo/Raph story was great as well as the themes of getting older and them adjusting. It at least attempted to inject some of the pathos of the original film and I appreciated that.

I'm not mad about it, I accept that it's not really for me, the Turtles brand has transcended nostalgia at this point and is still popular with kids so it is what it is. And who knows, maybe I'll like this more than I think.

Kids are going to love this.

I'm very curious about this. The TMNT apex was 1990 where they were at an all-time high with kids thanks to the TV series and first movie.

Can they reach that level of popularity again with kids today?
