Animation Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

You have to appreciate the 1990 film for balancing things as well as they did between the light-hearted and the gritty. The Bay produced films just don't do it for me. This is just probably going to be even more focused on laughs and lack any real edge to it at all so I'm meh about it. We're never going to get something like I want anyway, which is something like the 2003 series in live action. Before moving it to the future it was pretty awesome. I have nothing against the other cartoons. They all work for me but I would rather see something on the darker side. Too bad the only thing like that we might get is that rumored Last Ronin All Access series. Which I feel I do need to support if it comes out on the off chance it leads to something I actually want being produced later.

I think I heard that Peter Laird said the series was not something he has heard was in the works. So that may not be a thing, sadly.

I would like something at least totally similar to the 90s first movie. Yeah, the fights were not great in the movie, but the art direction was awesome and Shredder came off like a complete boss in a way he hasn't outside of the 2003 show.

I wish that costumes would come back myself. I love movies with great costumes and practical effects, and the first 2 TMNT films have wonderful costuming. They look so good that I overlook some of the bad dialogue and underwhelming fights.

Shredder in the 1990 movie and the 2003 show was such a menacing and scary SOB. I really wish they would just go back to the darker, grittier tone of those instead of constantly making everything lighter and more kid friendly. This property has been around for a long time now yet they still act as if the majority of their fanbase is nothing but children. Batman vs.TMNT is the only recent thing I can think of that did any of the characters justice and what makes it even sadder is that it was a DTV animated film.

That’s what I’m saying man. They’ve given us 50-11 of these family friendly Ninja Turtles movies/shows, but if they gave us just one with them:

They could have ALL my coins.

An animated movie with the Mirage Turtles, fighting Shredder, killing him in combat, him surviving and coming back with a vengeance and burning down April’s apartment and then his and Leo’s rematch would be so damn good and different.

Then give us City at War for the sequel.

People always say that they want the darker Mirage comic era stuff. That's just not gonna work. The series has evolved past that and would lose a lot of money by doing that. As well as affected the brand negatively honestly.

I think you can make something fun and cool, but that isn't kid friendly or a joke. That's the best route

Yeah, the first movie blended that well. But would a more adult TMNT based series on like HBO or something be cool? I would like to see it. Nickelodeon will never do it.

But the problem is we’ve gotten only one of the 1990 movie and a proliferation of this family friendly fluff. But with all the money that franchise has, they could afford to give us one PG-13 spinoff limited series for Netflix or something.

Why? Why would they do that.
Which, to my eyes, the 1990 film already nailed perfectly the blend of the cool of the 1984 comic and the fun of the 1987 animated series.
I think the 90s movie a lot of the time eared a little bit on the side of goofy, but I largely agree.

FOr me take that 03 series, make it PG13 and I think that's good.
Or just make it PG. I don't think the rating matters much as long as you balance the tone. I've said it a lot, but just look at Spider-Verse. It was funny, heartfelt, dramatic, had good action, and was very well animated.

That's all I want

That would be awesome! I remember the first time I read the first issue, and the way Shredder got blown up by the grenade was brutal!

Also want to see the red bandanas for the first time, but that’s just me!

Mirage Comics were awesome, have to find my box of those comics!

If they're oiung an origin of how the Turtles meet up with April and/or Casey for the first time I think the all red bandanas could be a cool no. Then have whoever give them different ones, except Ralph refuses to change his because...well he's Ralph

Why? Why would they do that.

More like “why not?” They wouldn’t have anything to lose but more to gain if they took a risk and gave the demographic who grew up with this franchise a darker, violent, animated reboot.

Let’s be realistic, we live in a Avengers world, what kids in 2020 are obsessed with Ninja Turtles like some in our generation was back in the day? It’s not like kids today know or care enough for this franchise to continue making the kiddy stuff its been doing for the last couple years.

I definitely wouldn’t say no to something in the vein of 1990, tone wise. As others have mentioned, they did a great job mixing elements from both mediums.

Precisely. Give us all that, some good stars for the voices, and they would cash in.

So many stories to tell, Return to New York, City at War, the Dimension X stuff, it would be fun.

What do you mean what do they have to lose? Money. TMNT is a kid friendly franchise. All the sudden going hard left into more adult territory is going to lose people. They have to sell tos

And really if your point is give the older demographic who were fans of the older series want...they want that feeling of watching that show again. They don't want something that is so different from what they remember. TMNT isn't like Batman or Bond which has a huge mainstream history of being dark as well as jokey

And I'm not saying make it kiddy at all. You can make a great movie that is kid friendly that is still mature and enjoyable. Kubo and the 2 Strings, Avatar: The Last Airbender, DBZ, Spider-Verse, etc.

The last figure I have, has TMNT merch estimate at 914 mill for 2018. That alone is more than any of the movies, 1990 or otherwise, grossed. Even adjusted for inflation. Making a more adult show like the Mirage comics would lose a lot of that. It's not good business at all

What do you mean what do they have to lose? Money. TMNT is a kid friendly franchise. A majority of their success is do to merch and toys. All the sudden going hard left into more adult territory is going to lose people and money. You have to step out of your own fanboy bubble and think about what people actually want

So again I ask you, in the year of our Lord 2020, what kids do you see obsessing over TMNT like the kids did back in the 80s/90s? I don’t know if you have children or anything, but my godchildren either ask me for DBZ, Avengers, or WWE merchandise.

I say all that to say they’re not selling like they used to for the kids like they did in our day. Of course the studio would risk losing money if they went for an adult themed project, any production is a risk, but no risk no reward.

With the right force behind it, a Mirage-esque TMNT netflix project could be a hit.

well i heard in the very first ninja turtlers comic books! they didn't have ninja weapons but they used guns!! if your fan of teeange mutant ninja turtlers check out Nickelodeon's teeange mutant ninja turtlers not the rise of ninja turtlers but the 2014 Nickelodeon's teeange mutant ninja turtlers it was also computer Anmited TV series!! i can't get into Nickelodeon's most recent rise of the ninja turtlers! they got different weapons & April is black girl! & splinter looks more liked bosom then an rat!! & they made Raphael the leader!! & they give Raphael powers i also don 't liked the Animation!! & they don't fight the shredder!! did you guys see the live action teeange Mutant ninja turtlers TV show? it was kind of horriable!! i enjoyed some epsidoes!! but they had an fifth turtle & the turtle was an girl!!

I don't see kids obsessing over anything. Don't have kids and my cousins are teenagers at the youngest. My half sister likes Spider-Man and some various kids shows I never heard of but that's it. And what your saying is completely anecdotal.

I put the numbers there in the last post. Just 2 years ago they made over 900 mill off the back of merch. They sold over a billy each year between 2014-2016. Merch mostly pertaining to kid friendly things. Men lie, women lie. Numbers don't. Anecdotal stuff rarely means anything. I don't know anyone who religiously watched The Big Bang Theory or NCIS, but it's clear they are/were very popular shows.

Just because it's not DBZ (although from what I can tell the merch from TMNT outclasses DBZ merch), WWE (international but still very US focused franchise), and Avengers doesn't mean it's not successful or popular

I mean, we already have a cartoon on Nick, plus that animated Netflix movie, and this. Lots of stuff to appeal to kids.

But, I do understand there’s so many different iterations of the TMNT over 36 years. You can’t please every group

What animated Netflix movie?

But why do we need TMNT to even appeal to adults anyway? They're successful as kid friendly. Why go adult? Adults will probably think it's too goofy to see TMNT played completely straight.
The only reason I'm seeing for it is people saying "I want it, so they should do it." which is cool. But I'm not gonna pretend that it's smart to do something just cuz I want it

I wouldn't be mad if they did it, but I don't see why they would nor do I expect it
