Comics Ten Worst Things That Have Ever Happened to Spidey

Which issue was that? Sounds like an interesting story, I don't think i've ever read a story where anything even remotely similar has happened. The Spidey I know would rather die than beg for mercy dammit!!

it's not the best comic in the world but spidey gets truelly owned in it...

not my favourite spidey ownage though, that goes to black tarantula

he unmasks spidey and doesn't even care about seeing his identity, thats complete ownage...

November Rain, you're officially my favorite poster on the site.

ah c'mon, everyone loves the black tarantula,

What i would have really liked to see what him linked to morlun. I'm not sure whether or not he is totem based power but black tarantula is obviously a whole nother level completely above spidey, I would have liked to have seen how morlun and bt would have handled one another.

Personally, I think BT would have destroyed morlun considering he k.o'd spidey in like 3 moves, something morlun i don't think has ever really done.

Based on the way Black tarantula seems to have died, no. Not everyone loves BT.:csad:
But I agree with your thoughts on Morlun vs Black tarantula. Yeah, Morlun actually got the kill in, but BT got something more. Spidermans pride. He took that away when he unmasked him in the alley in under a minute.

1. Uncle Ben getting killed (its motivated Peter to be Spider-Man and everything he has experienced has stemmed from that)
2. Gwen Stacy's death (he watched his first true love die in front of him, thats cruel on a whole different level)
3. baby May's death (he and MJ dont even mention thier daughter, I know its really because Marvel wants to forget the whole thing but I'm rationalizing)
4. Civil War and aftermath (Peter put both May and MJ's lives in danger, and May seems to be paying the price)
5. Harry Osborn's death (his friend didnt only die, he died as the Green Goblin. thats gotta be a kick in the nuts)
6. bringing the alien costume to earth (the symbiote has caused untold damage to New York by itself and by spawning Carnage)
7. allowing the bank robber to escape into the sewers and thusly discover the Green Goblin's hideout (Georgie then sold the equipment to Roderick Kingsley, who became the Hobgoblin, eventually resulting in Ned Leed's death)
8. being "killed" by Morlun (it didnt effect other people as much as it effected Peter himself, so thats why I rank it fairly lowly, Peter is kinda selfless, so he would put the tragedy of others ahead of his own personal crisis)
9.the return of Norman Osborn (again, its a personal crisis, not so much a disaster for New York)
10. being buried alive by Kraven the Hunter (thats just got to be a whole new kind of mindf***)

1. Joe Quesada
2. JMS
3. Sins Past
4. The Other
5. The Unmasking
6. Spider-Totem Crap
7. Kraven the Hunter
8. Venom II

Don't really have 2 more right now...

Any way we can seperate our personal feelings on certain creators from the list, such as JMS and Joe Q...? Otherwise the whole list would be filled with names like Howard Mackie, John Byrne, Terry Kavanaugh, Ron Zimmerman, Bob Harras, Ralph Macchio etc....

Wow this thread has made me realize that spidey has been through a s***load of crap in his lifetime. A lesser man would've prolly commited suicide a long time ago. Thats why Spidey's the greatest.

And to add on, i would add when Norman Osborn kidnapped, tortured and brainwashed Peter for like 2 weeks. That story was intense!!

To add to your list, I would place the Spider-title reboot of 1999 at 9, then return of Aunt May/Norman Osborn after great death issues.

Compared to that other stuff(which I can not deem which is worse over the other) Kraven and VenomII don't even register.

GOOD CALL! Sole bright-spot from the immediate relaunch. Plus, at the time MJ was supposedly dead and Pete had to live with Randy... not a fun time.

Here's my list, after giving it some major thought....(i struggled with some of these, switched some around numerous times...debating with myself...lol....)

1. Death of Uncle Ben
2. Seeing the 911 tragedy (this was a life changing sight!!)
3. Death of Gwen Stacey
4. Death of Captain Stacey
5. Being buried alive for 2 weeks (Kraven)
6. The unmasking (still can't feasibly see why Pete would do this if written properly...)
7. Sins Past, finding out Gwen slept with Osborn...(bleh!)
8. Harry's Drug Use
9. Kept in a Psych Ward (mad dog ward) and restrained, drugged, etc...
10. Aunt May's Death(s) and many sickness's and/or coma's...(lol..)

(Aunt May's death, could be higher on list but with first one retconned, and currently unknown were the present coma is going, i am leaving it at #10 for now, but would be much higher depending on ramifications if were to REALLY happen. Regardless, aunt may being ill/hurt, etc has ALWAYS been a major concern in Pete's life.)

Okay now that I've a seen everyones list heres my two cents(excluding Joe Quesada and magical origins)

1.Death of Ben Parker(We all agree on this)
2.Thinking he's a clone(due to stress he actually beat MJ over this. though I try to pretend this never happened.)
3.death of Gwen Stacy
4.Death of Baby May?(If shes dead I mean)/GG beats up MJ.
5.Death of Harry Osborn(best friend)
6.Aunt May gets shot(declares to kill someone. Puts on black costume)
6.Unmasking/Civil war
7.Gwen sleeps with Norman. Births his kids.(another in denial situation.)
8.Death of Ben Rielly.
9.Spider-man dies from magical spider disease(imo Morlun didn't kill him)
10.Goblin puts million dollar bounty on his head and the whole city hunts him/identity crisis.

Wow....no "Night of the Goblin"....

Here's mine:

1. Uncle Ben's death (duh)
2. Finding out he's a clone - Finding out your entire existence is a lie SUCKS. Especially when you've established a good life and stolen that very life from essentially, yourself. This may lead one to do crazy things like accidentally lash out at his wife, leave his life, and join an insane villian in his quest to create a world full of clones. Worst of all, NO BRAINWASHING. He was a wreck....
3. Gwen's death (duh)
4. Night of the Goblin - imo, this should be a no-brainer (again, imo). If MY baby died in a stillbirth the same day my brother gets killed trying to save my life from my long-thought dead worst enemy (who killed my girlfriend and indirectly killed my best friend), then I'd feel pretty ****ty. In fact I'd be SO mad, that I'd throw a bag of pumpkin bombs with enough firepower to take out a skyscraper at my worst enemies chest, surely killing him. One could make the argument that this is worse than Gwen's death but it will never be because most fans hate the clone saga while Gwen's death ushered in the Silver Age of Comics. One could also argue that this is worse than finding out he was a clone because (as established in Revelation #1) he's truly happy now before the Goblin comes and takes it all away. In a matter of seconds, he makes a decision to kill a man (osborn) and just because Osborn's rediculous healing factor saves him doesn't absolve Peter from the decision he made. Peter didn't know he was gonna live...
5. "Death" of MJ - Living with Robbie's son (not so bad, but he's no MJ :woot:), living in denial for months, being homeless and too proud to go home to Aunt May. Pretty crappy if i say so myself.
6. Death of Harry - death of his best friend
7. Fake Parents - You know, the whole "I am the Spider" crappened here. He went nuts.
8. Back in Black - Outs himself, putting his family in constant, permanent danger which results in his Aunt getting shot by a sniper.
9. Jean De Wolffe - Friend is killed by the guy you've been working with to find her killer. Sucks.
10. Death of Captain Stacy - Your only father figure is killed and your girlfriend officially hates Spider-Man, your alter-ego, forever.

Phew...that took awhile. What a crummy life.

Good list!

Night of the Goblin is indeed a horrible event for Pete.

I was trying to use some ideas not used by everyone else on here (such as 9/11 which would be a huge devestating event to a "hero", especially one like Spidey who is a fellow New Yorker, and a very well written story btw)....in all actuality, there have been quite a lot of bad things that have happened to our favorite web slinger over the years!!

Lots to choose from! :yay: As these lists show.

SSM 226. I'll never forget it because it's the issue that made me quit reading comics for 7 years. As a woman, it's hard to forget things like that. And I don't believe in making excuses like "he was stressed." He could have killed her; she was preggers at the time, too, and he could have killed their baby.

I think thats a little extreme. My sisters fiance hit her once and only once and it was a perfectly acceptable thing to do in his position, she can be a real b*tch beleive me similar to mj.

Let me get this straight... if a woman is a "real b*tch" then it's okay to hit her? Wow. Do you mind if I ask how old you are? That sounds like something a 14-year-old would say.

As far as I'm concerned, a husband's job is to be a protector. He does not hit his wife, no matter what she does. And MJ was hardly acting like a "real b*tch" at the time she was hit; she was trying to keep Peter from killing Ben. She was also pregnant at the time. Would you say that hitting a pregnant woman is okay, too, if she's acting like a "real b*tch?"

In real life there are circumstances where a physical confrontation with a female is somewhat unavoidable and perhaps the preferred means of ending a conflict...

however in spidey's case, it probably wasn't. Saying this though, the worst thing you want when you find out you're not 'real' is someone else going on and on about it. Not that i've read the actual story but i can imagine the scenario.

If a woman physically assaults a man then I can understand if he chose to defend himself... but we're not talking about MJ smacking Pete around or "going on and on" and acting like a "real b*tch" about anything. Pete flew into a rage and started beating Ben to a pulp. MJ tried to intervene and got backhanded. Pete yells, "get away from me!!" at her (clearly showing that he knew she was there, so I don't consider the hit to be an accident). She flew across the room and hit a wall. Her face was bloodied.

Yeah. Its Spider-man writing at its worse. But I CAN see how MJ could forgive him. She knows under any other circumstance he wouldn't dare ever hit her. Added to the fact that he's saved her life more times than she can remember.

you have to actually know the situation and everything leading upto it to understand. I agree with you that its not right, and a guy in 99% circumstances who hits a girl out of anger or frustration is a pathetic specimen. HOWEV, none of us know what its like to believe we are clones. most of us have never even been bitten by a spider of any kind. Pete should not have backhanded MJ, but it is forgivable. in my sisters case, she was asking for it and there was a feeling of "..finally" across the minds of all of us who witnessed it. in actuality, I think the whole situation helped her shape up.

I'm from texas, btw.

i always thought that sal buscema's shoddy art in that issue really makes that awful moment stand out even more. i really like sal and he really shines in stuff like Harry's death but it seems like he just turned in some real crap in those issues.

for example: i think if Peter was clearly savagely beating Ben Reilly to a pulp and THEN she tried to step in (rather than in the middle of the scuffle, it's not like Ben can't protect himself) then it would have been more acceptable that Pete was lost in his rage. the art was so dark and gritty (not in the cool way, but the shoddy way) that i really think someone like Bagley would've told the story in a better way.

I mean, c'mon, Pete's no Pym.
