Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

I keep seeing the best since T2 but is that really an achievement with how bad the last 3 movies were? I kind of hate when reviews through that out there, like the best star wars since empire strikes back.

Tim Miller adds the balls back to this series that have been seriously lacking since T2. The fact that the man knows how to do high-intensity action was a huge plus because all of the action set pieces were impressive.

You can tell unlike the last two movies, that the person behind the camera likes the Terminator movies and really wanted to make a good one. The passion is right there on the screen. I think some fans need to face that we'll never see one as good as T2 and a sequel just being good on its own is an achievement.

I'm curious, do T3, Salvation and Genysys all get completely ignored?

Just saw a surprise advance screening of Terminator: Dark Fate last night! All I can say right off the bat is that this IS the Terminator movie I’ve been waiting for since T2. Brutal, visceral with action that’ll make any fan of the series salivate.

I can’t wait to see it again!

This is very heartening to hear, along with the positive reaction so far. Honestly, I haven't thought the trailers looked awful like some have said. I've been very much in the wait and see camp with this movie, as I figure there's no way it can be worse than Genysis as the very least.

Besides the action being gritty, what did you make of it as a sci-fi film that advances the mythology? Does it take it in an interesting direction? And would you say it felt more like a natural extension of the story than the other sequels did?

It takes the mythology in a direction that I wasn't expecting. It was definitely more of a natural extension simply because Linda's inclusion really made it gel a lot better than the previous attempts. As I said before, while watching it you can tell the people making this movie really cared about what came before it and that they were setting out to make a good Terminator movie.

I just go with the other movies all being offshoots of the original timeline due to various paradoxes or whatever. I don't dismiss them but they happened in their own little bubbles.

It is better for my health to dismiss anything that isn't the original or T2. :o

Please correct me if im wrong guys, but did we not hear the same “best since T2!!” early praise with Genysis? Color me skeptical.

Genisys was neutered and made by a director that clearly wasn't passionate about the source material. Also not a director that should've ever stepped away from directing TV. It lacked balls and had Jai Courtney in it, so there's that.

Dark Fate makes Genisys look like a Disney channel original movie.

Same, enjoyed them all to some extent but T3 especially I still enjoy a lot.

Great to hear.

I can't believe this is getting positive reviews. The trailers did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for me truthfully, but I'm liking what I'm reading. It's awesome that Linda Hamilton gets to kick ass again after all these years. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole this is the "Force Awakens of the Terminator franchise" statement that seems to be popping up in every review, but my interest level has certainly jumped.

I'm confident this will be massively better than the last 3 attempts, but has far as it being worthy to belong in the same sentence as T1/T2, I still have my doubts.

Just got out of the film. There are things I genuinely liked about it, and things I genuinely didn't like about it. I will say, as someone who hated all the previous sequels, this is the first one I thought was passable and didn't suck.

Basically, this is the "Predators" of the Terminator franchise for me right now.

Mackenzie Davis, didn't like her acting and delivery. She has the look right, but her dialogue and delivery is just bad and awkward. She can't capture that sort of style that made Biehn so great as Kyle Reese and she's the Kyle Reese of this movie. Some of her dialogue is cringey.

Feel the same. It's encouraging but I can't get past the cgi. That new Terminator didn't look much better than what we got in '91...

I'm not allowing myself to be carried away this this, but I might just end up giving this a go.
I've not bothered with Salvation or Genysis or the TV series, but the reviews so far have got my attention.

See for me, she was the standout of the new cast as far as the female characters are concerned. Her physicality literally blew me away. I can see some of the line delivery in this film in general coming off as a little stilted, but I was surprised at how much I liked the Grace character since she was my main worry from the beginning.

I'm not suprised.
How's Tom Holkenborg's score?

I LOVED it! In some parts it even has some Mad Max: Fury Road vibes during the action sequences for obvious reasons. The scores for the last three films were all underwhelming for me so I was very satisfied to hear what he came up with. He definitely played with some of the classic sounds and motifs from the previous films, especially from T2. T2 had this menacing vibrating metallic sound whenever the T-1000 was on the hunt and Junkie brought that back here for the Rev 9.

I commented my feelings on his facebook and he actually replied. He said there are talks for a CD and Vinyl version to be released which I'm very excited about.

if its only tissue that aged why is the whole T800 older? people's faces and bodies change when they age . nose gets bigger, bones move different and so on. if only the tissue aged then the T800 should look like Arnold from 1983 with prosthetics. it doesnt make sense. I mean Arnold in 1991 in T2 looked different than in 1983 and noone said that anything. They should made it clear that they just wanted Arnold back and smile.

I’ve read this post five times and I legit have no idea what point you’re trying to make.

.
This is particularly pleasing to hear as i hold Brad Fiedal's score to a high standard.
