Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

Also my interest in Dark Date was terminated once I heard about John Conner. Because at first I was like Arnold and Linda Hamilton I'm totally down with this and now I'll probably get the Blu Ray just for my Arnold collection.

Looks like this is the end of the franchise for a long time. At least it sort of came full circle with Cameron and Hamilton returning after what, two decades? What's interesting is that in the 90's, Cameron was still very much interested in making a Terminator 3. He even said that T2 3D was a stepping stone for a potential third film. However, it seems like the battle for the Terminator rights soured him on the prospect, and by the late 90's he decided to move on.

Hollywood's proven to be really stubborn about established franchises and brands. I mean look how desperate studios have been to revive Terminator over the last two decades.

Four massively budgeted failed sequels. A TV show that lasted for two seasons. All just years apart.

Add the other franchises----Alien, Predator, Die Hard---that don't know when to quit. They keep churning out more relentlessly mediocre "_____ Has Fallen" movies.

At least that Die Hard prequel thing seems to have fallen apart. At least I hope. Len Wiseman's career is in decline enough as it is.

Am I right that T3 and TSCC are considered alternate timelines to each other for what transpired after the events of T2? In which case, TDF is now a third alternate timeline?

Cameron has said that all the films after T2 and TSCC are alternate timelines now.

Thanks. Yes, Genisys is a weird one, as according to that T2 didn't happen either :wall:

Edit: Although I guess there's a timeline where it did and one where it didn't.

Interestingly, SCC referenced T3, in that they referenced the breast cancer that killed her in T3. And Genisys at least seemed to reference Kyle Reese having a brother.

That is interesting. I only saw a few episodes of TSCC.

After Dark Fate, this is how I understand it's supposed to go:

T1, T2, TDF: Same timeline.

T3, TSCC, Salvation, TG: Different timelines.

I recently rewatched the first two movies (the only ones I rewatch), and am I reading too much into it or, at least in some scenes, is Arnold made up to look slightly weird?

I don't mean obvious parts like where it's the model head in place of Arnold where he's removing the damaged eyeball, but sometimes he looks pale/gray or something. Idk if it's subtle makeup or what, but combined with his blank expression, there's times in the first movie where he looks subtly inhuman even before it gets more obvious.

And he doesn't look like that in the second movie (where he's softened as the "good guy" Terminator).

Or am I overanalyzing and seeing stuff that isn't there?
Necrosis from severe injury/tissue damage.

So T1, T2, and TDF is the 'timeline proper' now?

Edit: With the others as individual offshoots?

Pretty much whatever is the latest movie is the "proper timeline". Genisys the only one that technically doesn't branch from T2.

EDIT: And I just popped in my SCC blu ray.

I haven't seen this yet, but looking at some of the (non-spoiler) reviews on IMDb, Jeeez. It's being savaged. More than one reviewer saying they even preferred Genisys. Its rating is only just higher than TG's too (6.5, compared to 6.4) I know IMDb isn't exactly an impartial barometer of movie quality, but is Dark Fate really that bad?
It's inconceivable to me that someone could prefer Genisys to Dark Fate. It's a better movie on every level or angle you could compare the two.

It was a certainly a surprise to me. As I read on I found a lot of people saying it. I guess some of it could have been a knee-jerk reaction from people who'd just got home from seeing it with very high hopes and who felt badly let down.

To me it's like saying' This is the best Terminator movie since T2!" It's sort of like starting a slow clap and no one else does. It's basically damning with faint praise.

I feel Gensisys and Dark Fate made a lot of the same mistakes. So if someone likes one more than other, I say whatever, get what you want out of these.

Well, "same continuity" might be a better term for the Cameron films and TDF, since I would imagine a new timeline is in place after the events of T2 and what happens in TDF. But I dunno. All the films deal with time travel, so it's kinda wonky, no? :hehe:

James Cameron doesn’t seem to have a good track record when it comes to producing movies. Just this year alone two movies that he produced like Battle Alita Angel & this flopped. I guess Cameron can only have success when he’s the director. Neither Miller, nor Rodriguez have Cameron’s “magic” to turn projects that are met with skepticism into box office gold. Cameron has never directed a movie that has flopped but will the potential failure of the Avatar sequel finally put an end to his directorial winning streak? I mean who even cares about Avatar anymore? Can Cameron catch lightening in the bottle twice?

Exactly on the first part, and as for the second, they just find different ways to take a dump on the original movies.
