Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

Missed this on the big screen, but I actually really enjoyed it. Didn't go in expecting it to be better than the first two of course, but just wanted something that was clear and easy to follow. Suffered from a bit of CGI-itis at times, but aside from that, I liked the action.

Big fan of Mackenzie Davis too and she was solid. I hope she gets a chance to appear in another big franchise - and succeed.

I hope this and Blade Runner don't damage her chances too much.

After "Dark Fate", this is "TS: TERMINATORS"!
Several T-800 are sent back in time by Skynet. But their mission is scrambled by John Connor.
And now they are all targeting each other!
New Short Film with a lot of Schwarzy here:

Finally watching TDF and so far it's honestly not bad. The intro makes sense because they did change the future in T2 and if judgement day is meant to always happen like in T3 then i can accept it as an alternate future.

I just don't see the point of the movie. It does nothing better than T2, so instead of watching this mediocre at best film, why not just watch the much better ones?
There is no point. T2 is the natural ending for this series. But I enjoyed this movie for what it is. I liked seeing Linda and Arnold together again. The action, especially on the airplane, was well done. And the acting was good.

Eh. I thought the action in some scenes was great and a CG mess in others. I didn't love the main character at all. She was very bland. Nothing about this movie wowed me

I thought the same about the action. There was some really cool, fun stuff in there but the CGI would get so fake sometimes that it would just pull you out of it. Especially when someone was being throwing around. I don’t know why that’s so hard for them to get right.

And I thought the actors other than Natalia Reyes did a good enough job even though the material wasn’t good. Most of the dialogue was heavy exposition so the bond between Grace and Dani ended up feeling pretty hollow, even though they kept trying to sell it as the heart of the film imo. I did like Gabriel Luna as the terminator, even though the Rev-9 was just another ****ty T-1000 knockoff.

It does nothing better than perhaps the greatest action movie of all time. Oh no,,,,,, The point is to entertain people for two hours, not be better than T2. Now whether it's successful at that is a different story. The job of a sequel is to be good, not necessarily better.

But the issue is this movie doesn't do anything new. It just treads the same ground, only inferior.

Gabriel Luna

Watched this last night and mixed feelings about it.

Good things - Arnie/Linda/Mackenzie all great in their roles. Newcomers good also. Gabrial Luna suitably emotionless and intimidating as the latest unstoppable Terminator, albeit I'm not sure how much of a stretch it is really. Action scenes were enjoyable, particularly the first one leading to the bridge when Sarah arrives. And most importantly, the tone of a Terminator film felt right for the first time in a while - no slapstick comedy or camp bits, the tone was much darker and felt more like T1 and T2. This is how a Terminator film should feel.

Bad things - Two stick out in my mind. First ................ the opening scene. Bit of a kick in the teeth to the entire story of T2, but we quickly move past it.

The second gripe I had is a pretty major one. This film really brings nothing new to the table; sure, there's numerous plot devices to freshen things up a little - like 'Carl' and his family, a new backstory for the future war, Grace's hybrid nature, etc - but that's all window dressing. Fundamentally, the story is a retread of what's come before - a killer machine is sent back to kill the young & innocent future leader of the resistance, and the film is essentially one long chase ended with a climatic fight to the finish.

I think as time moves on, I've grown to appreciate Terminator : Salvation a bit more. It's got its flaws for sure, but it remains the only Terminator film (and that's including T2, as good as it is) to really try and tell a very different story.

Just finished watching it. In no real order, my issues.

Linda has been away and obviously grown old gracefully off screen, on screen, even with cgi'd face and neck, and make up, she just looked too old to be acting the way she was, the poses and what not - I did like the line that she drinks till she blacks out, but that's the angle I would have gone down, they ignored it - I would have had her almost considered a nut job, I wold have had her self medicate and drink through out the movie and just be a wreck after what she went through, I would even have her doubt herself, did it actually happen?
John being killed just seemed so rushed and something to launch off of and WTF, a robot managed to raise a family? C'mon. The angle they had in Genysis was way better.

Henry Cavil should have been the new Villian - he would have looked good and robotic as hell.

It's lost itself now. T2 ended it all and stopped it. This one should have been about a new AI emerging and we see it real time attack. I mean, today looks like AI could wake up at any minute and attack us.

Mackenzie was great, considering they gave her some woke lines.

It failed I think, for me, to ignite interest.

In a nut shell, Linda shouldn't have been this tough guy terminator hunter. She should have been working in a cafe, John off doing his thing. The world gets creepy with its AI and companies build proto type arms, legs, chests for military casualties, robots to go in and locate bombs etc and it looks just like the eco skeleton and also T800 etc and Sarah starts freaking out and getting triggered sos he goes off the grid with John, prepared.

Trouble is, they are irrelevant as it's a new future where AI does it a different way and a new resistance start up - which then causes this new AI to send it's terminators back to kill the new resistance leader and the sequel can then show that.

I see online most people who are just seeing it for the first time say they are surprised its good after expecting the worst from first reviews. Theres plenty of fb and instagram posts showing a photo of the bluray and comments saying ' todays movie night. Ive heard it isnt good but ill see for myself" and then comments complimenting the film. As to why people buy movies they havent even seen i dont know, but there may be plenty of good reasons for them to do so. And again, Terminator is an iconic mythology, people will want to check the next installment for themsleves sooner or later despite what theyve heard. The bad reviews did impact the movie goers tho. Still, Terminator, while still a recognizable iconic mythology, isnt what it used to be in peoples minds. Its been 28 years since a Terminator movie was a multiple Oscar winner and nominee and a smash hit. Like I said before, nowadays people think of the Terminator as Arnold being funny and quipping hilarious one liners and shooting piles of weapons. They dont remember them as serious movies with actual stories but an Arnold SNL skit instead. I think T3 set this image in motion and burned it forever

That is definitely true for some people. A while back I showed T1 to some people who had only seen from T3 onwards and they were amazed (and impressed) at the difference.

For sure. Ask a young person even someone in their mid 20s and they just think its going to be some cheesy dumb action movie. People are very surprised when they watch the first two.

Such a sad truth. Unfortunately many classics now become forgotten/omitted by new generation. the new generation doesnt even know older stuff. Jaws, Blade Runner, all these classics arent getting ny attention or recognition anymore
Two of my all-time top five films!

This is called getting old, homie. Every older generation feels this way about the younger folks. Doesn’t invalidate it of course, but we are becoming relics in a way.

Most of the criticism I saw for the film was that it offered very little that was new from the previous films.

People stayed away because they had been burned by the previous poor installments, didn't care about the terminator franchise anymore or simply realized the film was mostly a retread of the previous films and didn't want to waste money on it.
