Terminator: Genisys - Part 3

I think it's also a case of franchising a series of films that was never meant to be franchised, at the very least without its creator. Cameron really needs to be the one driving Terminator, but he's long since moved on from it.

This whole discussion is cyclical.

Im just saying there is no evidence that someone other than Cameron can do a good Terminator movie.
Saying because we got 3 crappy movies from 3 sub par directors doesnt mean anything. If all these movies were being made by people who have really good track records then I would say people had a point.

Cameron doesnt need to "driving" Terminator. They just need to get some real talent involved. It wouldnt hurt to get him on as a producer, but that wont happen.

I mean theres Rian Johnson, Drew Goddard, Jeff Nichols, Joe Cornish, and all these other really good directors/story tellers out in Hollywood. I just refuse to believe that none of them would be capable of making a decent Terminator movie.

Yeah... no soul, no heart.

At best, Emilia looks like she has solid Sarah Connor cosplay going on.

That guy looks nothing like Reese. Arnold looks useless, and we have a terrible T1000 wannabe. It looks like a badly written Terminator fan film. Also, Jason Clarke has zero presence as war torn John Connor.

How boring if we couldn't judge/discuss a trailer. Or anything related to a movie really. That's part of the geeky fun!!
Well, this is the most honest explanation and one that I have no problem with.:word:

As for everyone, I'm just observing a trend that point to people just complaining about anything on net. Not just about a bloody trailer but anything. To me as an old foggy, it reek of entitlement. In 1970s/80s, we just check the adverts in the newpaper on weekend and decided that this is the movie we want to go to see, pick up our dates/friends or use it as an excuse to stay out late at night. If the film was bad, we just laugh and afterward went to club or bar just to enjoy overself.

I swear that some people will get coronary from being stress out on net.:o

Flying over the Hollywood sign. Los angeles planetarium. Destruction on the Golden Gate Bridge. Random gun violence.

I have seen this movie before.

I agree the new Kyle Reese is terrible, but besides that I think people are jumping the gun.

I'm honestly puzzled why so many are hating on this trailer. It was much better than I expected. Yeah, the actors playing Sarah and Kyle aren't who I'd choose, but this is pretty good fan-service. I'm psyched it's going back to the 1984 setting.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I for one liked it and will see this. I don't expect much, but I will always see any terminator film. Old Arnold! :oldrazz:

I'm surprised Megan Ellison and her brother paid God knows how many millions for the Terminator rights, but this movie under their watch looks like the pits. It should've been better.

I'll never understand nepotism like this. The only reason Megan and David are in Hollywood is because of their CEO daddy and his billions, not through hard work. They should've bought a franchise that wasn't past its due date.

You forgot the new Sarah, a supposed trained fighter since childhood that looks like a cute nice girl. :whatever:

Is not only that, is that no one wanted a rehash of Terminator 1 & 2, is just more of the same but with worse actors and a subpar director.

Sometimes though it's not just about the talent, it's about talent who is passionate about the work. There's no person who more passionate about the original work than the original creator themselves, it's not always easy to find someone who has the same passion, maybe even impossible in some cases. Whilst I agree with you it's not impossible to find someone who can do a modern Terminator film justice I think the main issue is if the desire isn't there from the beginning then it's a hollow result. If a studio is the one pushing this franchise then the results are more likely to be something that misses the mark because it's not being created with the same intentions or for the same reason as the original.

I posted this a few pages back but nobody replied and I really want to know if there's an explanation for it yet.

So Kyle Reese ends up in a altered 1984 but how do they explain the characters looking different? I mean do we just assume that Kyle/John and Sara never looked like the original actors and Bale because of the new actors?

In 3 and Salvation they at least had the photo of Hamilton from the first movie. Wouldn't the beginning of this one be after Salvation? So how is John looking that different?

Future John looked similar enough in T1&2 and Future John from 3 was also kinda close.

Oh and does the T-1000 get a whole new body template? How did he turn Asian even in a new altered past?

I really think Kathryn Bigelow would've done something with it, she knows Cameron very well, the beauty and the ugly.

Kinda wanna see her do an action movie again. A military action movie something like The Kingdom, Green Zone, etc. but better.

I just think we have to roll with it. Emilia is Linda's Sarah Connor.

Megan jumped ship, she is not involved in this anymore.

She still bought it and has exec producer credit on the film, even though Annapurna isn't behind it anymore. She deserves it as much as David and Paramount do.

Most likely artistic license, i.e. recasting.

I guess it makes sense for her because her childhood is altered and she is girly&Innocent looking in T1 but no idea about the reast. They look and seem way too different

After watching this trailer, I feel I'll pick this up on DVD a few years from now in a bargain bin.

The chase element is back in the mix, but I hate so much of what I see in this trailer.

I could nitpick every shot in this trailer and drive myself insane. A CG endoskeleton aiming down the sights of his weapon? And that's just for starters. smh

Well, when everyone finally got a movie that actually took place in the future (Terminator Salvation) everyone *****ed about that, too. :o

Okay, so barring a couple of instances*, it looks awesome. First off, I'm very glad about that as a Terminator fan (who liked the concept of the movie from the get-go). BUT - I can't really trust in it yet, because T3 had good trailers, and T4 had one or two great trailers. And look how those turned out.

I'd love if this were a worthy successor to T2, but that's a high bar. Really good trailer.

*The couple of instances were Sarah's "Come with me if you want to live/No soldier" lines and Arnie saying the classic line (for the hundredth time) followed by Captain America'ing his way out of the chopper. Also, Clarke looking way too young and Courtney looking way too Courtney.

EDIT: Also, it was always going to seem a bit fan fictiony. I made my peace with that like a decade ago.

Overall, do I expect it to be good? No. Do I hope it's good? Yes.

By the way, the first two Terminator films were so successfull in spite of Cameron.

The first Terminator was memorable mainly because of Arnold's performance that made you feel as if he was truly a macine with his thick Austrian accent and massive muscled body movement. The fx effects like the endoskeleton rising from the flame and chasing Connor and Rees - these effects were novel in 1984. Now, it is all for people just to say "meh".:csad:

The second film was memorable because of its groundbreaking effects on the new Terminator - that actaully had my jaws dropped. Few movie will ever come close to this kind of effect and the reason why - the T-1000 effects were made as practical effects with stuffs like fibreglass, forms etc by Stan Wilson and not CGI. In today's studio environment, it is heavily CGI with very little practical effects, so effects will look different. This is why Alien and The Thing looks and feel organic, realistic compared with the later films.

Oh balls!

I set my alarm last night so I would wake up to the trailer when it was released, I sat there and watched it, rolled my eyes, slammed the laptop down and went back to sleep. Totally uninspiring

The bus!? Jai Courtney?! Flying Terminator?! Geeeeez.

The original movies have been picked apart so much that I dont understand why they dont just write a long list of what makes the original films awesome and stick to it.

Obviously it was always going to be this way. Sigh
