Terminator: Genisys - Part 6

This reeks of going in the same direction as the Die Hard franchise, watered down and neutered to appeal to a wider audience.
Good comparison. The first two Die Hard movies are good, the third is not too bad either. Then the franchise really went off the rails with the last two. They're never going to reach the T1-T2 level of quality with this franchise again. It was lightning in a bottle. A moment in time. Arnie is always fun though, so I'll still check this out.

So I read the synopsis and

By Albus Dumbledore does it sound so meh. Plus they spoiled the whole John Conner is a terminator in the trailer and THAT'S the BIG plot twist in the film! At least the Genisys subtitle's weird spelling makes sense in context.

Yep hated that too. If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

The whole film was filled with head scratching moments. That was the biggest WTF moment for me and don't get me started on that ending smh. I'll write a proper review but yeesh. And also they wasted Matt Smith. Granted, the scene where [blackout]he turns John whilst they sent Kyle back in time[/blackout] was a holy **** moment only because I didn't really see it coming.

The John Connor thing in the trailer really isn't a big twist though. That "reveal" comes 2-3 minutes after he is introduced and it happens in the first 30-40 minutes of the movie or something.

I figured that's who Matt Smith was playing. I mentioned it awhile back.

While i am not totally sold on this movie plot and casting choices, i do think i will be going to see it.:o

In general, the promotion for this has really been amped up in the past month or two.Lots of character and motion posters are on display in cinemas here.

Last week i went to my 2nd viewing of Avengers AOU at my local cineplex. Besides the trailer they twice (!) showed a brief Terminator Genisys ident spot. Basically the Utopolis (theater chain) logo melts and then transforms into the film's title logo.

Is this a shot from the movie?

Yeah honestly though I got a chuckle from that scene and the scene at the end [blackout]where Kyle and Sarah kiss and the terminator is staring at them lol[/blackout]

How can anyone honestly say that it's more T2 than T3 in tone with a straight face?

Well, in a way it basically mirrored the classic scene from T2 with Arnold trying to smile (which may have been a deleted scene, or from an extended cut, but still present). Overall I wouldn't say the movie was overly comical though. The smile was a recurring gag and the middle section had a small portion that provided a few laughs, but the main chunk of the movie is serious. It's probably a bit more comical than something like T2 (which also had those moments), but it doesn't go all out on the silly side either.

Definitely better than T3 and Salvation, but not as good as T1 or T2. It's pretty much the definition of a 3/5 movie, something you enjoy at the cinema but nothing that we will talk about 5 years from now.

In other words, pure straight mediocrity.

Would I be correct in the assumption that [blackout]the romantic angle is forced unlike the first movie which despite the short amount of time together felt natural[/blackout]?

My biggest problem with the movie is probably a weird one, but I feel like the score was just not memorable at all. I guess it doesn't help that T2 has one of the most memorable scores, and while I guess it applies to most movies these days, it just sucks when there's nothing interesting going on musically.

I dunno. I'm kind of relieved this might not suck as bad as Salvation and T3.

No one really expected this to match the first two.

If anything, this does far more damage to the brand than T3 or Salvation did. They MAJORLY screw with established canon and undo the events of the first two films.

I always thought people thought that die hard 3 was legit good while 2 was just the okay one.

Why did they make this movie in the first place? Most people already knew it was going to be terrible. I mean Alan Taylor and Jai Courtney?? Emilia Clarke following in Linda Hamilton's foot steps? Yikes.

You're implying that Alan Taylor was/is known as a hack director prior to this movie, which frankly isn't the case. He'd done some quality stuff with GoT and Thor 2 has had fairly positive reviews.

Don't drink the cool aid and base your thoughts on what you read here.

Having said that, yeah, Jai Courtney sucks and was totally miscast. Same with Emilia Clarke.

Why do you assume Voltron just doesn't think Taylor is good?

So the consensus is that this is pretty bad right? Oh well I'll see it in a couple of weeks anyway.

No surprise to hear this is bad. Those trailers looked terrible to begin with.
