Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

There's a decent story in T3, it's just poorly executed.

The tone that the director chose was just completely wrong and this extends to the cinematography. It was just too slick' and 'bright' for a Terminator movie.

Never mind the fact that it almost played like an action comedy at times.

I was thinking the same thing. The tone/look was so off it was jarring.

Another thing that bothered me was how they played the T-X almost as if she 'got off' on killing people. Like when she smiles before taking that woman's car, that 'O' face she makes after analyzing John Connors blood with her tongue, then that smirk when she kills Brewsters fiancé. just came off as weird...

Again, had you put this story through the eyes of a different director, theres probably a really good movie in there.

100% agreed. And I didn't care for the actor portraying John Connor either.

He didn't bother me too much. If anything I have more of an issue with his overall characterization. For someone who had been raised for war since birth, he came off pretty soft and seemed to have almost forgot how to be a soldier.

I understand they tried to play the angle of John being "lost" and without purpose since they seemed to have stopped judgement day but I think they made a mistake in having him lose all of the 'edge' his character had in T2.

The actor definitely wasn't the problem, Stahl actually did pretty good. But the writing for him certainly could have been better. He at least still knew how to use a gun.

I laughed when I first saw those TX reactions in the theaters, I thought she was really getting off.

There is a really good story, its called T2 which it ripped off just with mindless action that had no purpose.

But the T-X was a perfect villainess no she was especially for a female Terminator because she was basically an upgrade of the T-1000 but in a female form but at the same time though if they had brought the T-X back in Genisys then I think it would have been awesome if they had

Could you imagine Gina Carano or Ronda Rousey as the new T-X

Then who would you go with then as a T-X model? But if anything Matt Smith as the T-5000 as the human embodiment of Skynet if anything he should have been the villain all along because if he had been then I think it would have been interesting to see him have a fight scene with Arnold in Genisys

Smith signed up for 3 movies so I think if they do the whole trilogy he will be the over arching villain. He was shown as alive in the after credits scene as well.

Well of course he would have to be alive I mean he is Skynet after all well Genisys is Skynet so it would make sense and not to mention they can't stop Judgment Day because like the T-850 model Arnold said in T3 Judgment Day is inevitable

This movie is like a cockroach. You think you kill it, and then it just pops up some place else!

There's a lot of story elements in T3 that I thought were pretty good. In fact I think that had they expanded on the original premise of the mission this movie would've not only succeeded in being unique from the previous two films but actually been really good:

Make Kate Brewster the main character and make me the T-800s mission the acquisitions and protection of both her and John. I also would've suggested that they have John play a supporting role and actually not have him introduced until mid-movie.

I think by changing the focus on Kate and her trying to understand this world, it would've opened up more creative possibilities. The dynamics of her relationship with the T-800 could've been this strange hybrid of Sarah's and her niavte relationship to Reese in T1 and Johns relationship to his T-800 in T2.

Combine that with a T-X thats actually scary as oppose to creepy and again, I feel you've got something...

Granted, yes. You can argue that that is essentially a ripoff of T2 but i still think that would've been better than what we got, which was a poor attempt at a ripoff of T2.

At the end of the day, the one thing that T3 was missing and desperately needed...substance.

Well T3 wasn't really a part of of Genysis so we don't know if that was cannon, I guess he sequels will tell us. But with John dispatched at the end of the last movie, Matt Smiths character will probably be the prime villain in the next 2 movies if they happen.

I agree about substance, the movie didn't really have any until the ending, which admittedly was the best part of the movie.

Salvation if anything they got a few parts right like the future war of the machines and the humans and Kyle Reese growing up during the war they got that right and John being the resistance leader he was or was about to be since the war well the conclusion of it was in 2029 but in 2018 more or less was like the beginning of the war or the middle of the war but Helena Bonham Carter in Salvation wasn't she basically what Matt Smith was in Genisys

Agree with all your points honestly but reality is we got a made for syfy movie that had a female termintor upgrade T1000 becuase the studio had no idea what else to do. Lets face it she wasnt very menacing as a threat and never once did I believe the main leads were in any real danger nor did I buy those actors in those roles. Another thing too in T1 and T2 they built up to the first action set piece and in T3 theres just a chase scene with nothing setup besides heres an action scene.

In hine sight salvation is the most original terminator film since the 1st one in terms of new ideas and overall story even though it is boring as all F.

Which is sad because that was a ballsy way to end a summer blockbuster, shame the filmmakers didnt have those cherries for the whole film.

I really didn't care for this. I guess part of me was confused because at first I heard this was a straight up reboot....but it was pretty much a sequel/reboot.

If there's a sequel, I'll watch it, but I personally believe they should just start over in like 10-15 years.

In addition to the silly humor, T3 was obnoxiously sloppy with continuity. In T3, he states he was 13 when T2 happened when he was actually 10.

That being said, in certain respects, I feel T3 is more the true sequel to T2 than TG if only from a narrative standpoint.

I also firmly believe that people are wrong when they say T2 diverts from the path set by the T1 time loop and T3 is about course correction. I believe T2 is its own time loop within T1 just like T3 is a time loop within T2, for the very basic and fundamental reason that these elements from the future have a significant impact on the past.

I can't love T3 at all, especially the characterization of John Connor. It's the odd character progression between T2 and T3. In T2, we have a bright young boy who's quick to make decisions and is able to stand on his own two feet for the most part. From the information T2 gives us, we have a John Connor who, at the age of 10, is able to be prepared for a nuclear war.

And then in T3, John's still hanging around Los Angeles armed with a paintball gun. For whatever reason, he can't distinguish between human and dog medication, and he's easily disarmed by a veterinarian. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me to see John Connor go from competent to clumsy. Especially after living a huge chunk of his life learning how to survive, lead, and fight in an apocalypse.

That couldn't be further from the truth. In T2, we have a juvenile delinquent with no direction who's in no position to see anything coming.

As far as the dog medication, I think he knew was kind of medication it was. The vet was just pulling a bluff on him due to his intoxication.

I wouldn't mind a sequel so long as they have something interesting to say. If not, just leave the franchise as is.

I guess its a testament to how great the first two films were that even after three terrible sequels fans are still okay with another one.
