I say let Cameron tell another Terminator story, set in his original universe that he created.

Some where, there must have been another story to tell.

He's too busy with endless Avatar sequels.

He has already told everything he wanted to tell, which is why he didn't return for T-3.

Have to disagree, most summer blockbusters would never have the balls to end on such a downer.

The whole point of T2 and T3 was trying to prevent skynet and the world being destroyed. By the end they realized they couldn't stop it and had to let it happen. The only major film that had a downer ending was "The Mist" and that ending was ballsy too.

LOTSA BALLS BEING DISPLAYED HERE, FOLKS.

Destroying the world and killing the majority of the human race at the end of a summer blockbuster isn't ballsy?

Considering its a Terminator movie its kind of expected, plus we already know that humans end up winning the war anyway. I think the whole movie was more balls than ballsy :P

Just let this franchise die already. At this point, it's an old ass dog that can't walk, will have every bone in its body broken if you touch it, and needs to be put down. Seriously, why doesn't Cameron use the billions he made off of Titanic and Avatar to buy the rights back?

Not until I get my ending of Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Cameron finished the story he wanted to tell back in 1992 and probably doesn't have any interest in revisiting Terminator.

Just let it die already. It should have been left alone after T2.

Because he has no reason to? He told his story. Why should he waste his money on a franchise he's done with?

It's not really expected though is it. The whole of T2 and T3 where them trying to stop judgement day, the previous movies never actually went through with the world ending, only the aftermath. For me it was bllsy for a summer blockbuster to end with the end of the world.

"The Terminator Franchise Will Return After Some "re-adjusting".

Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Goldberg recently discussed the future of Terminator at TheWrap’s 6th Annual Media Leadership Conference; she admitted that TERMINATOR: GENISYS's domestic box-office was less than ideal (the film grossed almost $90 million in the U.S.) but denied that the franchise was being put on hold saying,

"I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting."

However TERMINATOR: GENISYS performed much better in the rest of the world, taking in $350 million, which has kept Terminator's lifeboat afloat.

"Happily, we live in the world where the domestic number [doesn't have the] level of importance [it did] 10 or 15 years ago — I’m not saying it’s not important, it is — but we have to play to a worldwide market, in terms of ‘Terminator,’ the worldwide market paid attention, but we’re not taking the domestic number lightly."

Thankfully Dana Goldberg and Skydance won't just take that overseas box-office as a win, but will instead take a look at what went wrong with TERMINATOR: GENISYS and find out what fans really want in a sequel. Goldberg said that the company will use

"data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn’t work for them, so that the next step we take with the franchise is the right one.”

I'll save you time.
Loved: Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Didn't work: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator: Salvation, Terminator: Genisys

Next step: Just stop now before they get worse.

Skydance has no business making these films. They're financiers, they're not artists.

That's went went wrong with Genisys. You had a billionaire who bought the rights and who's only experience was financing films for Paramount but had no creative experience and made all the key creative decisions on this film. He didn't listen to anyone else.

The fact that they want to do polls and audience focus groups to find out what the next step should be shows exactly not only how they have no idea what to do next but also how they view this, as a product, not a creative endeavour.

Either way, Goldberg confirmed they're not shooting next year as originally planned. They can't afford to wait. The copyright expires soon and then they lose the rights for good. The clocks ticking...

Yes they won't be making the scheduled 2017 release date or have time to produce two more sequels.

This also doesn't contradict the earlier reports from Deadline or Hollywood Reporter. Both said no movement would be happening on a sequel anytime soon.

Won't surprise me if they decide the "next step" should be the tv series, similar to what just happened with the Jack Ryan franchise.

Yeah, see what happens, surprised they are being so negative with the home release just around the corner though.

This is not a problem you can re-adjust by focus grouping, data research and doing studies with.

Who admits to the public that they will do a worldwide study for movies? Idiots :loco:

research has already been made and fact is that the general public likes simple plots. not like Genisys.

Focus Group- I think the terminator should be a transgender muslim with two kids

WB- Done

Focus Group member #2 - I don't like the voice.

WB- We.Can.Fix.It

Yeah, see what happens, surprised they are being so negative with the home release just around the corner though.

Sounds like this was Goldberg's attempt at trying to be positive.

But yeah it's odd they aren't putting a better spin on things for the home release.

Remember when James Cameron came up with the idea of Terminator after doing a focus group and market testing? Me neither, cause he actually had a story to tell and these idiots don't.
